That's it. Let's have a Comfort Party.

Okay, I just read Lurk’s post and went ‘oooooh’ a lot, just hearing about the coloring of the kitties! That’s comfort in and of itself.

My dears! Seems everyone is doing ok? I graduated!!! And I’m moving out soon, and I’m doing awesome. k. done.

The black and orange kitten’s eyes are open! And the dusty white one is now showing some black around its ears and at the base of its tail.

Ooooooo! Pics? Or names? or somethin’? Pleeeeeeze?

Congratulations Lynne!!

::hands Lynne a shandy and banana/maltball muffin::

Relax darlin’.

Yay! Eyes are opening! How’s the missus handing the new horde? Hope they aren’t driving you guys nuts.

Well, so far all they do is eat and sleep. And squeek when I pick them up, which makes their mother glare at me.

I’ve been meaning to get a digital camera so I can post pictures online; maybe this week I’ll shop around.

BTW, in between all the kitten-fondling and attic work this weekend I finally did something else I’ve been meaning to do for a while: I signed up for a Live Journal account. There’s nothing posted on it yet, since I haven’t had time to set anything up. I started to go through the FAQ but it was late at night and my mind couldn’t focus enough to figure anything out.

Cool. Same username? When the site comes back up I’ll look you up

To heck with Weight Watchers today. I’m bloody starvin’!!

of course the banana and malteaser cakes are only 1 point each in case you are interested

Enjoy!

thanks, Washte! But what’s a Shandy?

Aww. I’m glad the kitties are doing ok. I’m destined never to own one, my dad’s allergic, and I want him to be able to come visit me. My twin brother is allergic too, but his visiting is not nearly as important. So, to recap… ya kitties, can I visit 'em?!

Yeah, Washte. Clue all us culturally disadvantaged 'Merkuns in, here. What is a shandy?

And I’m glad to know that those are banana/maltball muffins. The first time I read that quickly, I thought they were banana/meatball muffins.

Now I feel like I have to mess around in the kitchen until I come up with a suprisingly yummy banana-meatball muffin recipe.

But I promise not to do it in this thread.

Shandy* is a 50/50 mix of beer and (UK style) lemonade. The closest thing to the UK’s type of lemonade would be Sprite or 7-up.

Yes, I know it sounds nasty (when I went back to the States I had to convince a barman that I wasn’t mentally ill), but it is a wonderfully refreshing drink on a hot summer’s day.

Try it, you know you wanna…

BTW, made the muffins last night. There’s not that many left.

::burp::

It’s been a while since I needed a hug or a good word but I think I need something right now.
I posted a thread almost two weeks ago about my sons father finally wanting to see him after not being around for three years.
Filing for joint custody and visitation after 12 years.
I guess things went well, I try not to pry but I worry.
He was excited to see everyone and that they went to church. That was one of the things they thought they were going to hold against me was my religion. Even had something about wanting to be part of his religious upbringing in the paperwork.
Fine by me. My children may choose as they please. I do not force my beliefs upon them (Wicca) and neither does my husband (Baptist). I think they are Open Bible or something. They sure weren’t too religious when his father and I were together. Oh well.
But get this…after I had them change some of the wording like about how the father hasn’t seen the son in three years due to mother denying visitation and said father getting to claim son on income tax every year after his child support is current, I signed the paper work.
Now for the interesting part…Child Support Recovery sent me paperwork in the mail saying they want the paperwork from the lawyer thrown out and discarded. What? I’m confused.
I’m waiting on a call from them to see why the state doesn’t want his father to have visitation. This could get rough. Interesting and maybe good for a laugh, but rough.
It would serve them right to work for something after not being around for three years.

I’m also dealing with my own ill health.
I went and saw another doctor about the pain in my side that I have been posting about for the past three years and no doctor can figure out what it is.
Two weekends ago I was sent home from work in doubled over type pain.
The cyst that has been on my righ ovary this whole time and they kept telling me was normal cycle type cyst is now the size of my ovary.
And they are thinking also maybe endometriosis because of the bad cramps. Anyone every have period cramps that burn? That started last month for me. Like fire! And the pain in my side is horrible! Sorry if that is TMI for the thread.
But, I go and see a OB/GYN on the tenth of June to find out if and what bits and pieces might need to be removed.
I might start a new thread about hysterectomy nightmares. I’ve had some doozies!

Enough of my two weeks of sob stories, I’m going to share the many loaves of banana bread I made yesterday. Never made it before and never eaten it before, but the children are in love with it. So, enjoy. I’m guessing a couple gallons of milk might be in order as well.

Hugs to all that I have missed since the last time I was in.
LurkMeister, can I see the kittens? It’s been ages since I’ve had kittens around?

This is turning into one of those weeks. Nothing major (yet) but a lot of little things are taking up more and more of my time, and I’ve got to make sure I don’t forget about the important jobs because I’m buried in minutiae. I’m going to try to at least take some pictures of the kittens this week, but I may not get them posted until next week.

{{{Kricket}}}

Banana bread is so yummy. Hope things go better for you.

I think I’ll haul my mom and dad in here. They’re gunna need some comfort. My dad lost his job, and while he works through the end of June, has a great severance package, and should be able to find a new job just fine, but still, it’s all high on the suck-o-meter.

Off to take a shower, sunscreen myself, and go looking for jobs. (the sunscreen has nothing to do with the jobs, just a, oh yeah, hafta do that cause I may as well be albino. I’m like a steak. 5 minutes on one side, 3 minutes on the other, medium rare! Grrr.)

Major hugs to Kricket and Lynne-kilii and family. And footie PJ’s. And puppies and kitties, and anything else we can get ya.

Anyone for popcorn? I just made some, and it’s still piping hot. We can sit in the couch fort mark 2 (which I’ve just started building- I’d appreciate cushion and blanket donations) and watch fun movies. Anyone got flick suggestions?

Bah. Hamsters at my post.

anyway, I got a job as a waitress(it wasn’t as simple as it looked I’m in debt to my mother for clipping it, and I’ve been looking for a job for weeks). I’m excited and I start training next Wednesday. Wish me luck.

My dad’ll be alright, but I’m not too thrilled that the company that liked him enough to promote him multiple times, give him awards for outstanding performance, and seminars/trips as thank you’s for his excellent service to them for 12 years, can’t find a place for him among the ranks.

Sorry things are socrappy for you at the moment Kricket. Many hugs to you and your family.

Congrats on the job Lynne! Hope it works out well for you.

Banana bread and popcorn?? What more could you ask for? May I have some grated parmesan cheese on my popcorn and a small glass of milk to go with the nana bread, please?

Have you worked out you LJ yet, Lurky? I looked the other day bit couldn’d find you. Give the missus all my best. Hugs to you both.

Please pardon the horrid typos. Apparently the mind is working fine, but the fingers are well on their way to sleep… :smack:

{{{{Kricket}}}}

Best of luck with the bureaucratic ick. And I hope your health problems get taken care of as quickly, completely, and permanently as possible.

I hope your dad finds work soon, and congrats on your new job.

I know what it’s like to be having one of those weeks. I’m having one of those months.

Earlier this quarter, I thought I’d be having a wonderful summer. I’d be dating a great guy (ha!), working as a TA (ha, ha!), and I’d have no more data gathering crap to do, so I could concentrate on analysis and make some serious progress on my thesis (ha, ha, HA!!!)

As it is, it seems like things with the guy are kaput (bleh), I still have no job for summer, even though my summer term starts in a week and a half (youch!), and my committee wants to see a bunch more data (Ech, ech, ECH!!!) So it’s going to be a quarter of poverty, loneliness, and thankless toil. Feh.

Oh–and I have serious dental surgery fun on Friday. That’ll more or less knock me out for the weekend. Fun, fun, fun.

Oh–and I forgot to mention–my committee wants me to take more coursework. What with having to find a job, quite possibly having to work outside the university full-time for the summer, and having to do more field work, I probably won’t be graduating until the end of the next academic year.

Sucks.
