The Great MMP Semi-Offical List of Mumpers for this Week

AM showers they said. Showers! As I type the rain has been absofuckinglutely pouring down, at a 45 degree angle due to the high winds. Then about minutes ago it started hailing. We are getting a months worth of rain all at once, it seems. I suppose I can do my shopping tomorrow…

Babushka cart is from nellie. I survived the grocery store without any injury.

Not so lucky with the walk. Fell and landing on my right buttock and right hand. The base of my thumb is swollen about 2x normal size and hurts. Mostly able to move it normally, so it’ll just take some time to heal. Much more painful than my butt.

For the record, I got my first missive from AARP when I was in my 20s. But they sent it to my parents, some years after I was no longer a resident. Don’t remember if it was with my maiden or married name.

Should settle on the couch and veg. Got a multi-vitamin capri sun with bison grass vodka. A bit sweet. Decided I don’t need any other painkiller for the moment. Might change my mind in the morning, but that’s then.

Have a gooooooooooood evening.

I may have made a strategic error in ordering a fish & chips plate for each of us. That was more food than I normally eat for lunch. Next time, we’re splitting a plate.

Damn, those fries were good.

They should be here in two anna half hours - between 3:30 and 4 eastern time. I got what I needed at Food Lion, and moved a few things in the garage so there’s more room to open the car doors. Then I assembled a dozen ready-to-be-twice-baked spuds, wrapped them, and stuck them in the freezer. The small parts that I cut off have been cheesed and baconed and I’ll broil them as appetizers. I also prepped the ham and swiss for the quiches, and the pie crusts are on the counter coming to room temp. They need to be baked before the filling is added.

I got some strawberries at Food Lion - I’m going to clean them and if they survive snacking, they’ll go on the cheesecake I plan for dessert later in the week. Or maybe tomorrow. My menu plan isn’t cast in bronze.

Anyway, time for a little breather. Maybe a beverage also. Definitely time for a break.

I used to love going to Ye Olde King’s Head in Santa Monica when I lived down there. I used to get the King Size Fish & Chips, which had two pieces of fish. The last couple of years I went there, I got the Queen Size. The pieces of fish are large!.

(There’s some leftover homemade fish’n’chips (haddock), that I made Sunday, in the fridge.)

The snow stopped, and it’s calm out there, but it’s literally the calm before the storm. Flyboy, glad you didn’t get any snow (yet). As you said, we’re slated to get 8-10 inches tonight into tomorrow. “Snow could be heavy at times.” Why, you don’t say, NWS. How else do you get 10 inches in 12 hours? [Looks around.] Where did that snark come from?

The chocolate chip cookies came out fine. Of course, how do they not? It’s like someone saying Kool-Aid never turns out well for them. I ate two. Only a few dozen to go. I’ll probably cram some into my freezer. Don’t know about the rest. I think I’ll make bread today. I’m out of sugar, but I have honey, which works well. It’s an icy mess out there, so I don’t know if I’ll walk. I’m not afraid of falling; I’m afraid of bad drivers.

Dice, I’m so sorry you fell. I hope your thumb isn’t broken–I don’t think being able to move it is a reliable test–and that it’ll heal fast.

Moooom, your updates make me feel like I’m right there with you, prepping for the big homecoming. I love it.

Flyboy, that’s ridiculous that your wife, an RN, didn’t get the blood test results from the PA. I hope she gets 'em via the surgical team.

MetalMouse, so glad your nephew’s dog is back. I bet he’s an adorable pup.

Speaking of updates - FCD just called me - he’s on the DC beltway, later than he’d hoped to get there, especially on a Friday before a 3-day weekend. I hope it’s not too crazy. Best case - they’ll get here by 4:30. Otherwise, who knows. I’ll start building the quiches around 4.

Which means I should bake the crusts right now. Off to the kitchen with me then.

I went to the hardware store to get one of those tank-top propane heaters. We had a $10 coupon for purchases over $50, so the $52-something dingus was only $42-something. Unfortunately, it doesn’t have a piezo-electric igniter. I’d just assumed it would. Oh, well.

I drove the MG. With the top on, since it was about 25ºF. The heater works pretty well… once it starts heating. I drove to the propane company to pay the bill, then went to the hardware store where I remembered I forgot the coupon. So I drove home and got it. By the time I left again, the heater was heating. It was by no means toasty, but it kept the inside of the car comfortable with just a sweater on.

Think we had a Ford Tempo at that time (ca 1997-8).

Came home early today due to very sore throat. Why do grocery stores no longer seem to carry apricot nectar? That stuff is GREAT when your throat hurts. Hmmph.

The Instant Pot is again earning its counter space. A dozen hard-cooked eggs are in the sink full of VERY cold water. Officially, they need 5 minutes of this. I’m giving them at least 10 before they head for the fridge. IP is now brewing me a nice cooked chicken and lots of broth for the unhappy throat. I probably really should go ahead and get a second inner pot to make cooking sprees like what I tend to do on weekends more convenient. It’s only $20.

The Jungle has delivered the socks I ordered yesterday. Must gather the outgoing ones for conveyance to the dumpster when DH gets home (one drawback of buying multi-packs, once one gets worn out the others aren’t far behind). Dishwasher is swishing away, must move laundry soon.

Howdy Y’all! I did stuff over to the church house and then we went to the hog trough Golden Corral. We et at two o’ clock and I am still so full! Definitely no need to feed this evenin’. However, all this talk of fish ‘n chips has given me a gnawin’ and a cravin’, so we shall most likely have that tomorrow from somewhere or other.

MOOOOOOM hope FCD and the 'rents are there by now.

AARP no longer bothers ether one of us with mass mailin’s. Maybe it’s because we’re in our second childhoods.

Nettie, I love my Instant Pot. I made a very good chili in it last night.

Ouch dicey!

The groceries are bought, the BBQ with the drive thru catered supper and am settling down with a warm little dog in my lap, for the time being. Once I’m done internettin’, I’ll play around in the studio.

With that much swelling in your hand, keep open to the possibility that you dislocated (most likely) or broke something and you’ll want to get it checked before all the docs close up shop Saturday. I did that once, fell in my house, rammed my hand into the baseboard but didn’t think I broke anything cause I could waggle my hand at my husband and say “see, everything moves, it’s ok”. Everything moved because it was all in tiny pieces and displaced. [this was years prior to nursing school-I was a sociologist speaking then]. 9 breaks, surgery, bolts, wires and a Frankenstein cast followed. So get it checked out if it isn’t back to normal tout suite. Til then, the usual, ice packs, rest, elevate the hand as much as you can. Elevating your butt is much harder unless you’re in Cirque de Soleil.

How about if you don’t, just for us? So we won’t worry.

One cup of hot chocolate down. Heading out for my next one. Debating whether it’s so early in the evening for the brandy…7pm my time.

OK, OK, I didn’t. Can’t have my Mumper friends worried. I stayed home and talked to my sister, then got bread started. I decided to make baguettes. I have the baguette pan for resting and baking, so it’s a lot easier to get good loaves. I love crusty bread.

Boo, that sounds like a truly awful experience. How long did it take to get things back to normal?

red, wish I had a little warm dog on my lap. Sounds perfect.

Me too. It sounds delightful. My kitties are rarely lap kitties (unless I really need then to not be there)~they’d rather sleep all in a pile 2 or 3 at a time, preferably laying inside my coat in the rocking chair or on the down comforter in the bedroom.

I was in a cast for two months, then a brace and physical therapy for another 2 months. Fortunately it was my left hand so I could still write and sort of dress myself, drink coffee, all the important stuff. I remember waking up from the surgery thinking my hand had been dipped in boiling oil (must have been the book I was reading at the time). The nurse came along and gave me some la-la-la drugs in my IV and I no longer cared. I was young and had a husband who cheerfully did what I couldn’t so the time passed fast and the only permanent thing was I could longer snap my fingers on that hand. Had to give up singing sets with rock stars.

Laundered . It’s cold and occasionally rainy, and “Princess Pretty Paws” can’t even. Having a Winsconsin Old Fashioned, while the paprika chicken cooks.

A good choice!

Until the 16lbs. bowling ball cuts off the circulation in your legs. :cat:

Ouch, Dicey! like everybody said, keep and eye on it.

{{{{Taters}}}} vertigo sucks.

And it did, too.

I sympathize. It’s hard to find the right dr.

I spent the day goggling at the tv and posting cat pictures to soothe myself. Tomorrow we should get rain again.

Off to eat popcorn and watch a movie,

We had a couple of Manhattans with dinner (we ate out). Now we’re having reverse Manhattans: Two parts bourbon and one part vermouth. And we have bourbon cherries. Eighteen bucks a jar, but better than the $3 maraschino cherries.

So if I go to the Pet Pictures thread will it be replete with your kitties?
