The Great MMP Semi-Offical List of Mumpers for this Week

Thanks for the good wishes. Thumb/hand is much better this morning. Swelling has greatly reduced and is less painful. I can even snap my fingers on both hands.

Found some other sore muscles in my back and arm, and already told hubby I’m not going for a walk today. Will resume tomorrow, when the sun’s supposed to make an appearance.

Today is baking (lemon poppy seed bread and date pecan bars (also known as chinese chews)) and gathering tax papers, with fondue for lunch. Just waiting for hubby to finish his shower so he can make the lattes.

Happy Saturday!

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. It’s 32 and raining, so it should be a joy to drag “Princess Pretty paws” out before I go.

Dicey, glad you’re slightly better today.

I thought that was a regular Manhattan?

The weary travelers arrived safely. We supped, we chatted, his folks showered and crashed early, I was next, but now I’ve been awake since 3-ish. Ugh. FCD was/is exhausted, but I’ll probably get up shortly.

I’ve got an eye exam this morning, and Daughter and Roxy are coming for lunch if the weather cooperates. SIL might or might not come with them. We shall see how his social anxiety is today.

Supper will be corned beef and cabbage and veggies. Oh, and there’s some dirty laundry from the travelers. Exciting day ahead, no doubt.

Happy Saturday!!

And now I’m up, showered, dressed, and breakfasting. Sleep was not in the cards this morning. The ice storm has not yet started, which is a good sign. Depending upon which site you choose to believe, there’s a 60-90% chance of freezing rain later this morning and into the afternoon. Or not. I guess we’ll see when we see.

I forgot one chore in my earlier post - it’s critter-fountain-cleaning-day!!!
Onward!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 47 Amurrkin out and rainin’ with a predicted high of 53 and rain all day and all day tomorrow. We have a FLASH FLOOD WATCH in effect. Not surprised by that as we have had a ton o’ rain the past few days. Don’t know what the day will have in store. I have a gnawin’ and a cravin’ for fish ‘n chips but no desire to swim drive anywhere to take care of that. I’ve taken two containers of homemade chikin noodle soup outta da freezer. I’m thinkin’ that and cornbread will make for a good sup on an icky day. So, I’m guessin’ major league sloth will make up the day.

Dicey glad the hand and thumb are better today.

MOOOOOOM glad the travelers got there safe and sound. Sounds like you should have an inside, warm, and dry day. ICK!

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Sattidy Y’all!

Happy saturday everyone. It’s a glorious 6 F outside, but at least it’s not snowing. The morning smoothie is a little thin since I’m out of bananas, so a grocery trip is in order today. All the talk of corned beef has made me wanting some, but I really ought to use the chicken in the freezer. Can you make corned chicken?

Dicey I also am finding new aches and pains, and I didn’t even fall over. Glad you’re doing better.

Good on FCD for all the safe driving.

Cheers, all, and have a great day!

nellie, the baguettes sound wonderful for a cold winter day. I haven’t made bread in years, given the size of my kitchen and being a diabetic who lives alone. Sometimes I miss the zen of it.

Glad the in-laws and FCD arrived and got settled in Moooooom.

Last evening, I accidentally spilled a glass of tea on my keyboard. :open_mouth: It was toast. :unamused: Fortunately, I had another one in the closet with my old desktop that was able to be subbed. I don’t know why I haven’t pulled this one out before; it’s a much nicer one. I will likely order another inexpensive one to keep as a backup, given that I’ve done this before. :stuck_out_tongue:

On today’s agenda: finish the laundry (towels are in the wash now and only one load of clothes need to be washed), put away stuff from the recent studio project, do some organization, work on a project and :gasp: dust. Supper will be poke roast, miso-ginger sweet potatoes, spinach-mushroom quinoa, fried apples and cornbread.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Morning all. Sorry for not posting last night but I found a sight (notalwaysright.com) that entertained my little brain cells for hours last night. And today I need to dress for soccer and spend 5 hours there, so that should take care of the bulk of the day.

Have read all but absorbed only some, so hugs, tears and no negative waves to all. Have a good one.

DOH! You are correct. I was confused because I usually make Vieux Carrés at home.

I opened the blinds on the front door this morning, and it’s Fabrique Nationale snowing. :frowning: I’ll need to sweep a path to the wood stack, sweep a space in the catio to put it, and bring some inside of the house. And I need to sweep a path to the car so I can get the bag of de-icer out of it (it’s been in there since December).

Out of bed 45 minutes ago, and two cups of coffee. One more and I should start waking up.

What is this sweeping of snow? I got 30" last week. The piles at the end of the driveway were about 6 feet tall. Had to shovel out a space in the back yard for the dog . It’s now compressed down to “only” 16".

My visions of corned beef were dashed, none to be found at either Aldi or the regular grocery store. However, I do have provisions laid in for the week and will now attempt to corn some chicken.

I see that I’m chopped liver, now that I don’t post here much, and as I wasn’t included in any catergory in the OP.

We only have about two or three inches of snow so far, and it’s dry. Sweeping is easier than using a shovel (which is out in the shed).

I had a couple of scrambled egg, medium cheddar, bacon, and Tabasco burritos on low-carb tortillas, and a V8 for breakfast. Mrs. L.A. had scrambled eggs with cheddar, bacon, and a biscuit with jam.

I need to go for a drive in a bit to get some things I need for wine-braised short ribs tomorrow.

Out my back windows: snow is falling gently, silently through the trees, and lines from Frost are drifting through my mind. Out my front window: people are shoveling and rocking their cars to get them unstuck, and expletives are ringing through the air.

It’s supposed to stop snowing late this afternoon, Glad you got off so easily so far, flyboy. Sweeping beats shoveling any day. I don’t miss shoveling one iota.

Red, I wish you could share the baguettes with me.

Mooooom, glad the in-laws and FCD got there safe and sound and hope they get to see your daughter and Roxie today. Also hope there can be gentle conversation about their future at some point in the visit.

VanGo (Is that your official nickname now? I lost track. If wrong, please forgive.), do you have a smoothie every morning? Do you find it keeps you from feeling hungry until lunch? I love smoothies, but even with protein and fiber in them, I get hungry later on.

I’m off to look up a recipe for Vieux Carrés, as I’ve never had one. Then I’m going to see what kept MetalMouse so engrossed last night.

Up and busy early this morning. Fed myself (5 cheese quesadilla with ham), the cats, weed whacked the back yard, filled the bird feeders, did a load of laundry and got the carne guisada con papas for tomorrow’s dinner started. Of course, I neglected to glove up during prep, so when I rubbed my nose just now I teared up something fierce. Now on to housekeeping and getting the dishes done.

Flyboy, that still isn’t a Manhattan. Which is made with rye, dammit! Yes, this is a hill I’m willing to have other people die on, because I’m right!

Baker - You are in all categories in our hearts.

The weather here today is partly cloudy but quite nice outside. A real change from yesterday morning. You people with snow and ice can have it. Snow belongs on mountains far away and ice belongs in my glass, preferably under spirits.

The house is vacuumed, and the brood are doing their dusting. I now have enough fur to build a new rabbit.

Off to read a book and keep the laundry moving.

nellie (I dunno if that’s my official nick, I’m cool with it) I do have a smoothie most mornings. A 'nanna, some yoghurt, some juice, about 6 strawberries, and some ice. It definitely keeps me going until lunch, unless it’s a big build day in the shop, when I’ll have a mid morning snack. Well, unless I forget to eat lunch entirely, which happens about twice a week.

Read your post wrong. Thought the lines from Frost were:

Out my front window
People are shoveling
And rocking their cars
And expletives ring through the air

You’re still tops in my book, Baker, but I don’t remember your nickname, sorry.

Glad FCD got back safe and sound. I don’t remember much else.

Had a bit of excitement this morning. We’ve had freezing rain all day yesterday and last night, The sky is still leaking. Our Japanese plum tree came down during the night and was laying on top of our internet cable, that Ziply Fiber just replaced after the big wind storm last month. Fortunately, they had left a bunch of extra cable coiled up on the pole and it just pulled that loose, and it didn’t take out the power line, which it could have. We got out our lops and chainsaw-onnna-stick and cut it up. A couple of our friends happened by and helped. We had a good time. We’re going to see if #2Grandson wants to make some money hauling all this wood to the transfer station. I suppose I could do it myself after all the snow and ice melts next week, but I don’t wanna. 'Sides, he has our old truck.

Now it’s BLTs for lunch.

Later.

Aww, Cupcakes, we still lurves ya, even if you shun us…

I did 3 loads of laundry today, got my new glasses ordered (near vision getting worse), and while I started the corned beef in the slow cooker, it was cooking way too slow, so it’s in a pot on the stove top now. Roxy was here when I got back from the eye doc and she’s been going at 90 MPH ever since, except while we had lunch.

Mostly, it’s a lazy day, rainy, cold, ick. Stoopit winter.

I want to taste test these too, as well as the various regular and reverse Manhattans. So is a an early fall Mumpers cocktail festival going to be happening in a state park cabin near us?

@Die_Capacitrix, glad your hurt hand passed the snapping fingers test. You are officially discharged from Mumperville virtual home bound care. Take it safe in future adventures.
