Duh. The above should have read "given Lex’s stated desire to get rid of Richard.
Thanks. I truly was confused by that.
Here’s the way I look at it: Kathy made the smart play. She firms up her place in the alliance with the “BIG THREE”. She will no doubt rat Jerri out to the point Jerri and Shiiann get no credit for their ultimate vote. If she had voted to oust Colby (and I was hoping for it), the Richard Alliance would have had to follow with Lex and Ethan.
Without the big three, what chances would Mogo Mogo have to win IC’s and go into the merge dominant? Boston Rob, it seems, can beat them single handed WITH the Big three!
With them, she is the last of their non-three to get the boot if they are able to dominate the merge. Heck she may even convince one of them she isn’t a threat and get in the final two. At that point, Colby may confuse her for his mama and give her a million dollars.
Smart move for KATHY. The whole alliance with the big three is smart. Let’s get rid of the weak links and then duke it out in the final three IC’s!
Don’t underestimate Rich, he was doing pretty good on the challenges and was a real threat to everyone there. The time to get rid of Rich is the first chance you get- he is too much of a threat player wise. That was his major blunder- he waited too long to make a strong alliance- so nobody really thought they could trust him. I also agree that you do not want Rich around when the merge comes, and as the players learned that day- it could happen at any time.
As far as one vote goes this early- no big deal. As we have seen voting blocks can shift rapidly. Plus look deeper at what really happened. I would not want to allied myself with Jerri or Shi-Ann (especially Shii Ann) they are losers. Kathy made the right move, as everyone will now be courting her, plus she now has two pieces of deadwood between her and any I.C. By the time those two losers are gone- a merge should have happened, and she will be safe for quite a while. If they have numbers, she could go a long time. If she doesn’t- she will be the last member of that tribe booted, with all of the chances in the world to strike deals along the way. Just like the last time she played- she is playing the exact same game again. It was the smart move for Kathy. She could go far.
I’m out ten bucks since Richard was voted off, but I think he went out with a lot of class and good humor.
At the last Reunion Show, Rupert said he was glad he could “beat Richard”; so it sounded as if Rupert would be around longer than Hatch. Hatch’s exit was good, but it looked to me as if he was making a brave face and that he would fall apart once he was off-camera. Just my impression.
Due to circumstances ranging from timing conflicts to forgetfulness, this was the first All Star episode I watched. Bummer.
Okay, I have a question about the Richard/Susan thing. I didn’t see exactly what happened. Sue waited for Richard so that she could confront him in some way. What did Richard do? And what about the meltdown next week? If that’s what it’s about, then does Sue have a complaint coming since she appeared to instigate it?
Colby, Ethan, and especially Lex are all far bigger long-term strategic threats than Richard. Not only are they good at challenges, but they appear to be forming a power bloc, if not an actual alliance. But as elf6c points out, Shi Ann and Kathy aren’t thinking long term–they’re just trying to hang on till the merge.
Lex was by far the biggest winner at Mogo Mogo last night. Not only did he get rid of what he perceived as his biggest threat, but he picked up his old pal Ethan – while claiming to his teammates he only wanted to keep Ethan close so they could vote him off! Yeah right. But Shi Anne and Kathy appear to be buying it, even if Rich didn’t.
Well, what I saw was this: Richard was on the beam Susan wanted to take back to her tribe platform, so she said something to the effect of “I’m gonna wait for him, I want that one.” Richard decided to play fat-naked-guy-bum-and-grind with her. She didn’t instigate, but after the challenge, she seemed to not give much of a damn. Her tribe talked about it being inappropriate, but she didn’t seem upset to the extent that makes a meltdown imminent, or even probable.
You can watch the entire challenge at CBS Survivor Insider (it’s episode 5, chapter 6). It appeared to me that Sue started heading down one plank, thought better of it because it was either narrower or a longer way around than the adjacent plank and changed course. The comment she made was, “I want to take my time,” which doesn’t indicate at all that she was gunning for a confrontation. But even if she had been (that was part of the object of this challenge, afterall)… there’s never, ever, ever any excuse for a man to sexually assault a woman, even in the context of a game and even if she stood right in front of him and dared him to rub himself against her – which is what Richard did – twice (notice that even after she had passed him, he turned around and rubbed himself against her back). He’s a disgusting pig.
Was it just me or did the events between the IC and the TC seem to be edited for a more dramatic effect? The resulting vote, everyone for Richard, seemed counter to the order of events as presented in the time before TC. I recall it something like this:
[ul]
[li]Colby and Lex convince remaining group that they are going to dupe Richard into thinking they are all voting for Ethan.[/li][li]Jerri & Other Girl think Colby is a bigger threat and tip off Richard to the plan.[/li][li]Richard, Jerri, etc., decide they are going to turn the tables and vote out Colby.[/li][li]Older Lady, who would seem to be the deciding vote between Colby or Richard, remains undecided going into TC.[/li][/ul]
(Sorry, I cannot recall everyone’s name - I am a bit of a Survivor novice)
This does not jive with a unanimous (except Richard’s vote for Colby) decision against Richard. I would think, if the events were as they presented them that there would be a split vote with the deciding vote going against Richard.
Just makes me curious, maybe there is another explaination I am missing.
MeanJoe, most likely scenario: Katherine tells the other two she decided to vote for Richard. Not wanting to expose themselves as plotting against Colby, they also vote for Richard. Editing is a beauty eh?
True 'dat, I can see that as the most likely scenario and I can see why they’d edit out such an exchange as the way it was broadcast kept me on the edge of my seat wondering it it’d be Richard or Colby.
That being said, I really hate to see Richard go. He had me laughing the last few weeks really hard - I loved that guy for probably the same reason everyone tends to dislike him so much.
MeanJoe
Okay this other option is probably unlikely, but I’ll throw it out there anyway.
Couldn’t the scenario of trying to vote off Colby just been a ploy to trick Rich? Rich is too smart. He would’ve caught on that he was the target. By playing to his arrogant belief that he’s the best player there, they could’ve tricked him into believing he was turning the tables on Colby. I think Jerri’s perceived grudge against Colby made a plausible excuse to take to Rich and he bought it hook, line, and sinker.
Since Rich was the original Survivor (and he’s so smug), it would please me if they played with him before voting him off.
Let me add to the chorus who was surprised that Rich made a graceful exit speech. I was surprised that he did that to Sue, I agree that before reading this I thought she wanted to confront him – maybe he did too?
Can someone with a better memory than me remind me of the historical Jerri-Colby interaction? How accurate is Jerri’s memory that he was paraphrasing: the guy who screwed her over once?
Jerri and Colby were on the same tribe. They were sort of in an alliance together, but he went against her by voting off Mitchell (a weak player also in their alliance) instead of Keith (a stronger but unlikeable player).
When the tribes merged, their tribe starting picking off the other tribe. At one of the Reward challenges, Jerri and Colby were partnered together. I believe it was an obstacle course and he dropped her off a climbing wall (she fell on her head) and pretty much manhandled through the whole challenge. They won to reward to visit the coral reefs. They made an agreement to just enjoy the trip and not talk or think about the game. When they returned, he surprised her by bringing back gifts for the losers left at camp. That won him some serious brownie points and because she threw a snit prior to the game (it was about how they picked partners), she looked even worse. Because their tribe had a two person lead over the other tribe, they all voted off Jerri at the next tribal council.
That about sums it up except for her crushing on Colby, her fantasies about pouring chocolate syrup on a guy and licking it off while having sex, and Colby saying he wasn’t anyone’s (Jerri) chocolate chip cookie or dessert.
It’s hard to overstate what a graceless bitch Jerri was in Australia, but she seems to have really changed (or at least changed her strategy) this time. I’m liking her a lot this time around, especially compared to some of the other players coughShii-Anncough. Plus, she looked absolutely smoking in that bikini last night. Yikes.
I was also impressed with Hatch’s graceful exit and all around good sportsmanship when he was voted out. The grinding at IC was reprehensible, but he really took being voted out about as cheerfully as anyone I"ve ever seen.
I’m surprised to see how much of a pass Rich is getting on the rubbing thing. I do believe there would be more disgust expressed if it had been drunken Tom rather than charming Rich.
If he had done that to me, I would have grabbed his little piglet and squeezed.
" I do believe there would be more disgust expressed if it had been drunken Tom rather than charming Rich."
I think there would have been much more disgust if it had been heterosexual Tom rather than gay Rich. Clearly with Rich it was just a game tactic, but with Tom …
I think the one thing everyone can agree on it’s the overall lack of charm Rich displayed this season. Season one, yeah. This time around he was just a jerk… he even commented in his post-boot interview that he felt he had to be a jerk or people would be suspicious. So I doubt charm would be the reason people are giving him a pass. I think the homosexual thing has more to do with it, plus something of the following:
I saw the whole exchange totally differently… Sue had a completely open shot on another beam, but decided when she saw Rich coming that she “wanted that one.” (I’m assuming that she meant the beam he was on.) Other than to mess with Rich and possibly push him in on her way past, there was no reason to pull something like that. Due to the space, they had no choice but to slide past each other with a goodly bit of body contact, but it really looked like she was giving as good as she got (until the end when he rubbed against her back). Add in the fact that she had already made several unnecessary comments to him in prior challenges AND was getting in a few shots during this one, and I really think it was a quid-pro-quo situation. Sue spent 30+ days in a close alliance with a naked Rich before; it’s not like he was doing the bump-n-grind with someone he didn’t have a history with. I guess we’ll see what happens next week.
Did they come to the island hating each other or something? What’s the story there?
The first thing I thought when he stripped was “THAT was stupid- all that thing is is a handle.” Icky or not, it would’ve been the first thing I reached for if I was forced into a “battle” with him.
Oh… the women were stupid as hell. They never should’ve gotten rid of Rich over Cowlby.
Does anyone else hate Boston Rob with the burning passion of a thousand firey suns?
'Cuz I sure do. He needs to go, the smarmy son of a bitch.
I hated him last time around, too.
