It’s muggy and damp out there, not very pleasant at all. We have had torrential rain and flash floods over the last few days so travel has been a bit disrupted for some people. Luckily I have been largely ok, although yesterday I was late getting to work because the usual bus I catch had been removed from service due to flooding on parts of the route.
I’ve just made a cup of tea - boil kettle, pour hot water on tea bag, leave to steep for a couple of minutes, remove tea bag, add milk. Drink. I really don’t see what all the fuss is about!
We are still stupidly busy at work with the end of year processing stuff, all the paperwork has to be sent to the College by lunchtime today so we are down to the last 45mins before deadline. Luckily I got both of my sets of papers in, we are just mopping up a few bits and pieces, then we can catch our breath this afternoon while papers are checked, and hopefully we can press the big button and marks will be flying free. Then I’m going home for a stiff drink.
Up early to put out the trash for collection. Need to clean out the refrigerator before leaving for Africa on Moanday, so breakfast was a head of lettuce (chopped) and a tomato (diced) in a big bowl.
And a Pepsi. It’s fun being old and retired.
Storm came through fast last night, trees were wobbly but nothing damaged in the area.
Yesterday was 93 and sunny, today is 70 and cloudy and I left the upstairs windows open for teh cat so I hope it doesn’t rain. Oh well, if it does, the carpet will get wet.
Today I pick up my share of the CSA box I’m splitting. Sharer says it contains kale (I will make kale chips tonight), spinach, another unidentifiable green, garlic snapes (?) sugar snap peas, and sorrel. Last night I roasted beets in prep for warm beet and goat cheese sallit with sorrel dressing. I feel so organic.
See – that’s why you’re Episcopalian. We Lutherans know Jell-o is the actual form of the manna God provided during our time in the desert and we honor that event at every church dinner (and breakfast for that matter) that we can. When Pastor says “let us pray” we’re all quietly praying for a little Cool-whip and some fruit for our Jell-o.
Lots of storms overnight. Some still passing through all day.
metal mouse, eating what you want isn’t so much an “old and retired” factor as it is cooking for one.
bobbio, your inlaws timed their foray through middle Tennessee pretty well. It isn’t stinking hot yet and CMAFest and Bonneroo are both over so the ugly traffic they generated is now just the other side of tolerable.
wet one, garlic snapes are the above ground part of the garlic plant. I use them where I want a little garlic flavor but lighter or like chives.
Busy again today and it looks like I’ll be here all day tomorrow. Oy!
I finally got around to calling the mortgage company and it’s a good thing I did. Instead of carrying over the information about my insurance company they got a policy for me, at almost twice the cost. So that is being fixed, should be done and my payments adjusted before the first payment is due.
I took a nap, no reason I should have needed one, but I did.
Howdy you all! Posting from Silver Creek, Jawja. Near Rome. Took the scenic route, drove 80 MPH. Flight was good and we arrived 15 early. Amazing to me that in less than an hour and a half I was in ATL. Would have been 16 hours driving. I had a window seat even. I got a Nissan Altima as a rental. Nice car but it has a push button start:eek: took me a few minutes to figure it out.
I could not make my GPS work on my iPhone. Dummy me. When I got near my sister talked me the rest of the way.
**Metal mouse ** Safe travels and take lots of photos.
Howdy Y’all! My irkweek is over. YAY!!! OYKW went and had a <snerk> Quickie! <snerk> dindin cause he had a gnawin’ and a cravin’ for their hamburger steak. I had my usual patty melt and fries. 'Twas good.
ruble I’d have starved in the wilderness.
BBBobbio yay for disappeared in-laws.
MetalMouse go stock up on junk food which you will have to eat up before your trip. Just a little helpful hint there.
Butters glad you made it safe and sound. Haven’t been up that way in years.
Butters, glad your flight went well. Will do on the photos.
swampy, I’m at the stage of trying to eat everything in the refrigerator that might spoil, so meals could be rather interesting the next several days…
Sprayed the clothing I am taking on vacation with a compound called Permethrin, which is supposed to be an insect repellent. Reading the label, it is pretty nasty stuff to inhale or get on you (but once it dries on your clothes, it appears to be perfectly safe), so I did it outside, with goggles and a breathing mask, so presumably I will not melt down into a pile of chemicals. Clothes are outside for another hour and I’ll wash them tomorrow.
But other than trying to poison myself, just another blurfy day in paradise.
**FCD **has gone to his first Harley chapter meeting in over a year. He always seems to forget them, so I’m glad he remembered. Plus I get to control the remote tonight. hehehehehe:D
Supper was ravioli with some leftover sketty sauce. I’ll have ice cream in a bit. I plan to crash early - I’s tahred!!!
I took my Nathan to an event near my home, called “Third Thursday” TV and radio stations play music and have broadcasts, and hotdogs, chips, sodas, water, beer are sold. This on was for the benefit of the local humane society so there were a lot of dogs there, with treats and water. I bought a hotdog combo and made a donation. Nathan, my own wiener dog, got little bits to snack on. He and the other dogs were well behaved, doing a lot of sniffing. A little girl and boy asked me if they could pet Nathan, and my doggie just flopped on his back for a belly rub. He loves crowds, all the more people to love him!
I have to go to irk early tomorrow. Regular irk is not so bad, but I have a special order for 67 dozen cookies. That’s a lot of cookies.
swampie, did you answer the call of the ice cream?
Work was interesting. We got hit with storms hard enough that for a while those of us in inbound had to evacuate the trailers we were emptying. Now that’s what I call wind and rain! Other than that, same old.
