Summer's here and I'm hot and muggy: a topical MMP

Home. And I’ve decided to take the rest of the week off. I have nothing to do at work, and my boss won’t have anything for me for the next 2 days. So I shall work in the yard and run errands and generally enjoy myself.

Having met **snowbunny **and some of her family, I can attest to their wierdness. Niceness, too, so it works out.

I’m not a fan of coconut, but I’d use rice krispies in my rocks. Maybe raisins, too. hmmmmmm, maybe one of my errands will be to the grocery store.

I’m glad none of my coworkers know about this place or my username. 'nuff said.

Gotta go pick up my van. We’re going out to supper tonight after daughter meets with her lawyer. I’m a bit pissed at her - she left all her papers at home, so she has to stop her enroute. Her appointment is in 15 minutes, and the office is 15 minutes away. And she’s not here yet. For a smart person, she’s pretty dumb…
OK, while I was re-reading, she came, grabbed her papers, and now she’s gone.

For Cinco, a small gaggle of us piled into cars and drove off to the nearest Mexican restaurant. The place was infested with mariachis. Not that the musicians were bad, but they were ear-shatteringly loud in a small space. Decent food, at least, even if they had no idea what “no cilantro” means.

We celebrated Cinco de Mayo by having dinner at DB McMillan’s Pub!

Tomorrow, I’m taking the soon-to-be-ex to the lawyer to sign some papers. Then I’ll take him over to the college so he can sell back his text books. Then I’m running to Lowe’s to get a couple of hose nozzles - I have no idea where ours disappeared to. I think I’ll get a soaker hose for my hedge, too.

Do I know how to have a day off or what??

We cinco’d our mayo today. I am a stuffed piñata.

I knew that you were a college prof–I was just making snark. I didn’t know where and certainly had long forgotten it was for Bio, but I got the **Ivory Tower **reference. My mama raised me right! :stuck_out_tongue: But you don’t really complain about your students all that much. You must put your back into in future. More drama!
If Shanklin is the name of the building, which Shanklin was it named after? Or did they misspell Franklin (as in Benjamin)? Just kidding!

I am home from a crazy day at the library. Usually I have the mildly pleasant sensation of being able to cross off at least half of the list I generate on my previous day of work. I didn’t even cross off ONE item today. Lots of brush fires and stupid stuff. But I am Zen. Of course, tomorrow I enter a circle of Hell [sup]TM[/sup], but we all know I’m an RN tomorrow…
This weekend #2 son turns 12. Ack!

Wait–WHAT? FCM, your daughter is getting a divorce? did I miss something major?

I’m sure they are. <scribbling furiously>. Are the peanuts salted or unsalted? I would think salted, but defer to your expertise. Spill!

And now I crave choc covered peanuts. Hmmph!

**rigs **- while I was in FL, she and he had a conversation that resulted in him leaving. She told me she’d been unhappy for some time, and with their anniversary facing her (it was yesterday) she just couldn’t continue the marriage. He had no idea it was coming, but he agreed to let her have a divorce. They’ve divided their stuff and their finances. He’s been staying with a friend and I understand that next week, he’s renting a truck and driving back to his mother’s place in Orlando. And since he no longer has wheels (he’d been driving my van for the last 2 years) I’m going to pick him up and take him to the lawyer’s. Plus I’m going to take him back to the college so he can sell his textbooks and have a little more pocket money.

So one year from April 24, the marriage will be dissolved. Daughter is very happy. Future ex is very hurt. **FCD **and I kinda knew it would come to this, although we were both caught off-guard by the timing.

And life goes on…

I have mowed da yahd, showered, laundered sheets and towels, put clean sheets on the bed and am now enjoyin’ a Corona with lime. I deserve it.

That is all.

Well, the bad news is that I’m having my nightly anxiety attack. The good news is that I’m in TVLand!!!

::Sends anti-anxiety vibes in the general direction of NE Ohio::

Am planted out. Went to 3 different nurseries today and also put a couple of plants in the ground and planted one container. Found a really cool dahlia in the Dark Angel series; it’s called Dracula and has really dark leaves - very close to black - and dark red blossoms. I’m surrounding it with light-colored plants and flowers so that it doesn’t go all invisible.

I’ve read, but retained nothing because I’m exhausted.

Practically off to bed.

Hugs to all.

I Cinco de Mayoed at a pizza place.

: beams calm waves at Sticky :

Ummm… I usually get dry roasted peanuts, which I think are very lightly salted.
I’m trying to be good and work on homework, but I really don’t want to. But I don’t get to go to bed until I finish this project. Unless I fall asleep in my chair. I’ve got a floor meeting in about ten minutes. I’ll probably have some tea afterwards because I’m getting sleepy and I’ve had a mildly upset stomach most of the day (stress and too much sugar / poor diet, I’m sure)

GT - That sounds really pretty! Can we get pictures at some point?

That was not an attempt at ID. Shanklin 107 apparently has air conditioning.

We bought a new bed yesterday - an expensive one that doesn’t sag when you sit down, or poke you in the side when you roll over. My lordy, it is great to sleep on!

Yay for new beds!

I spent yesterday morning doing exam invigilation which was quite good - the students had 2.5hrs to do 60 multiple-choice questions so I got to spend a couple of hours reading a very good book. This morning, I have up to 3hrs of invigilation with one single student. He’s dyslexic so he gets extra time for his exam and gets to do it on a computer, in a room by himself. That’ll be more time with a good book for them, then.

Nothing much else going on here today, 'im indoors seems to be coping ok with things after the funeral but yesterday was his first day completely on his own since his father passed away. He has been keeping relatively busy so that’s probably a good thing.

Yesterday we went to feed the animals at our friends’ place while they’re on holiday. They have a cat and four ferrets. The cat is no bother, he has an automated 5-portion feeder that just needs to be refilled. The ferrets need food, water and fuss. They also apparently need white chocolate buttons and Nutella in order to function properly.

Aw, man, I need to get a new bed. We’ve got a king size and it’s about 13 years old and been thru 2 moves. It’s definitely dying. The problem is, I have no idea what to replace it with. We got a couple of queen mattresses 2 years ago - one for the guest room and one for the kids - and both developed body divots within a few months. So I know not to buy that brand. But I don’t know what I should get.

Plus **FCD **and I have different preferences for firmness, but we are agreed that we don’t want that adjustable air mattress thing - the sleep number. And as far as I’m concerned, you can’t buy a mattress based on lying on the store model for 12 seconds. Now, give me half an hour, a pile of pillows, and a TV and maybe I can tell if it’ll be comfy enough. GAH! Yet another thing I hate to shop for…

Oh yeah - I’m up. **FCD **is still abed - he had a bad night. I’ve taken the idiot dogs out - twice - and now I’m caffeinating. Since future-ex will be calling about going to the lawyer, I really can’t do any grubby outside work right away, so I’m going to clean the guest room closet, make some banana muffins, and maybe start some laundry? I don’t know. Something constructive, I guess.

Happy Thursday!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffienatin’. Also waitin’ on the bug man. He’s supposed to be here at eight.

In other news, it looks like the salt level in the pool is finally where it’s supposed to be. Mayhaps I shall make use of it and mositurize my skin. I now have a reason to make the most of pool time. One must moisturize after all.

Yays, boos, hugs, gropes, wedgies, noogies, kisses, how you doin’s. Distribute as needed.

Speaking of idiot dogs, I have no idea what got into my pug but she was up and down most of the night. I gave up and went to the couch pretty early in the game but did not sleep well at all. Particularly because this kaff is at the “HURTS!!!” stage. :frowning:

I came to work even though I would rather be home in bed but new job and all…

Hugs all around and some ommmmmmmmmmm for sticks.

Tupug

Blurf.

In a funk. My givadammer is malfunctioning, and threatening to fail altogether.

In more exciting news, and something bound to beat back the funk at least temporarily, I have bambilance duty tomorrow night, and it’s the Cottonfield County Rodeo. We always have the Greatest Spectacle in Redneck Weirdness coupled with a calamitous incident (usually an off-site car wreck), and seasoned with thunderstorms on at least one of the nights to ensure everyone goes home good and muddy. It’s a good time, for all the wrong reasons.

I’m jealous. My mower wouldn’t start & is in the shop (they say its because I left gas in her over the winter w/o stabil, and they may be right). Of course they are more than willing to rent me a unit at $15 @ 2 hours until its repaired. I booked one for Saturday and until then will have the ugliest lawn in the tri-state area.

Still no idea when I’ll have my mower back. :frowning:
