Ted Nugent: "Muslim devils should die"

Regardless of which ignorant, egotistical celebrity it is, why do people put so much weight onto what they say? I would be happy as a pig in shit if they ALL would shut up. They all have a right to speak I suppose, but what is it about them that makes their opinions so important? It mystifies me.

Which would be a good thing. If people just started ignoring celebrities, maybe they’d all go away.

From the book:

So, after twenty years, we’re at war with Eurasia and Eastasia

Oh yeah, The Nuge is still a poopy-pants. Too bad there wasn’t a slot open the ANG for him. They could have made a man out of him.

ETF, its not fair to ask SA to make a comparison between a washed up celeb that’s pro-murder and one that’s not.

WAR IS PEACE

Great Og, man, do you realize you just agreed with Starving Artist AGAIN?!?

This is getting to be a habit. Maybe I should pick an argument just to “clear my record”

Linda Ronstadt is pro-murder?

Oh, sorry, E72521. It was the “washed up” part that threw me.

Who knows? Last I heard she got fired from her Vegas gig before she got a chance to call for any killings (tongue firmly in cheek).

You’re still ducking, SA.

That’s too funny.

You do love to try to pin me down, don’t you?

You want the truth? I’ll give ya the truth. No, it isn’t as abhorrent. Why, you ask? Well, a couple of reasons. One, no one takes him seriously. I think I have to be honest and say that much of the reason I object to celebrities speaking out politically is that, given I’m opposed to much of what they are in favor of, I’m fearful of their possible influence, particularly in view of the fact that Hollywood outspokenness runs about 99-to-1 liberal. And as I’ve said, it also smacks of conceit and arrogance. In my opinion, while Ronstadt certainly is no heavy-hitter, she certainly has more credibility than Nugent, thus she seems more of a threat. I would equate Nugent as more along the lines of, say, a David Crosby or Hunter S. Thompson…somebody so outrageously out there that no one takes them seriously. And, as I’ve said before, it would be perfectly all right with me if no celebrity were to speak out at all, but if they’re going to, I wouldn’t object nearly so much if the POV expressed were more “fair and balanced.”

A map of Orwell’s 1984 for anyone interested.

Heh. I’ll go with: Ted and Linda are both borderline insane…but all I hold against Linda is some rather sappy songs. Ted…now, he is just really, really scary on multiple fronts.

So while I’d prefer they both shut up, I’d like to see Ted in front of an animal holding a bow and arrow.

You’re not gonna get “fair and balanced”. That assumes the “celebrity” knows something. Plenty of them are not even that good at what they do for a living, so expecting them to do any more than to “shut up and look nice” as expecting too much. The very idea that anyone even cares what they say is beyond me. Why should the opinion of Doctor Gorgeousman from As The Stomach Churns have any more credence than what my neightborhood bartender says? What if your garbageman really has all the answers? See what I’m getting at? It isn’t so much what they say, it’s how important people think it is, just because they said it.

Um, that’s where the animal’s holding the bow and arrow. It’s been WAY too long since I’ve posted, so I’m struggling with my syntax, as it were.

Ooh! Ooh! Can I pick the animal? I vote for enraged Kodiak bear. A young one with the speed to close the gap quickly, and the power to tear trees out by the roots. I mean, let’s make it interesting.

Last night I shot an elephant in my pajamas and how he got in my pajamas I’ll never know. – Grouch Marx

I’d like to go on record here as having always been a supporter of the right to arm bears.

The problem, you see, Steve, is that I don’t have confidence in everyone else not to be influenced. I know I wouldn’t be, but I don’t know about their fans and/or followers. I think a goodly many people are influenced by celebrities they either like or idolize, and that they are certainly susceptible to being persuaded by them to a certain belief or POV that they wouldn’t necessarily have had otherwise. There are a tremendous number of uninformed people out there, and many of them know it themselves. So, out of either laziness or lack of confidence, they look to someone they like or trust to tell them what’s right so they don’t have to try to figure it out for themselves. Everyone knows celebrities influence people; that’s the exact reason they’re put in front of microphones in the first place.

Ah, my contumacious turnipseed, you are to me as the moth is to the lepidopterist.
