Surprising. I would have thought Ozzie was a lock (on the theory that he had earned it by winning so many challenges).
It was kind of interesting, just because after all the discussion (off the island) of the idea of a final three, we ended up with a final 3 which had 2 giants and a coat-tail rider. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, but I would probably have been upset with anyone who wimped out on choosing between the giants by picking Beckie.
I don’t dislike Beckie, I just didn’t think she deserved votes the way that the two guys did.
I wonder if they just didn’t bother to ask Becky many questions or if they were edited out. Because I think Becky got TWO questions the entire Final TC.
Sundra looks great!
Jonathan looks like a dork.
I will have something relevant to say in the morning, when I’ve had some time to sleep off this three-day bender (I love holiday parties, but I hate holiday hangovers), but in the meantime:
[ul]
[li]I can no longer say that my favorite contestant in any season has finished “no higher than 3rd.” Yay for me![/li][li]Ozzy looked waaaaaaay better when he was all skinny and scruffy and pants-falling-down on the island – now he looks like an extra on a cut-rate telenovela (although I do love that sweater).[/li][li]I actually feel a little bad for Becky, but only a little – she didn’t really have a chance up against those two, and it’s not like she could ask Yul what to tell the jury.[/li][li]Jonathan is kind of a fathead – I don’t think he’s entirely wrong about Ozzy being arrogant and slightly entitled, but jefe worked his ass off. He might be young, but since when is that a reason not to vote for someone? I’m a little disappointed that Jonathan went all blah-blah-bittercakes on us.[/li][/ul]
I think I’m pretty satisfied with this outcome, honestly. Adam might think this cast was boring, but I disagreed. It’s rather reassuring when someone comes up with a plan on Day One, puts the necessary pieces in place, and sticks to the plan all the way through … and this season we had two people who did that. Three, if you count Becky, but I want to give Yul all the credit, because I believe he deserves it.
If anybody says anything good in the Reunion, please post. I need sleep. Also, when we find out who voted for whom, put that in here, too.
I think there must have been editing going on with the larger than usual jury and the larger than usual final competitors. It seemed that some of the jury members were only asking questions of ONE of the finalists, and I find that hard to believe.
Sorry, just saw this. I am so jaded after so many seasons that I am no longer surprised by how Survivor Juries vote – the question of “who deserves to win?” hardly ever figures into anything. However, I will say that I am relieved that Becky didn’t sneak in there and win the spite vote. Ozzy was totally an Immunity Monster, but what is the saying? “Youth and strength are always overcome by age and wisdom” or something like that? Although I do kind of think it’s sort of a bummer that Yul is probably going to waste his million on something stupid like the underprivileged or something, instead of a kegger.
So, the car curse continues in a backwards kinda way.
Heh, yeah, and Ozzy will still get runner-up money, which I think is about 100 grand, so he can go back to college.
Poor Cao Boi was never allowed to finish his joke: “What do you call a Vietnamese guy with three dogs?” I’ve heard the punchline, sad to say: “A rancher!”
YMMV, but it was great to see how he tried to get the young Asian people to stop taking themselves soooo seriously.

In response to a previous thread - Sundra cleans up real nice!

I wonder how Candise voted after her challenge
#) IMO, Ozzie is the best Survivor player ever. The jury was lame.
Yul is great and I give him his props. However, I can’t understand why Ozzy wasn’t a runaway favorite. The politicking Yul did when folks got tossed must have been quite significant.
Anybody else amazed by who looks worse cleaned up? Rebecca, Sundra, Parvarti, Jonathan, and Ozzy all looked better in the sticks!
Yul looked great, though. I totally think he could run for public office if he wanted.
Hilarious to hear Seiku (sp?) do a song about Survivor, even after getting tossed on the first day!
Yul deserved to win over Ozzy largely because of his brilliant strategic move in getting Jonathan to flip back over and vote with the Aitus after the merge. If not for that moment, Yul’s Aitu foursome (including Ozzy) would likely have been picked off one by one.
Oh, and Adam? You are the classic dumb jock. You complained that these other contestants were so “boring.” Those are some sour grapes, man. I guess you must consider superb strategizing and skillful challenge play to be boring. It’s much more interesting to watch you and Candice make googly eyes at each other while you sit on your ass and make stupid decision after stupid decision. What the hell was interesting or exciting about you? When did you ever make any big plays in the game? What did you ever do that changed the balance of power? Absolutely nothing. Adam, you were one of the most boring players ever!
I thought the same thing.
I always thought Becky was cute on the island, but at the reunion she looked HOT! Yul needs to take that friendship to the next level.
If they showed us how the final vote broke down, I didn’t see it. Does anybody know?
I totally called it too. I told my roommate, “just watch, this is gonna take two hours.” Then it pretty much did. Hilarious.
Jonathan is hotness. His question to Ozzie may have helped turn things. “Uh, I’ll use the million dollars to go to school and better myself. It’s been so hard doing it by being a surfer.” Uh huh.
Yeah, me too. I paused the Tivo, turned to my SO, and said, “wow, how funny would it be if neither of them could make fire?”.
I think without Yul’s move (which I agree was brilliant), Ozzy probably still gets to the final 3 tribal council on immunities. But since he only has 3 allies, he would likely lose the vote. I dislike Adam, too… but maybe he meant the firemaking challenge between Sundra and Becky was boring. Sitting through 2 hours of that unable to say anything must’ve been torture.
I was really glad Yul won it, he totally deserved the win and will probably change how the game is played henceforth. (Although it looks like next season gets 2 hidden immunity idols) I totally loved the 8 way obstacle course + puzzle challenge. Really enjoyed watching Ozzy fly through it. They’ve really raised the bar on challenges this season. Hope to see more of that challenge goodness in Fiji.
Also, I’m really glad they sized the platforms in proportion to foot size. In the past, certain contestants had unfair advantage.
Oh, and one thing I’d change in future seasons: at the tribal council voting booth, please put up a sign beside the camera that reads: “You are voting for one of the following people…” and a list of the names all spelled out. No more Yuehl, Yule, You’ll, Yyyyuuuuullllllleeeee, Yool, Yuul, Youlee, or Youl nonsense.
I agree. That’s pretty much all I have to say - the eye-rolling and smirking was just pathetic.
Oh, and I’m glad Yul won.
I’ve thought the same thing for a couple of years - it seems so simple.
On the other hand, would putting names up throw someone off? “Oh, I was gonna vote for Yuhle but who’s this ‘Yul’ person listed? I don’t know him.” Some contestants ain’t too bright.
But he made it all worthwhile for me with “This guy’s the Godfather. This guy’s the warrior. I don’t know what these two do.”
Man, wasn’t til reading the paper this a.m. that I realized I had completely forgotten to watch or tape it last night. :smack:
So I gather Yul won?
I wondered about two things while watching the reunion show.
Why doesn’t Jeff ever mention the second place prize money?
Why didn’t Jeff ask them why they never voted Yul off after everybody knew he had the Immunity Idol?
survivorfever.net lists the Jury voting as Brad, Rebecca, Candice, Jonathan, and Adam for Yul, with Jenny, Nathan, Parvati, and Sundra for Ozzy.
[segue]I had to search for this earlier this morning to write up my last office pool update.[/segue] I had Sundra in the pool. Didn’t figure to win going into the weekend, but nonetheless was disappointed to be gonged for not being able to make fire. With matches. I agree with the earlier posts that I sure do clean up good, though!
