The Happy Cheap Chocolate Day MMP

Spousal unit has returned, phone in hand. They didn’t ask him to prove it was his phone, which I found to be odd. Then again, a white-haired geezer with a cane probably isn’t your typical phone thief. Anyway, he’s relieved.

The rain slacked off pretty early this morning, so, after KP was done, I trimmed back some of the dead growth of the perennials in pots and made a list for the annuals that I need to get this year. The peppermint is perking up pretty well and the rest of the herbs are coming along. I’m thinking petunias and marigolds with maybe some zinnias for the floral end.

I got some more organization done in the studio, finished laundry and made the bed before taking off to get groceries. Then we went to the dog park. Nelson was the smallest of the small dogs there, but he kept everybody in line. :stuck_out_tongue: Fat Mo’s fixed supper (a Mo burger with cheese, grilled onions and mushrooms and chili sauce and some sweet potato fries…burrrrrrrrrp!).

I need some advice/suggestions. Tomorrow my daughter and SIL are going to help me file my taxes. Since my traumatic brain injuries in 2017 this type of task has been challenging well neigh onto impossible for me so I’m lucky they offered.

Anyhow, do any of you have experience or opinions about which one stop efile outfit is best? Easiest to use? Most reliable? Which one I should go with?

I hate hate hate adulting. Just saying.

Thanks all.

Evening all. Nappage lasted nearly 2 hours, I was awake for the last 45 minutes, just lacked the ambition to roll out of bed until the phone rang…and then my kidneys got my attention. Have just finished dinner, so stuffed until Eating Out time tomorrow (Longhorn Steakhouse is on the list).

It actually dried out here about 11am and has been real nice all day. Hopefully that will last into the week.

BBBoo, I use Turbo Tax–I have no idea if it is the best or not, but it will walk you through each step and I’ve never had a problem filing them (except this year, didn’t print out my 2019 taxes so I didn’t know what my net amount was from then, which apparently is needed if you file electronically).

VanGo One, Bureaucracy Nil. Have fun.

FCM, glad FCD was able to recover his phone. So easily it could have ‘walked off’ with someone.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN 'Tis 59 Amurrkin out and foggy with a predicted high of 81 and partly to mostly N.O.S. for the day. Yestiddy was a day of much rain until late afternoon when Mr. Sun dropped by to say howdy. The big plan of the day is deheathenization followed by a stop at Longhorn’s (Hi, MetalMouse!) for N.O.L. Beyond that, I foresee much sloth as we are old, retired drains on society and can sloth as much as we want.

Nettie sorry about the tire woes.

MOOOOOOM glad FCD was able to retrieve his phone. A geezer cellphone theft ring might be fun!

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then purtification for deheathenization must commence.

Happy Sunday Y’all!

There’s an advantage to plague-days dining out - sparsely populated restaurant, so fewer potential thieves and (I’m guessing) they’re quicker to clean the few available tables so they can get more folks in. Plus his is a black phone on a black table, so not particularly obvious. Certainly not like my bright red phone!

Bwahahahah! Whack 'em with a cane: “Quit playin’ with that thing at the table and pay attention to your date/family/friends!!!” A new Hollywood blockbuster: Geezer Gang

My poor geezer had a bad night. He woke me at 2 of the AM when he fell in the bathroom! :open_mouth: Fortunately, he fell towards the doorway, so he didn’t hit his head on any porcelain or walls. Still, that’s the 3rd fall since Firday. I’m glad he’s going to see the doc tomorrow. And I think it’s convinced him that he needs the cane in the house, too. He actually has several from way back when he had knee surgery, so I need to plant them in strategic locations, just in case.

I am concerned about going to Daughter’s, tho. There are 6 (I think) steps up to her porch, and stairs are especially hard for him. We’ll deal with it as we must. And I’m worried about his mental state - he feels like he’s letting everyone down, especially his parents. I understand why he feels that way, but I don’t know what to say to him.

It was raining pretty steadily overnight but it’s stopped now. If it warms up, I may move some more lilies later. We’ll just see how it goes.

And so begins the end of my weekend. Happy Sunday!

Afternoon, mumpers! It’s a much nicer-looking day out there than yesterday after the snow and hail storm. Weather app says “Psst! Hey, fucker! Wanna buy some fucking sunshine?” and promises me 6C/43F up to 7C/45F and mostly cloudy. That would explain the sun, right?

Moooom sorry to hear about FCD’s poorly knees, but good to know that he’s finally decided it’s time to see a doc about it. Cancelling the FL trip is definitely in his best interests, that drive would have been awful if he was in pain, and he can’t be of much help to anyone if he’s using a cane.

Nothing much going on here today, I have to get the vacuum cleaner out and pick up all the cat litter that the mogs have managed to spread all round the house. I should do a workout this afternoon, and it’s my turn to cook dinner so I’ve planned that out on my WW app thingie.

Gyms open again tomorrow which means I can go and visit the shiny new one I joined last November before they’d even kitted it out. I’ll go and see what it’s like then make a decision on which membership to scrap. I still have a membership at another one, I was considering ditching that one in favour of the new place, but the new one is further away and thus more hassle to get to although they have much more parking available.

I may have to go back to campus on Tuesday, we’re currently doing one day a week in the office. Given the fact that the roads are pretty much back to normal, I’ll be using the bus and trains instead of driving because it takes less time than taking the car. Not looking forward to it much as it also means having to take everything I need for the day (including the laptop) and then hauling it back home again. Doesn’t seem worth the bother when we’ve got no teaching in our building, no indication of when any in-person teaching will take place, and the students have only got three more weeks of teaching after they “return” from easter break. Except they weren’t on campus anyway so it all seems kind of redundant.

Ho hum. I’ll have another cuppa then!

Morning all. Got up about 7am and immediately started the laundry. Three loads ought to do it today, albeit they’ll be large ones. Newspaper has been retrieved from the lawn, so that’s most of my morning activity. Heading for 73F and N.O.S. all day.

Boo Fae, I’ve thought about joining a gym (got 5-6 nearby), just not so sure how much use I’d make of it. Coaching youth soccer 4-5 times a week usually is enough exercise.

FCM, hope they can do something for FCD’s knees…falls at our age are serious things. Don’t know what to say either–except how much you love him and want him around forever…

OK, need to continue waking up. All y’all have a great Sunday.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. It’s drizzly, but Gordie actually went out and did his business. Time for breakfast, then cleaning.

I use Turbotax. It’s not hard, and it’s free(also true for discount gigolos on Craigslist. )

Good, I can keep my streak of not going alive.

FCM, I am sorry to read about FCD’s falls and knees. I am sorry to read, too, that he feels like he’s letting people down. He isn’t and I certainly hope he brings up his mental state with the doctor. Yes, I know he’s going for the knee, but your mental state plays a part in your physical health.

I had vague plans for going up and seeing the grandkids yesterday, but the husband didn’t sleep well and actually went back to bed until 1:00 in the afternoon, so that put the kibosh on my planned visit. I was annoyed, but if he doesn’t sleep he’s super cranky.

I didn’t do much of anything yesterday. I completed a few menial indoor chores and that’s about it. I need to get cracking on my taxes. I usually get them done in March, but I have seriously slacked on that this year. I too, use Turbo Tax.

Temps are supposed to get into the 50s today, so maybe I’ll get back out in the yard to knock out some weeding. We are supposed to warm up to the 70s this coming week, but we shall see. I think I might ask for Friday off. I have an 8 hour time off award that I need to burn up.

Time for another cup of coffee! I allowed myself to lounge around in bed until 6:00 am! That’s sleeping in big time for me and now I’m slightly annoyed because I narrowed the window of my allotted goof-off time!

Back when I was still doing my own taxes, I used TaxAct, but I’ve also used TurboTax in the past. I don’t know that there’s a whole lot of difference between the programs, as far as ease of use and getting accurate returns done.

FCD has resorted to using his walker - he thinks he pulled something in his left knee when he fell last night. I’m so glad he’s got an appointment tomorrow. Plus the orthopedist is in the first floor, so no issue with stairs. I wish I could go but even if I wasn’t wrangling Roxy, they don’t allow non-patients in due to plague.

swampy, would the geezer cell phone theft ring limit themselves to flip phones? :d&r:

Sorry about the tire seanette. Hopefully, it just went through the tread so it can be repaired easily.

Moooooom, that’s scary about FCD’s fall. Like taters, I think it would be good to discuss the accompanying feelings with the doc when he goes. The doc likely either has or can suggest resources to help.

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and getting ready to put supper in the crock (beef and barley stew ‘cause I had a gnawin’ and a cravin’). I’ll deheathenate virtually at 10:30 and other than that, a trip to pick up scrips that weren’t ready the other day, exchange a CO2 cartridge for the Soda Stream and the usual Sunday chores.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Been up 20 minutes and have had one coffee. I may be able to type.

I built a ‘crate’ (bottom, top, front, & back) for the ejection seat yesterday after breakfast, and cut down a couple of wardrobe boxes to make a box for it. It was about 15 o’clock before I got down to FedEx, where they frightened me. First, they thought it was too big. A guy measured it, and I was two inches under the limit. *whew* Then I was told it was too heavy to deliver to the guy’s house. Fortunately, there’s a FedEx place three miles from the buyer’s home. They’ll hold the seat there for him. The shipping weight was 129 pounds, 2 ounces. I was able to get it into the Jeep myself, so the buyer shouldn’t have a problem.

I only charged the buyer $400 for shipping, based on my faulty estimate of the weight. FedEx charged me $450. Then there was $42 for the wardrobe boxes, $83 for the lumber and bubble wrap, and a couple new ratchet straps I had. Leaving out the ratchet straps, shipping was $575. ‘I don’t blame people for their mistakes, but I expect them to pay for them.’ This mistake cost me $175. eBay charged me $250 in fees, so my ‘total cost to sell’ was $425.

It went through the edge in a non-repairable position, but we were able to find an affordable replacement.

I’m so glad he has an appt tomorrow. A big positive for me when I went after a bad fall that ended my NFL wide receiver career was that the orthopedist could do the cortisone shots intrajoint and within a few days that made all the difference pain wise. Didn’t even need pain meds once the shot settled in. That pain relief lasted for the months needed for the shredded parts to heal (but the team never took me off injured waiver). Using a walker for a few weeks allowed me to off-load weight, which also helped the pain and healing. The walker/cane assist is the engineering part.

Let me know if you want my take on knee replacements-hint:it’s pro, sooner rather than later. I’ve been nurse to a hundred of them. Chances are strong at least one is in my future.

Both of his parents have had theirs done, as has my youngest sis, and right now, he’s already psyched up for knee replacement. I think the multiple falls really spooked him. I was surprised, but pleased, when he asked me to get his walker. He said he feels more stable with that rather than the cane. And in the past, injections didn’t seem to help, tho they were in his back, not his knee. We’ll see what the doc says.

We’ve already developed a plan to get his computers from the shop to my desk, and I’ll move my computer to a table on the other side of the room. He’s got 2 CPUs and 3 monitors and he’s got a big design/analysis project about to hit soon. He does NOT need to be hobbling the 100’ across the yard, especially since there’s no bathroom out there. I’ll be fine with my 2 monitors on a table. I’ll just need to get Daughter and SIL to come help us make the move and get it all set up again.

Meanwhile, I’m just back in from transplanting a bunch of lilies and a few coneflowers. I’ve also got a bunch of black-eyed susans in the back yard that I’d like to move to the front - later this week. I’m done with manual labor for today, because I am.

Hello, all. I am typing this on my new iPad, which I had to buy because my 5-month-old laptop crashed while updating software. I’ve been in computer purgatory since—hours on the phone with computer-savvy son and Apple support, plus a long session at the Apple Store at the Tacoma Mall (30 miles—friend drove me), where they wiped out all data and couldn’t reinstall Big Sur. They’re running diagnostics. So far, not looking good. Blyboy said get another Apple device as backup, so here I am. But can’t download apps due to another issue. Not a happy Mumper just now.

FCM, sorry about FCD’s fall. I can understand his feeling down. I’m guessing he’s not the type to share feelings with docs, but if he can get a detailed prognosis that’s encouraging, that’d help, right?

Boo, I use TurboTax. Get the mid-level one, and if you have issues, a human will guide you through each step. I’ve had zero issues.

Will post more later. I used iPads quite a bit while teaching. Still hate typing on ‘em, and I’m finding it tiring.

I hate posting from my tablet (it’s a Samsung Galaxy, not and iPad, but still) - I use a stylus, but it’s still not as easy as touch-typing. On the other hand, it’s something.

We had an early supper - leftover sliced poke heated up in mushroom-and-onion gravy, crinkle fries cooked in the air fryer, and broccoli from the steamer. We’ll do DQ a little later, just because.

I’m hoping I get a good night’s sleep, since I have to get up before the butt-crack of dawn to fetch the RoxStar. It’s going to be a bit cooler tomorrow than it was today, but I think it’ll still be nice enough to have some outside time. I may even be nice and take her to the playground next to her Mama’s school right about quitting time. We shall see.

Howdy Y’all! We deheatenated, had N.O.L. at Longhorn’s (lurve their Flo’s filet!), achieved nappage, and I have hauled the biiiiiiiiiiiiiig trash can all the way down to the road for pickup tomorrow. I don’t know how I keep up such a fast paced life!

MOOOOOOM sorry about FCD’s fall. Glad he’s usin’ the walker and hope he gets over the feelin’ of lettin’ everybody down. Truth is, the best thing he can do for not just himself, but for everyone, is to take care of himself.

Nellie I like iPads, but like you, I do not like to type on 'em. I am far too fumble fingered.

red flip phones are good for beatin’ people over the haid, but a nice, hefty full-sized is best for throwin’ at folks. as it packs more of a wallop. :stuck_out_tongue:

Thanks~I went with Turbo Tax rather than Gigolos R Us. Was easy and will be even easier next year now that I’ve waded through all the deductions questions once. I paid a little extra and let them submit the state return too. My sanity is worth preserving. Dicey enough as it is. Theoretically I’m getting a refund from both the federalist and the great state of Nebraska. I’ll believe it when it shows up. You’ll hear the squeal of relief all the way to both coasts and to my mumper friend’s lairs across the pond.
