Quadruple WORD, Mirror. I cringe and pray for his death every time he or his terrible insidious accent appear. But I admit he is certainly playing the game well.
In Marquesas, Boston Rob never really had a chance. His original tribe had a strong majority alliance which he wasn’t in and when it was finally defeated, he was switched. While with the new tribe, it was obvious that he was going to be voted out so he did nothing. He even told them, “Since you’re going to vote us out, I don’t see any reason to do anything” or words to that affect. I thought that was one of the few times that someone on Survivor who knew they were going home was smart about it. Now he has a chance so he is playing the game.
I think my CBS affiliate did some editing of its own. We didn’t get the warning screen and I don’t recall any unneccesary bumping and grinding on the beams. Just Jeff saying “Knock it off.”
And leave my future wife (Shii Ann) alone.
I can not stand Boston Rob. He is so stuck on himself. He thinks he is the only one who is capable to doing anything.
I forgot to mention Rupert and his building skills. Man, good thing he works with trouble teens and isn’t a structural engineer. While Rupert was shown as the center of his tribe in Panama, this time he seems nothing more than a drag on them. His whining about how he was building houses for 20 years turned into a disaster. From that he designs a raft which helps the tribe get dissolved. From tht point on if Rupert were in my tribe and a building challenge came up, I’d have to tell him to sit it out.
Actually, I think building a losing raft is the best thing Rupert’s done this season. (a) We hopefully shouldn’t see so much of Ethan and Jenna’s passive-aggressive behaviour towards him, (b) next episode won’t be yet another slanging match between Jerri and Rupert, and the big © imagine if Mogo Mogo or Chapera had to leave their decent shelters and rice and had to go live on pauper beach with Saboga. The food situation and living conditions would be terrible.
It’s not like it’s even doomed all of his tribe. Ethan and Jerri both seem surprisingly safe at Mogo Mogo now, and Rupert’s fishing skills may help him in at Chapera. The only one who may be in a little trouble is Jenna, and with Sue having her little hissy-fit on the next episode, Jenna still may not be the first head on the chopping block.
But yeah, in future Rupert should only be a pair of hands when it comes to building. I imagine that the rest of the tribe would choose to go with Rob’s decisions when it comes to building things anyway.
As a Survivor junkie who missed the first one, it’s been a pleasure to watch Richard play. Now I see how he won the first time. I’ll miss him on the show and he certainly was a stud when it came to fishing.
I love Rupert, but damn he’s played a bad game this time. He’s bludered on the raft and the shelter and where in Pearl Islands he had everyone eating out of his hand, this time around he’s coming across as a mediocre player. I’m hoping, though, that Burnett is cleverly editing the show to make Rupert appear to be struggling and in reality he gets far in the game.
I think letting Colby stay was a mistake. He definitely needs to go before the merge or he may go on another huge immunity winning streak. I can stand him, though, and am sick of him acting like some great mastermind. This is the imbecil who gave away a million dollars because he was so spiteful to see Keith Famie win the $100k runner up money.
A little late to comment on this, but I hadn’t posted since the show started: I was thrilled that Tina Wesson had to suffer the embarrassment of being the first one voted off! I couldn’t stand seeing her on E! commenting on the actions of other survivors and criticizing their strategies like she was some brilliant puppet master. Her “strategy” was piggybacking on someone stupid and spiteful and cruising to the million.
Boston Rob is completely different this time. Still a major asshole (calling Ethan “pretty boy” during a challenge), but he’s been the franchise player on his tribe and is pretty much calling the shots (which I thought Alicia would never allow). Rob C., on the other hand, played very poorly. He wasn’t nearly as amusing and behaved like a lazy wuss the whole time he was there. He might as well have stayed home.
That should’ve said “He’s blundered on the raft”
That should’ve said “I can’t stand him” and “he was too spiteful to see Keith Famie win”.
:smack: How I wish I could edit my posts!
I totally agree with the Rob M hate. Hate, hate, hate him. He’s being edited to seem so darn perfect at everything. Except fishing. Maybe next week he’ll catch a 300 lb grouper or something. What I hope is, that all this perfect at everything-ness will make him a big target. Unfortunately, he seems to be the only alpha male type on his tribe and they may keep him around for challenges. Bleh. Maybe he’ll tease Rupert and trigger those little fat kid memories from last season and Rupert will arrange his downfall.
Man, there has been a lot of board traffic about the Hatch/Sue grinding incident. I’m just re-watching it now. My take is that Sue wanted the beam that Richard was using so she waited. She was also yelling things at Richard while he was making his way towards her. When he got to the intersection Sue was standing on, she wouldn’t move out of his way so he raised his arms up in the air and made a little show of “innocently” having to squeeze past her. Sue really didn’t leave him much choice about not brushing up against her, there was room on the platform for her get out of his way. I think what Rich may have been thinking was, “you want some of this honey, here ya go.” Probably not the most politically correct way to play that, but Rich & Sue are so not PC with each other.
Although it wasn’t shown, apparently Rich had every intention of keeping his shorts on during this challenge, but his tribemates encouraged him to get nekkid in order to intimidate the other tribe. It was probably a good strategy, I don’t think anyone wanted to go Greco-Roman with a naked Hatch, except Sue apparently.
I read somewhere but haven’t checked yet, but I guess on the CBS website it says Sue’s tirade next week is about the Hatch thing. Maybe it’s just one of those things that the more you think about it, the more pissed off you feel you should be, and maybe Jeff treats the incident with less sensitivity then Sue thinks he should.
I like Sue so I’m going to wait and see what she has to say before I start thinking those brain parasites are kicking in.
In other news, doesn’t Kathy just totally rock? Is it just me? I would be totally ok with a Kathy win.
I’m a huge Kathy fan. I loved her the first time, and I’m loving her now. I would love to see her make the final three.
I’d love for Rupert to win, but if he doesn’t, then Kathy. She got screwed big time by Vecepia and Neleah in Marquesas and deserved to win more than the two of them together.
I want Boston Rob to win. I hated him in S4, but he’s playing a much better game this time around.
During the Panama reunion, Sean said the shows had been edited to make Rupert look like a better person than he really is. From Jeff’s comments, it appeared that Sean was bitter that the shows had been edited to make Rupert look better while showing mostly negative things for the other players. Sean said that many of Rupert’s outbursts had not been shown. After watching this season, I believe him. Since being voted off in Panama, Rupert has shown himself to be a petty, whining person.
During the shelter building contest, he wouldn’t even bother letting his tribe mates finish what they were saying. Instead he talked right over them about how he had been building houses for 20 years. I got the feeling during the raft challenge that his tribe mates didn’t even want to bother to ague with him.
I was pulling for him to win in Panama until that “So much for my dream” speech. His comments about feeling like the fat kid make more sense now. He’s not the little fat kid being picked on, he’s the little fat kid who throws a tantrum when he doesn’t get what he wants. “I want a candy bar!!! WAH!!!”
I like Boston Rob. I did before, and I do this time. As a Meloncholy, I have a rather strange fondness for Sanguine temperaments.
Boston Rob was sort of a jackass in his earlier appearance in the Survivor Series. This time around he’s really playing the game and controlling a lot of the aspects in his tribe. From alliances to being an irreplaceable challenge threat, he’s really playing this game well. This might screw him over soon, but I think he’s got enough game to manipulate people to keep him on longer than we would expect of the loud-mouth Bostonian that he is.
Something I really love so far is the interaction between Sue and Big Tom. They secretly abhor each other, as the testimonials portray, but when they’re together they put an evil facade that makes them kinda chummy. I love seeing the two-facedness of them… Someone is going to break down and let their true feelings out, and i’m betting it’s Sue.
Count me in on that!
I was also glad to see Hatch booted. He was just annoying. Contrast that with Colby or Ethan. Those guys are smart and easy-going. It might be a good stragey towards the end of the game to be seen as obnoxious, but not on day 1.
But this was a great episode, and the series is turning out to be the best yet.
I too missed out on Richard in season 1. I was sorry to see him go. I found him amusing and entertaining at every turn. Like previous posters, the things that I loved about him may have been the same thing that caused others to hate him. Oh well. Perhaps someone similar to him will come along in future games.
I liked Rob M at the beginning, but his attitude is really starting to get on my nerves. Way too cock-sure of himself, and for no reason at this point. He’s not controlling the game at this point because they’ve only had to go to tribal council once. Ousting Rob C. was really not that difficult. No one wanted him around because of his reputation from the Amazon (check the Insider – they all were too scared of his gameplay to trust leaving him around). And Rob M.'s vote was pure jealousy. Scuttlebutt long has been that he’s never been happy that Rob C. was touted as Robfather Part II, and his voting booth confessional was that there was only room for one Rob on the island. Personally, I think Mariano will be in a much different situation once the merge rolls around. I don’t think we’ll see any Pagonging this season, because there aren’t going to be any tribe loyalties. Rob has Amber in his pocket, and probably Alicia, but I can see Tom jumping ship in a heartbeat.
As far as the Richard/Sue thing, there is definitely more to it than we saw. If you go back and look, the editing is choppy. Not sure if this completely qualifies, but just to be on the safe side, I’ll spoiler tag it. It was in a speculation forum, not a spoiler forum, and it doesn’t discuss any outcome of the game, but it does mention what might happen next week that I haven’t seen on the previews, but then again, I don’t watch TV during the week! According to a poster at survivorsucks regarding the pants off incident:
Wezzie

About the Rich issue, from what I’ve heard, Rich pulls that act all the time. It’s his sense of humor… or intimidation, to be more accurate. He did it more than once and on different people during his time on the island and during the challenge. Apparently, a lot more happened that CBS didn’t show, including the fact that the tribes were yelling at Jeff to make Rich put his pants back on. Watch for the contestants to side with Sue next week… and for Probst to get criticized openly and forcefully by his best buddy Colby.
