The Heat Is On-A Start Of Summer MMP

Since I’m the first one to arrive in our area, I end up chatting with the couple who clean our offices. They’re nice enough, but a bit weird. This morning, the woman told me that Obama said, when he was in college, that he was going to be president one day. Then I got this “knowing” look that suggested it was all a conspiracy.

I now know more about her than I need to know. Regardless of your political leanings, if you believe conspiracy theories, I really don’t want to talk to you. Maybe I should start coming to work later…

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Closing shift tonight.

But then you’ll miss hearing about how the Illuminati are controled by The Giant Space Ants[sup][sup]TM[/sup][/sup].

I could always move in with you, doggio, if you think Gordie and Smokey would get along

Well he does love cats. Occasionally in an inappropriate way.

We’re a quiet bunch today.

I took a short nap, now I’m back up and back to irk. Sah-son isn’t too happy but I told him suck it up. I’ve pulled out the To Do List and I want this shit done. Quite a few won’t take too long, like clean out the bath tub drain and change the furnace filter - and while he’s down there run some water into the sink. That’s not more than 10 minutes and 3 things off the list.
The hardest ones for me are waiting for return phone calls, that means I have to carry my phone around with me and I always forget it somewhere. I wish companies would answer their damn phones when you call and not make you wait for a call back.

Just finished lunch. It’s been a busy morning, but I found out some of the problems I’m having aren’t me - they’re the old models I have to use to make my drawings. So at least there, I don’t feel like a total rock.

I also got to check my first few drawings today for the new kid. It’s obvious he wasn’t taught drafting as part of his engineering curriculum, making basic mistakes like putting the dimensions on the part itself rather than off to the side. But he’s pretty sharp and he makes himself lots of little notes, so he’s learning.

I also learned some new stuff myself. yay me!

And let’s not forget the call from “Hannah” at card services. I almost never answer my cell if I don’t recognize the number, but this was a local number (most likely spoofed) so I picked up. Damned thieves!!

The heat is not on…the air conditioning is on! It’s getting hot out there, and regrettably, it’s looking like we’ll be flirting with triple digits on the day of DH’s memorial, which is being held outside.

What on earth will I wear? Not that I have a suit or anything fancier than a polo shirt, but A: It’s going to be HOT, and B: I probably should dress nicer than a t-shirt and shorts, even if that is my default appearance.

Today’s project is to print a bunch of photos of DH and mount them on foamcore.

Up and becoming caffeinated. Hubby is away at conference and I stayed up way too late. Not sure if that’s because I need a minder or I missed him. Maybe both. :stuck_out_tongue:

I thought it was Giant Space Lizards[sup][sup]TM[/sup][/sup].:smack:

I shall shortly commence the packing. Wheeeeeeee.

I took a vacation day.

We are chipping away at the list.

We didn’t get to finish outside before it started to rain.
It got so dark and windy, and the rain just poured. I noticed a place where the rain is spilling over the side of the gutter, so another thing added to the list.

Sah-son went down to change the furnace filter and found a wet spot on the floor. The pipe leading to the outside faucet is dripping. He turned the water off and patched the leak with SUGRU https://sugru.com/. We’ll let it dry for 24 hours, turn the water back on and see what happens. Another thing added to the list, if it works I can cross it off, otherwise I guess I need a plumber.
He still has to go down to change the filter because that side of the basement doesn’t have a light, and with the rain it was too dark for him to see.

The power just went off, I’m surprised I didn’t lose this post.
Now it’s back on.

W00t! on the new gig, nettie!

Yay for sunny and Pooka!
I think I may have found new digs. All I have to do is pass the background check and hand them a check to move in. It’s about five miles from irk (I will love sleeping in a little longer in the mornings) but in the opposite direction as I really wanted to move. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Gotti - do you have any silk shirts? That would work for heat and the occasion I would think. You could go traditional (plain white or black, short sleeve or long) or something more in keeping with your DH. My DH has a nice Hawaiian shirt that is a silk jacquard that is a black on black weave. Don’t know if that would suit you?

Get a pair of khaki pants in a quick dry, heat buffering fabric (See Duluth Trading Company for ideas). You’ll look presentable. They may even have black, if that’s what you want to wear.

I think the important thing is that you dress in a way that makes sense to you and would make sense to your DH. Don’t worry about wearing a suit to meet somebody else’s sensibilities. You’re not there for them. I hope this helps. Take care. This heat makes everything that extra bit harder.

Howdy all! At the airport waiting for my flight home. Came to the airport extra early but I am at the gate and just killing time.

Good news Sunny and Nettie

Safe travels back Butters.

Must tear myself away from computer. I am definitely procrastinating.

Yay for new gigs and doggies without tumors! I have an interview for a job I think I would really like, so that makes my day seem much brighter! That and a handful of ibuprofen cause I hurt.

Yup, he also won a limo ride (well, he was chauffeured, rode in the back, & had a man in uniform get the door for him) & a photo shoot; primarily a front & side picture. Not sure what he did to “win” these wonnerful prizes, though. Not something I can ask through official channels, either.

::Takes trout from doggio.::
::Guides him back to booster seat.::
::Hands doggio crayons.:: :stuck_out_tongue:

Are you referring to yourself in the third person again?

Howdy Y’all! Day two of irk has been survived. Actually not a bad at all. When OYKW arrives dindin prep shall begin. The only time consumin’ part of that will be the steak since ‘twill be chikin fried. Grilled would be easier but I got me a gnawin’ and a cravin’ for chikin fried steak.

Butters I trust you’re back safe and sound.

{{{gotti}}} my southern upbringin’ says wear a suit because that’s just the way it’s done. However, outside and triple digits says ain’t no way that will happen. Go with what makes you comfy. A silk or linen shirt and light colored khakis are very presentable and somewhat comfy on a hot day. Then again, DH knows the tshirt and shorts you, so if you want to do that, why not. Anybody who would be aghast can go climb a ladder and get over it, say.

Rain stopped, not it’s hot and muggy.

Quilt has been washed and dried.
I found another house key, which is good because I bent one, which left us with only one key. Now we have two. I still want to get a few more made, but not so much of a rush now.

Still chipping away at the list.
I’m glad I took the day off, no stress with irk and I feel like I’m making progress.

Hooray for jobs and not-sick doggies, safe travels to the wanderers, and much beer, pizza, and sympathy for the movers.

I’ve had a cow-irker arrested at work before - nice guy, actually, but he was selling a little something extra from behind the front desk, and the local constables took issue with that.

Took The Boy with me today as I ran errands. He now knows where the good/cheap produce market is - and admits that he wouldn’t have stopped by on his own accord. It looks like an old, falling down barn in a marginal neighborhood (mostly because it’s an old falling down barn in a marginal neighborhood,) but the produce is glorious and fresh and seasonal and 1/3 the prices at the Saturday farmers market 6 blocks away. (Plus, the owners do little things like donating their surplus to the local pantry, and serving up a free lunch every Wednesday. And, though they don’t brag about themselves, I know for a fact that several of the elderly residents in their neighborhood receive a little bag of eggs and fruit and vegetables and bowls of Wednesday soup a couple of times a month. They’re the kind of business that has quietly earned my custom, even if the prices weren’t so reasonable.) The Boy expressed his gratitude by treating me to a butter brickle ice cream cone - yum!

Continuing to add to the stockpile for the upcoming move for The Boy and Friends. My friend didn’t have any “spare” $$ for a formal graduation gift for her honorary nephew, so she did even better: she gave him free reign of her stockpile. He got a nice vacuum, a really nice desk chair, a closet organizer, pots and pans, etc., plus a nice little herb garden for the patio. And I added more sale items to the Big Box o’ Consumables today. I truly don’t think my own pantry and supply cabinet was as well-stocked until I’d been married for a couple of years!

Proud of Girl 2.0, also. She figured out how to improvise a plumbing “snake” from a coat hanger, and cleared about a Godiva of hair from her shower drain. And her final freshman transcript was posted - 97.75 actual average, 100.8 weighted average (advanced classes get a little “bump” in the way they are figured.) Currently ranked #2 in a class of 477. And she’s polite and pretty! (Takes after her Mama!)

While I’m rambling - last night, the Littlest Misses were arguing. Bigger Little (age 6) took something from the 4-year-old. At the top of her lungs, Littler Miss (WASPiest little kid ever) protests “No bueno!” I was laughing too hard for discipline to happen. Littlest was mad today, and informed the teenage sister that Santa was watching, a “You. Get. NOTHING!!!”

Dindin was exceptional if’n I do say so myself. It was ranked “just like supper at granny’s house.” High praise indeed! Plus ice cream for later. YUM!

Peaches “Santa is watchin’ AND. YOU. GET. NUTTIN’.” Shall be my new go to phrase for someone bein’ bad. Love it!

sari yay for found house key and productive day!

Home finally!! Been home about a half hour. I am already in my bed with my boy dog curled up beside me. Heaven! Still sick. Finally have started to cough up some crud but there’s still a whole lot in there. There truly is no place like home.
