<opens jar of special Feet Treat oil for CJ> You just have a seat right on the bean bag lounger, hon. We’ll get you fixed right up. How about a nice hot chocolate?
Ooh, aromoatherapy pillows! That reminds me…I once ordered a bunch of lavender eye pillows to sell in my studio. Then I closed my studio, and guess what I have in that box tucked under the curing racks! Silk eye pillows for all! And if you don’t want to rest, you can use them to play with this beanbag tic-tac-toe thingy–remember having these when you were a kid?
<hugs DeVena>So glad you joined us. Here, have a seat next to CJ and we’ll get ivylass to fix your hair.
<peeks with one eye out from under pile of blankets> mmmm huh what? I think I fell asleep after gorging on cookies, popcorn, brownies, beansNrice, and macNcheese, or maybe it was the wine. I’m ready to watch Princess Bride now, or I brought some other movies, too. Ice Castles, Grease, and The Secret Garden. I can bring out my Rocky Mountain High LP if you have a record player, bodypoet. Mine broke.
Hey, Guin, wait for me, I wanna jump, too. If anything breaks, we can blame it on my doggie.
Where is my doggie, anyway? That slut, I see her making the rounds and looking for love. Mind that tongue, it’s lethal.
bodypoet You musta had some practice at this. I love paint by numbers. I’ll do one if I can hang it in your soap studio. Give ya something wonderfulll to remember us by.
Bear hugs for DeVena. Have another glass of wine.
While I’m here, anyone know any good tricks for destressing cats? We moved two weeks ago and the young one is finding it hard to adjust. Poor boy, he’s always been a little slow.
God, did I need this thread yesterday.
My morning show co-host couldn’t make it in due to the weather, and our midday host was in the same shape. It was Totally Todd Radio for about eight flippin’ hours yesterday morning -> afternoon. Add in school closings and production, and it would have been an all-around bad day…
…except that this is the best party I may have ever attended. I almost forgot all that other stuff, thanks to y’all.
Anyone up for Scrabble? Or euchre?
I have my turntable in tow, just in case, tmwster. Also brought a copy of Windsong on vinyl as well.
Youse guys rock. Thank you, as Mr. Rogers said, for “just your being you.”
Scrabble !! Yeah!
um…, what dictionary shall we go by?
Scrabble, oh yes! I have a mental block where euchre is concerned, unfortunately. I think I may be the only person in the world who can’t learn it. No, no, don’t tell me I’ll learn as I go along, trust me. I won’t. I’ll sit there for hours with a stupefied look on my face, trusting whoever stands behind me to tell me what card to put down, and I still, at the end of the day, will have no idea what “trump” means.
So Scrabble sounds great! And I threw some cheese dip into the crock pot, added some salsa and a little ground beef and some black beans and onions, you get the drift…
Where are those chips?
Todd, I’ll partner you in euchre. Now all we need is vic- er opponents. I’m also willing to teach you guys Double Deck Cancellation Go Fish Hearts, or, if we have more than ten people interested, Triple Deck Cancellation Re-Activation Go Fish Hearts, aka “tidycragfarts” (and I’d don’t care!).
Oh, and here’s a Scrabble Dictionary! :Tosses it into the crowd of Scrabble players:
Thanks for the footrub, BodyPoet!
Deal 'em!
CJ
Hey, I’ll make some of my chicken posole, and some chili relleno casserole…but this better not be a pajama party! (I’m a guy)
Can I join you guys? I’m new here and a little shy. I also can’t think of anything else to bring that hasn’t been mentioned except maybe some games like Quarto and Taboo and some beer.
Oh, I interpret dreams pretty well. Anyone have some doozies lately that need wisdom gleaned from them?
Can I sniff your crayons Belladonna?
Please, please, please braid my hair, Ivyglass. In as many braids as you can possibly do.
I’m wearing my footie PJ’s but I’m bringing socks for everyone. Wool ones, knit ones, funny ones and in all colors. Here ya go.
Oh and I have to sit next to you, FairyChatMom and get to know everything about you. I think you are a kindred spirit.
What a party. What a great idea. Thanks Bodypoet.
Oh and for you Scrabble players, I have a fairly new card game called Quiddler that’s a cross between Gin Rummy and Scrabble. Anyone up for a game?
Washte, you are a doll! And I am so jelous of you for being able to see him live. I had the biggest crush on him when I was a kid and was heartbroken when he died.
Bodypoet, are you sure your boys can handle my five? I mean I don’t call them “my little children of the corn” for nothing.
Thank you for the quiet time. I know if I could just get a little further into the book the rest will be a breeze.
TelcontarStorm, I’ll join you in the studio in a little bit. I’ve never made candles before. This should be fun!
Copper, welcome. And I’d be interested to find out about ?Quiddler !
Kricket, so funny, that’s my nickname too. ;). And my 14 yr old son is here to entertain your young-uns !!
P.S. too bad we can’t do this IRL. I propose a Dopefest solely for Pajama Party !!
I love the little heathens, really I do. But some days they are just so evil that I want to slap their dad.
Since you know that is purely genetic from his side.
cj, it’s an honor to partner up with you. Wicked loner you just pulled off, BTW.
I’m also glad you brought the Scrabble Dictionary. Thought I was gonna have to lug the Oxford English with the magnifying glass along.
Regarding euchre, Bodypoet, don’t sweat it. I can help teach you strategy…haven’t lost one yet. C’mon along for the ride!
Quiddler sounds like fun, too. You’ll have to show me how to play, Copper_moon.
I second NinetyWt. Sure, we’re all a little far-flung, but this is a damned good idea.
Going through my books, I found a great Garrison Keillor essay that applies to this whole thread, called “Laying On Our Backs Looking Up At The Stars.” It’s from the book We Are Still Married.
Very Compressed Version: Garrison, wife and baby son host a vegetarian pizza party at a farmhouse they’re renting. As night rolls in, conversation turns to gloom and doom about Vietnam, so Garrison and friends take his baby boy out for some air and lay down to look at the sky, thinking about the bigger, more cosmic, less petty picture. It’s not a long story, but it’s a good one. If there are people wanting to gear down for a nap later, I’ll be glad to read it to them.
(Sounds weird, I know, but it’s a very comforting essay to hear read to you, like a children’s story written for adults.)
Good friends, games, great food, wonderful music, stuffed animals and warm socks…this is what Heaven’s like, right?
that’s right, todd
quiddler is my new favorite game ~ i’d be glad to share it.
oh and if the weather cooperates and warms up a little can we go climb out on the roof to gaze at the stars? I always sleep a little better after i’ve seen orion.
i’m making breakfast! we’ll send someone out for doughnuts but i’m making pancakes, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, biscuits, gravy, cinnamon rolls, and hashbrown casserole with onions and cheese in it. mmmmmm any other requests?
thanks for the welcome NinetyWt, so glad to be here
:: shuffles in ::
C’n I have a hug?
I just had the toughest week/month/year of my life…
[sub]…and, if you please, can it not be one of those “church-social” hugs? I need a big full arms-like-a-warm-blanket-wrapped-tight-around-the-shoulders comfort hug. The kind that has the potential to turn into the best neck-and-shoulder rub ever…[/sub]
There you go, Copper-Mom, there’s fifteen teeny braids for your head, each with a purple plastic barrette at the end.

Come here, sweetie, and tell me what happened. I’ll pour you a margarita and we’ll go soak in the hot tub.
Tygr, consider me a gumball machine that traffics in good hugs, no coins necessary.
Copper_moon, that breakfast sounds wonderful. Haven’t had hash brown casserole for ages. Is chocolate chips in my pancakes an option?
I’m going to make some chili too…you can never have enough chili. Throwing in stew beef, some cajun seasoning in addition to the regular goodies, and big pieces of onion. Some shredded sharp cheddar to the side, and some tortilla chips and regular flour tortillas for those who don’t want chips. And I’m using the same seasoning lineup for another pot full of black bean chili, for our vegetarian friends. That way you can mix it up the way you want it.
Music for this: I’ll whip in the new Ry Cooder/Manuel Galban album, Mambo Sinuendo. Something wondrously spicy and simultaneously comforting.
(Hmmm…okay if I grab a margarita, ivylass?)
cj, it looks like we’re one point away from from a win…good show!

(I didn’t count brackets, so I might have more left arms than right arms).
I’m all for comfort parties. Is there room on the big, cozy, overstuffed couch? I’m there!
