Yep, no doubt about it, today sucked. In the worst possible way. This message board however, provided a place to get information, exchange thoughts and even lend a hand. I know it doesn’t put dollars in the bank, but it counts for something. Thanks to all of you at the SD for moderating and just for a great place to hang out when life gets shitty.
(I am not trying to kiss any butt just really tryin’ to show my appreciation for this community and all those who rose to the occasion today.)
Thanks from me too. This board supplied the only information I could get on line this morning-- all the news sites were tied up something awful. I had a radio on, and ended up in front of our lecture hall screen, but the human contact this board provided was a great help. Not to mention the IMs I got from Dopers.
I’d like to add some huge kudos to the mods, too. I think they did a stellar job keeping sanity reigning here today. There were a lot of stupid/nasty threads that got shut down before they could inspire even more bad feelings.
I’ve always supported the mods, but never more than today.
It was incredibly comforting to come here yesterday when I couldn’t get in touch with my family and friends. I know that I’m not well known on the board but it still provided comfort to be able to have contact with familiar people in even such a passive way as reading their comments.
I also would like to thank the moderators for their quick action on the hateful threads that were starting to spring p. I hope that this continues throughout this ordeal.
I hope that if it is found to be true that Osama Bin Laden was responsible, that the members of this board keep in mind that not everyone from the middle east shares his anti-american sentiments and DO NOT deserve any harassment.
Let this be the ignorance that we all fight together.
Thanks, everyone. We appreciate your votes of confidence in our actions, as well as your help policing the boards. I received numerous e-mails from members that fall in one or both of the categories above. It’s people like you that make this job easier and worth the effort.
Slàinte! Prosit! Skol! Cheers! Salut! Pick your favorite.
and a belated big thank you from me. When the news first hit, I was in my alternate reality, all I knew was that some one’s head popped over the cubes (kinda like a prarie dog), and said “a plane hit the World Trade Center”.
For the next while, I tried to get in at news sites. Nada. Finally tried the SDMB, assuming that if there had been any significant event, I’d hear all about it there. and it unfolded before my eyes.
I left there, early, so I could go where I could listen to the news.
Thanks to one and all, and especially big hugs/kisses to the mods for keeping the lid on (when things this big happen, I fear the reaction).
But, all in all, (ok, a few ‘nukem-alls’ aside), it’s been rather heartening, (especially the apologies in the Pits and the pro-gun folks in GD - nuff said).
now, if only the local yahoos would settle down (there was a run on gas last night)
Ya know, Jerry and the tech staff deserve a big round of applause, too. The fixes he put in a few weeks back certainly stood the test of fire yesterday. This site was moving along pretty damned well in spite of the large increase in traffic. I saw a few other message boards shut down because they were overloaded.
Nymysys, you are busted! I sure hope you’re back to MPSIMS before FairyChatMom gets home…
And to the mods, admins, and Jerrys, (and Cecil, of course)a big bunch of sloppy e-kisses from me, too. I can’t imagine yesterday without the SDMB. I was also watching the number of others on the boards and although it was slow at times, you guys kicked butt!
[sub]Only e-kisses from me, kiddos, I’m very married and we wouldn’t want to cause Mr. Ruby any undue concern, now would we?:)[/sub]
