I would’t bet against that! But it sure would be fun to watch. In a cringe worthy, fun type of way.
You’re right, a few people have won playing under the radar. But Sandra is not an under the radar player. She was deliberately stirring up shit with Russell in the last episode. You can’t do that and still claim to be under the radar.
So we agree on both points. You can win as an UTR player, and Sandra hasn’t been UTR.
Yes Sandra hasn’t been UTR, but Jerri certainly has. And to some extent so has Colby (although a better description of his gameplay would be “Running Scared”)
I’d characterize his gameplay as “Why the hell did I contractually obligate myself to go through this shit again?”
That’s my take too. Colby isn’t playing the game at all, except in a perfunctory way.
I do wonder, though, now that he is close enough to smell that million, if he will pick it up in the last couple of immunity challenges.
I didn’t day it wasn’t good game play, it certainly works for her. I just don’t see it as bold per say. To me, bold is more of the in-your-face type of play that we get from people (and I use that term loosely) like Russell. He makes no secret that he is cut throat and out to get you. Until her comment to Russell in this last episode, Sandra has not been outwardly aggressive. She has just been paying attention to who is being targeted, voting accordingly and being happy its not her they voted for. We’ll have to agree to disagree on what constitutes bold
What’s not bold about going over to the Heroes, spilling the beans on Russell and hoping that she can switch alliance? She made the moves to make the swap, but she realized that it was all for naught when Candice flipped. She was shrewd to stick with her original Villain alliance because of the flip by Candice. She made no secret that she was pissed off that Boston Rob got the boot and she had a dislike for Russell. On top of that she didn’t use that hatred to cloud her judgment about alliances. She stayed with Villains so long as it keeps her in the majority, even if she not part of the info sharing loop.
That’s what baffles me the most. How can Sandra be getting all this flak for do nothing when in fact she’s been working the people so many times. Even when things don’t go her way, she doesn’t pout and be all vindictive, she rolls with the punches. Adjusts her plans on staying longer with the plans of others around her. She wanted to get rid of plenty of people, she voted with the majority believing that her vote would send say Rupert home three weeks ago. It didn’t pan out, but at least she knew her head wasn’t on the chopping block and that Rupert will b going home eventually because there was a dislike for him in general within the camp.
We all know she doesn’t play the game like Russell, but no one else plays it with such ego and self-entitlement like he does anyways. She has social skills like approaching people at opportune times. She has a silver tongue and can out argue anyone. She can make fun of people in a non-serious manner. She doesn’t take things as serious as Russell and can let. things slide. She’s absolutely a good player, not a prototypical winner though. Not someone you’ll remember for sure.
Probst’ latest blog entry is posted…
Ponderosa Rupert Edition parts 1 and 2.
notice that there’s a mutual hatred for all things Russell from pretty much all the losers at losers’ lounge.
It’s too bad CBS didn’t put up secret scenes this week. I usually love the extras they put up on youtube.
Isn’t it obvious why no one just asked him to stop?
Everyone is taking a page out of Sandra’s book. Say Nothing. Do Nothing. Offend no one. Threaten no one. Just stay in the background and wait until someone else asks him to stop making noise and let them take all the flak.
OK. I’m mostly just kidding. But, the truth is that it would be very revealing to figure out why Jerri never asked Rupert to stop making noise and I think it’s worth trying to figure that out.
I also seem to remember someone else doing this and I think it was on the day before they were booted. Could it have been that Limo Driver person? The General? didn’t he pull something like this? I seem to recall that it didn’t help him either. He was booted in quick succession around the time he started making a pain of himself. So, who knows? Maybe people seem to feel that if they know they are going home, they might as well rock the boat as much as they can until they are voted out?
Sorry. The truth is that I really don’t know why it was a big deal to ask Rupert to stop. The only reason I can think of is that no one wanted to make any waves - not even teeny tiny waves.
They don’t want to ask Rupert to stop because he’ll go in to one of his critical speeches of how he’s doing things for the betterment of camp life and then will go wtf are you doing to help out? Then go in to a holier than thou speech which no adult wants to be a part of. He grates people with his personality. No one wants to get into his face because he ain’t gonna change, he’ll defend himself and think he’s doing what’s productive and good.
I think Probst made an error
Amanda lost in back to back Final Tribals in China and Fans vs Favorites
I think you raise a very important point. You suggested that she purposely goad him into voting for her so she could get him out by playing the idol. Wasn’t that a clever plan? Wasn’t that an intelligent thing to do? Wouldn’t that have made anyone who did it a very clever player?
But, you go on to say, “Turned out not to be her plan.”
IMO, this is more evidence that Sandra just goes all the way down the line with the “Say nothing”, “Do nothing”, “Be nothing” strategy. Even if she had a chance to take out Russel, she is either too dumb to think of it. Or she is too commited to her basic “do nothing”, “say nothing”, “be nothing” personality to try anything new.
Watching Sandra is just the most boring possible thing in the world. I hope you enjoy watching Sandra. I surely do not. It just kills me that (IMO) she takes no chances, makes no moves and stays completely under the radar - you might even say she stays completely invisible.
No, wait! I will say it. She has a beautiful opportunity to give Russel the boot. It’s almost even foolproof. Isn’t it? And what does she do? Nothing! Nothing! Nothing!
I’m even surprised that she went looking for the HII in the first place - or that she even touched it. The Sandra I know would have just gone back to her camp and tried to get something to eat while leaving everyone else to fight it out for the HII.
There is just one thing I know for sure. Watching Sandra play this game just makes me cry.
I guess there’s different ways to do it:
-
Hey Rupert! Quick making so much fucking noise, you dumb ass hick!!
-
Hey Rupert? Could you do us a big favor and postpone that work until morning? We’re all trying to get some sleep. We’ll help in the morning, but we really need to get some sleep. Thanks!
Why would ANYONE on that beach ever want to get rid of Russell?! He’s the PERFECT person to take to Final Tribal. Nobody likes him. Nobody respects his game. No one on that jury is going to give him the million dollars. Nobody. If you have to sit at Final Tribal with two other people, you WANT one of them to be Russell. Because that takes your chances of winning from 1 in 3 to 1 in 2.
Sandra isn’t stupid. She knows that going up against a Hero is more difficult than going up against someone who so hated like Russell. Why get rid of someone that people hate? Parv discussed this very same thing.
Seriously you must be turning off your TV when Sandra comes on because she says plenty, does plenty and is more than nothing. She just plays it low-key. Not a drama queen, not petty and vindictive. She’s calculating, sharp and flexible in terms of strats. She’s not one to tunnel vision her votes because you smell like shit. She won’t gun for you if you don’t gun for her. Joanie you seriously need to stop with that bullshit “be nothing, say nothing, do nothing” line for Sandra. You have absolutely no proof that’s her game and I rebutted all your opinions with examples in this season of Survivor.
- Rupert - THANK YOU for doing something no one likes to do. I know I certainly appreciate it. But for some reason, I cannot fall asleep right now. I will help you knock that out tomorrow morning if you stop now.
Jerri doesn’t want Russell next to her at the end, because Russell will spend the time telling the jury why Person #3 is more deserving that Jerri, since she didn’t do anything without Russell’s approval or suggestion.
But I’m not sure who Jerri wants - she doesn’t have too much chance in any scenario.
When you’re pissed off at a person for being inconsiderate. Do you automatically think rationally and logically about how to approach the asshole in question? NO.
What you think of is wtf is this guy thinking? If you do go and talk to him you are in no mood to act nice and play nice. You’ll be up all in his face and say shit you don’t want to say. It’s a powder keg and you don’t want to light the fuse to blow up. It’s wise for people to not confront Rupert because they’ll come out being both asses for their own different reasons.
