Checked the city where my ex lives – they’re supposed to have highs below 0 F this weekend.
So those people who really like kale are literally eating rabbit food. Hmm.
I don’t mind a bit of a kale for accent, but I can’t imagine eating a whole big mess of it.
Hope this is all it is. Glad she’s feeling better.
Cannot agree more.
And there’s this. To help balance out the adulting. We’re all in this together.
Every family has their own quirks. Hope all goes well with the surgery.
It’s Friday here, and we’re below freezing until Monday or Tuesday. We started off the cold snap with approximately 4 inches of snow, which has now turned into a lovely icy coating for the sidewalks and roads. Made yesterday’s walk a bit slipppery and today I have to take the babuska cart to the store for groceries. Which means I should go see what’s on sale and see if I want to change my menu planning.
Happy Friday!
Please be veeeerrrrryy careful walking to the store, even with a babushka cart*, if there is any ice or slippery stuff. We need all your working parts to stay in good order.
*love the descriptor. Perfect mind picture.
Up, caffeinated, and shevled. Off to heave. Is it just me, or does victory make everything taste better?
In fact you have to use bottom shelf brandy for the classic Wisconsin Old Fashioned. Luckily the ABC store has Korbel on the bottom shelf($11.95 a fifth)
Woke at 4, which is when FCD said they’d be getting up this morning, so now, an hour later, they should be on the road. It snowed overnight - when I drag myself to the front windows, I will know if I need to shovel.
Main plans today are a grocery run, building the twice-baked potatoes, building quiche for supper, vacuuming my car, cleaning both bathrooms, and generally prepping for the return of my sweetie. All that before 3-ish. I’m tired already!!!
Guess I’ll get up and shower and dress and all that morning stuff. Happy Firday!!!
Morning, mumpers! It’s dry and cold here today. The weather app says “It’s now officially cold enough to put your fucking flip flops away” and promises me 0C/32F all day, mostly sunny. Well, there is a glimmer of sun out there but not much.
Mooom hope the weary travellers return safely without any further incidents. Your list of accomplishments is much better than mine - irked all day, made dinner, vegged on the sofa.
BBBoo I hope you’ve got adequate hot chocolate supplies laid in ready for all that nasty weather! It can always be improved by the addition of brandy, top or bottom shelf I’m not sure we have any brandy in the house, it’s not something either of us drinks although I used to have a bottle of cooking brandy.
Taters so sorry to hear about the headaches and dizziness, it’s always worse when you have no diagnosis and thus no clear treatment options.
gotti good to hear surgery is going ahead!
nellie fresh fruit is always a necessity here, I’m pretty much the only one who touches fruit at all. The grocery store had packs of soft figs the other day, knowing full well I can’t turn them down!
Irk beckons…two meetings today, one of them in about 10 mins so I’d better scoot off and make a cup of strong tea first. We have two temps joining us and need to work out some training for them which will be fun to do remotely. Get the kettle on, mother!
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 61 Amurrkin out and foggy, with a predicted high of 67 and probably rain. Or not. Willy-nilly seems to be a permanent state of mind for TWPTB. I need to go over to the church house to deal with some church janitor Junior Warden stuff, specifically to test the emergency lightin’ as we must make sure it works. OYKW shall tag along with me as we have decided that we shall go to the hog trough Golden Corral to take care of the need to feed. Other than that, who knows what the day may hold.
gotti hope you get the surgery scheduled soonest. I know you’ll be glad to get that done.
{{{Taters}}} that sucks! Hopefully you can find the cause of the headaches and dizziness so you can make it all go away.
Boo temps will be back in the 50s for highs around here startin’ tomorrow. Is that better?
Flyboy I like The Pogues. However, I did mean Jawja.
Now I need more caffeine and rumbly tummy wants to be fed. Then, onward into the day! Rah.
Happy Firday Y’all!
I managed to drag my carcass to the shower, then select and don attire appropriate for a run to Food Lion later. Best guess, we got between 2-3" of snow, but not nearly that much on the driveway - I can probably clear it with a broom just as easily as with a shovel. Whatever method, I’d like to give the pavement a chance to dry so it won’t be an ice slick. That’s tomorrow’s forecast - ice storm. ick.
Caffeination continues as I surf my comics. The dishwasher needs to be emptied, and today’s cooking will fill it again, so I’ll try to get all that done early. I may even try to put some order to this desk. Maybe. Or not.
FCD said he’d call around 8 - he should be into Ohio by then. I’ve made the same drive along I-70 several times, but it was in the late 70s and I know things have changed since then. Even if nothing had changed, it’s so long ago, I don’t recall how long each leg takes. He’s hoping to be home before 4 this afternoon. I just hope the interstates are clear and free of ice, especially after hearing of that awful pile-up in Texas yesterday.
Happy thoughts… happy thoughts…
Did I mention my FIL’s broken tooth? I just got off the phone and he’s set up with the dentist on Tuesday. If insurance matches up, I may just have found my new dentist also! We shall see.
Update: dishwasher emptied, tea brewed (they drink iced tea), grape drink made (they also drink grape), coffee maker cleaned, coffee and filters located and staged. I think it’s time to bundle up and shovel. Good times…
It was 20º here last night, so all the rain that fell yesterday froze. Fang was informed there was no way in hell he was driving to school, which lead to much wailing and gnashing of teeth as all three boys were sent out the door to the bus stop.
While I was having breakfast, Dr Fauci was on GMA telling us that the US should be fully vaccinated by July. Mrs Magill and I were just commenting that it’s nice to finally hear some good news. Added bonus - Fang should be safe when he heads off to UT in the fall.
We’d gotten more kale for the BR yesterday afternoon. I also picked up some broccoli crowns, because someone is getting gnawy.
I’m, glad to hear that the Mrs. is feeling better, Flyboy.
It’s super duper cold outside today and grey, grey, grey. Overlygirl is at school; overlyboy is behind me on his virtual classes. Dude was late getting out of bed, despite me poking him before I hit the road with overlygirl, so he’s all peeved and grouchy, which is appropriate since he was late to class. Oh, well. Gotta learn somehow.
There is a buttload of political BS going on at work right now. Case in point: I worked for company X when we were bought by company Z. I still work for X. I’m creating products for company Y, to which I am supposed to be moving…sometime. I’m supposed to contract products that can be sold to Z while putting them under the umbrella of company Y. In other words, I work for a company that contracts with vendors to provide services under a different company, both of which are owned by yet another company and am in the process of bidding on behalf of my company for my own company’s business.
I’m so glad it’s the weekend (almost). I’d like to not have to deal with this BS for a day or two. Or a few of my waking hours.
Just finished clearing the driveway. I discovered, to my dismay, that my boots aren’t waterproof. Note to self - before shoveling the next time, wrap feet in plastic bags.
There wasn’t a lot to clear, but I didn’t want it to freeze when the temps plummet tonight. And now I think I’ll dash to Food Lion for the few items I need to get us thru the weekend. But first, dry socks.
She’s mad. The PA basically blew her off. (I found out a PA outranks an RN (Mrs. L.A. was in her scrubs when she went in)). They never told her/showed her the results of her blood draw. She’s going to call the surgical unit today to see if she can get them. She only has two days of antibiotics left. I hope it’s enough.
I knew you did.
Rain here overnight. Not cold enough to freeze, but the outdoor cats are pissed off by the wet as well, so it’s a wash. (Sorry.) On the upside, the clouds ought to be moving out soon, meaning I shouldn’t have to deal with the rain on my grocery run this afternoon. I’m making carne guisada for dinner with friends Sunday, so I need a good chuck roast and some chilis.
Boo - This morning’s cocoa (unenhanced) was hazelnut. I actually have a bottle of Korbel in the liquor cabinet. But since I think Wisconsin Old Fashioneds are An Abomination Unto Nuggan (and the reason for Wisconsin weather - divine wrath), I’ll make myself a Manhattan after work instead.
In the meantime, I have 2 classes to teach this morning and a large orange tomcat who is insisting on laying on my keyboard this morning. Ought to be interesting (Caelan, GET OFF!!)
Stay warm and dry, everyone! Happy Firday!
I like the cut of your jib, sir. It’s original thinking like that which make you go far in this operation. I have a bottle of small batch rye that would make an excellent Manhattan.
I am the donkey that stayed sober between three bottles. There is Pikesville, Sazerac and Quarterhorse ryes in the freezer as I type. Decisions, decisions.
Currently, the temperature here in almost-Canada is 22º American. The morning news said it was 16º, but I think it’s the second or third play of an earlier broadcast. Whenever they came up with that number, the reported the wind chill down in Bellingham (25 miles south) was 1ºF. It’s a little breezy here, but not to bad. Still, it’s a mite chilly.
No snow here. I guess Seattle and south of there will get about 10 inches tonight or tomorrow. We should get our snow tomorrow, and I suspect it won’t be as much. (I hope it won’t be as much!)
Morning all. It’s cold (well 34F which is cold for North Ali-Bama) and still gloomy even with no rain forecast. Looks like another good day to be inside. I can do sloth nearly as well as swampy.
FCM, hope the driving is good for FCD. I have a couple Facebook friends that are EMT’s down in Ft. Worth, they were off duty yesterday but are still shook by the tragic accident there; I imagine their colleagues are PTSD candidate. Crossing my fingers for them.
On the good news front, my nephew’s young (10 month) bloodhound who ran away from the yard last week has been caught and returned home. Hopefully he has all his adventuring out of his system now.
gotti, best wishes.
Wizard, sounds like good judgement, especially after the Ft. Worth tragedy. Even learning to drive in Northern Ohio as I did is no guarantee you won’t have problems.
talky, I’m not sure I understand all that, but I can take XYZ and make SNAFU out of it…best wishes.
OK, need to break fast and warm up the house some, so all y’all take care.
{{{Taters family}}} That sucks about the dizzy spells.
bumba, you sound a bit like my dad with the occupational skills intersecting with your retirement hobbies. He was a machinist by trade and when he retired, set up a small, home based machine shop. He machined parts for the Auburn-Cord Deusenburg Museum in Auburn, IN. His hobby was collecting / restoring antique farm vehicles. He picked up orders from that sector, along with people restoring vintage cars as well.
seanette, did you happen to own / purchase a Mercury, Buick or Oldsmobile when you got the premature AARP application?
I’m back online (finally!). AT&T was out for home internet for ~30 hours yesterday / today. Then, once I got the text that they were back up, I wasn’t. That meant 2 hours of !@#$ing around with their phone tree and one incompetent CSR. I finally got someone who knew what they were doing and not only got things up and running, but got an appointment for the 20th to have my hardware updated.
Given the issues on Christmas and now Valentine’s weekend, I’m beginning to wonder about Easter.
Stay safe and healthy y’all!
