I’m surprised no one has brought up the best part of this: TO is comparing himself to Rosa Parks:

Not that I think Terrel Owens is a nice guy, but you are being unfair.
His contract gave him until March 2 to file, and then it was changed without anyone telling him.
Considering all the bad feelings between Owens and the 49ers, I don’t think it is impossible that they deliberately didn’t tell him that his contract got changed. Especially since they knew he wanted to file.
So yeah, he has a right to be upset, and I would fight it too in his place. But I still don’t think he’s a nice guy.
Actually, his agent was notified 11 days before the new filing date, and he still didn’t file. It’s the agent that fucked up, TO’s gotta suck it up.
As to the rest, Philly was offering SF a 5th round choice and James Thrash for TO, plus they had negotiated terms for a new contract for TO on the side. B-more came in and offered a 2 for TO, and Frisco took that deal. Nothing underhanded was done, Frisco retained the rights to the final 3 years of TOs contract because, as I mentioned earlier, TO’s agent didn’t file the apropriate paperwork to void the deal. They traded those rights to Baltimore. Ozzie Newsome took the extrodinary step of contacting TO’s agent and letting him know that the Ravens were making the trade with the full intention of offering TO the same deal Philly had offered on the side, perhaps even a bit better. Owens entire hissey fit is due to the fact that he was looking forward to playing grab-ass in the showers with his good buddy Donovan McNabb, and now he can’t. Tough titty said the kitty. As far as I’m concerned, Owens is “Leon” from the Budweiser commercials. He’s extrodinarily self centered, and while he has a ton of god given talent, I don’t think he has any heart. Last year, Ray Lewis and Chris McAlister shut him down when the 'Niners played B-more, he just quit because he didn’t want to get his uni dirty. I don’t even know why he wants to go to Philly anyway, the Eagles are in decline. They’ve lost both their starting cornerbacks and their running back to free agency, Owens would be double and tripple teamed ever play in Philly. In Baltimore, he’d be looking at man coverage most of the time, because the oponents have to stack the box to stuff Lewis, while still respecting Heap. He’d be damn close to being “the last piece of the puzzle” for a division champion on it’s way up. Why he wants to trade that for being the only piece of the puzzle on a team that’s on it’s way down is beyond me.
As to what the Ravens should do, in my mind they tell TO he’s got a contract, he can either play or sit. If he plays well they’ll renegotiate next year ( in my mind he lost the generous offer of renegotiating this year when he threw a temper tantrum ), otherwise, he can sit on his ass for the three most productive years of his career and see what kind of contract is offered to him in 2007 when he hasn’t played in 3 years and is on the wrong side of 33. Either that or trade him to the Cardinals.
Mouthbreather, what the fuck crawled up your ass and died?
I guess so. But it still seems odd that nobody told Owens that his contact had been changed without his knowledge.
Especially so close to the deadline. Owens most likely had the deadline circled on his calendar, never suspecting his contract would get pulled out from under him at nearly the last second.
The 49ers knew Owens wanted to file, and they knew that if he did they couldn’t trade him. They also hate his guts.
I wouldn’t be surprised if there was some effort made in the hopes that he wouldn’t learn of the changes to his contract. If only making sure never to mention anything about it while he was in earshot.
I suppose you think the Browns hate Dennis Northcutt too? Because the same thing happened to him, along with one (maybe two) other players whom I can’t recall ATM.
The contract filing date was changed due the new player contract so the 49er’s had nothing to do with that. They were handed a player who had value because his stupid agent was negligent. They owe him absolutely nothing especially the way he acted in the last 2 years. Christ why didn’t the agent call TO. That is what I can’t figure out.
Well, yes, you’re a dipshit too, because a) “definitely can’t” is not “never will”… and b) obviously “four yards” was hyperbole. My grandmother can throw a ball four yards.
The point, which you and Weirddave seem to be having trouble finding under his mountain of bullshit, is that any reciever with a functioning brain would rather have Donovan McNabb throwing him the ball than Tim Rattay or Kyle Boller.
Oh, and here is a “Staley to Steelers” link. 5 years, $14 million, and he turned down a more lucrative offer from the Lions.
He might do that. He might also put the Eagles in the Super Bowl. He might do both.
I generally conclude that I’d rather risk losing without him than have the elevated chance of winning with him. The certainty of getting an ulcer having to cheer for the bastard does outwieghs the possibility of a ring.
What’s got me really pissed is that the whole mess meant the Iggles lost the chance to sign Justin McCareins.
Enjoy Duce, Steeler Fans. He’s a gamer.
You said what you said, and all of the lies and denial in the world after the fact can’t change that when it’s right out there for the world to see in black and white. George Bush really seems to have inspired you.
As for McNabb…He’s a very good QB, a real gamer and a definite team leader, but an ace passing threat he’s not. Why in the world would a receiver prefer being thrown to in triple coverage from someone whith whom throwing is not his real strength? McNabb is a QB that makes things happen with his feet, not his arm.
Now that’s what I call a team.
One thing that nobody else has pointed out is that TO is sticking up for his agent. According to this link, TO says that NFLPA director Gene Upshaw supposedly sent TO’s agent a fax 11 days before the filing deadline as per CBA (collective barganing agreement) rules. The agent states that he never received the fax. The sticking point is that also under CBA rules, the NFLPA was supposed to send a certified letter to the agent and Owens which they never did. Those rules were put in place so this kind of situation would never happen.
If the proper procedures weren’t followed by the NFLPA I think TO has a credible argument that he wasn’t notified properly and should get his shot at free agency.
Except that it’s the Players Association that fouled up, not the league or the team. Why should the 49ers lose because of someone else’s cock-up? Personally, I also find it difficult to believe that the agent never received the fax – don’t fax machines report back that the transmission was received before the originating machine can say the send was successful?
I had the same thought about the fax receipt but no info on that has come up. My thought is this on the NFLPA. The enacted the rules under the CBA. If those rules weren’t followed and things got screwed up, it should be the players fault either. I don’t see the 49ers getting screwed because if the rules would have been followed correctly, he wouldn’t have been their player to trade in the first place.
I’ve been wanting to respond to this thread since it’s inception but I keep busting up in a fit giggles. Being a 49es fan, and watching him wave at passes, drop passes that hit him in the numbers and generally behaving like a drama queen on crack, it’s a relief to see this cancer excised from the team. (Not that I think the Niners will get any better, man I miss Carmen Policy/Eddie Debartlo) Woe is the team who get’s the 49ers ex-loudmouth. I’m going to second Weirddave’s comment on McNabb. McNabb is a whole lot like Jeff Garcia, hes best when he’s moving around, which means the receiver has to make an effort to get to the ball, which TO definately won’t at least not consistently. When this costs the eagles a game, boy would I love to be in that locker room. If he goes to Baltimore, all my fun goes out the window.
Jesus. You actually went ahead and contributed something. Being a scrambling QB does not necessarily mean you can’t throw. Remember that McNabb has been working with the fear-inspiring reciever combination of “Thrash, Pinkston and Mitchell” for a few years now. His backs rack up more recieving yards. With a genuine downfield threat McNabb could shatter his old passing numbers.
New question: who does more damage to the locker room he ends up in, TO or Keyshawn?
TO hands down. Keyshawn whether he’s acting jerkish or not actually shows up on the field. TO when in crybaby mode performs shitty in the game too.
I’d even give Keyshawn the nod over Randy “I only play when I feel like it” Moss.
No, dipshit, you said “Tim Rattay hasn’t.” You said Kyle Boller “definitely can’t.”
I was merely showing you that Tim Rattay has. You made a stupid comment with no indication of hyperbole, whether you think it was obvious or not.
Neurotik - yes, I do know how they count passing yards. That’s my point - his average was more than four yards, which makes the statement “Tim Rattay hasn’t thrown an accurate pass more than four yards” even more ridiculous.
That’s my new deodorant, thanks for noticing!
Sorry, I am just used to reading you ranting and raving about football with one of about 4 people and they are all Steelers fans. I saw some new blood in the mix and got a little excited.
Besides – you should be in good spirits. If Jamal stays out of the pokey you guys are gonna steamroll the AFC north this year.
