The home handyman who made a number of small repairs for me did a super job and would not take as much money as I thought it was worth.
No joke.

My son graduated with a 4.0 average, and yesterday got a job.
My wife is getting atop her now full-time pastorate.
My dad is out of the hospital for now.
I had my contract renewed at work, so I will be here a while longer.
Regards,
Shodan
I have met a nice lady. We’re not anything serious yet, but I think there’s a good chance that it will progress a few more stages at least.
I know, right? ELEVEN. I assure you this was entirely unauthorized. I filed a complaint at the rate of growth, and was met with rolled eyes and a heavy sigh.
She’s a perfectly normal tween, in other words. ![]()
Here’s something I think about from time to time: human beings are perfectly capable of doing horrible things to animals, and to the natural world in general.
But at the same time, there are plenty of examples like this and this where humans go out of their way to be kind to animals just for the sake of kindness. Human kindness exists and is real and is by no means the rare exception.
Our local newspaper invited people to write a short piece about their church/house of worship. I wrote about my congregation(Episcopal), emphasizing that folks were very friendly, the preaching was good, and that NOBODY was turned away “based on anything in their nature”. That was the shortest and most discreet way to indicate we don’t judge based on race, orientation, ethnic background, or whatever."
Later our dean(we’re a cathedral church) told me that he’d had tow people that had come to him to express interest in joining after reading that latter part. He didn’t have to tell me I suppose, but it did make me feel good.
Today I went to get a pack of almonds out if the vending machine at work, and it gave me two packs! It was like hitting the snack jackpot. The snackpot.
I even gave one pack away. I could afford to be magnanimous after a windfall like that.
Butter pecan. Life presented you with a difficult choice and you made absolutely the right one, the only one. Good for you. Never look back.
Protip: You can ask them to put a scoop of butter pecan in a bowl, microwave it for 30 seconds, and then top that with another scoop of butter pecan, and then ladle chopped pecans over the whole thing.
Warning: Not for people with tree-nut allergies.
I can always get worse.
The guy in the drivethrough ahead of me paid for my meal because I didn’t honk impatiently at him while he finished a call.
I’m returning to college in the fall for another degree. I want to be an oncology social worker. I’m 52. I’m nervous but so excited!
I walked six miles in my workout yesterday. I’ve never, ever walked six miles before! I’m going for the same thing tomorrow.
We have baby squirrels somewhere in our backyard. We feed the squirrels (and birds) and there’s been one badass who shrieks at the other squirrels and even pushed one off the deck! It’s about four feet high and s/he was fine. When the badass stood on her hind legs to beg it was very clear that she’s a nursing mama. We’re helping to raise the next generation of beggars.
Somewhere out there, there is a tiny kitten purring contentedly in somebody’s lap.
I have a cheat to track it. She’s a few months older than The Nephew ![]()
^This.
I ran the Toronto Waterfront 10K last weekend and TIED my personal best from 2010 (which was a 10K downhill in Hamilton). Tied it right to the second: 1:03:51.
Lake Mendota in Madison has been called the most studied lake in the United States.
There is a scientific research buoy anchored out in the middle of the lake. It’s official name is “David Buoy.”
I really like it when academics show a sense of humor.
Good, now we’re talking.
My wife got a raise.
I saw one of “my people music” (as so lovingly dubbed by Ms. Cups) bands last night and they were the last of my favorite bands that I had yet to see.
So of my top 4 favorite bands I have officially seen all of them in concert!
I found a good place for pub trivia that’s really close to my house, and this week my team the “Bad Ass Bitches” won. And so we won a $50 gift certificate to the bar. And the event is held outside on the patio, and lots of people were there with their friendly dogs, so that made it so much better.
That is adorable.
I heard about that and was very excited.
I think this is going to be my mantra now whenever I’m upset, it should really help.
I liked it. What was the significance of the apple and (apple juice?) ?
