Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 60 Amurrkin out and rainy/windy with a predicted high of <snerk> 69! <snerk and a day and night of rain and wind though it may all calm down by late afternoon. Irma got downgraded to a Tropical Storm before it reached Jawja. Originally it was predicted to be a category one hurricane so at least there’s that. We have no big plans for the day. We have electricity (duh!) so we shall stay in da cave where it’s all snuggly and dry. No trees down or even limbs which is a good thing. I kind of expected to see some downed limbs. The cee-mint pond is pretty full which I also expected. I get to spend tomorrow drainin’ water out and makin’ sure the salt level is OK. Icky as it is out we don’t have near the problems the folks in Flarduh have experienced and for that I am grateful. Pretty much everything is closed for the day which is good as I want folks to be safe above all things.
Now I need more caffeine and rumbly tummy wants to be fed. Then I suppose I should purtify and watch what the weather is doin’. OYKW is still abed so I don’t wanna disturb him.
<bad word> I just hit submit on my MMP because I thought y’all were being lazy lie-abeds this morning. 'Sokay, I just asked to have them merged. This is not the post you’re looking for. waves hands, refills coffee cup
That’s 2 weeks in a row we’ve had simul-MMPs! Do we need to go back to claiming one the night before??
I’m glad to see Irma isn’t as awful as earlier predicted. Ocala was originally bracing for 110MPH winds, but now the max they’re threatening is 60, and by this afternoon, the worst should be out of the area, so my daughter and SIL should be able to get back to Orlando at a reasonable hour. Yay! I know they’ll be glad to be back in their own space.
So, what about Jose? It’s looking like by Sat it’ll be heading west. dang…
As for me, it’s another day in paradise. Busy, busy! Happy Moanday!
Uh-oh, now I’m really scared!
Heard from my cousin in Boca Raton; she’s safe, home, has electricity, but horror-of-horrors - no cable or intertubez!
OK that’s it! I’m turning this MMP around and NO-ONE gets any ice-cream!
As I said in the hurricane thread more kin than I would like hunkered down and stayed. If folks don’t start checking in by Wednesday I’m going to start worrying. Beloved Brother and mother stayed with the rest of the family in Gainesville and while the bad storm is missing them/died down somewhat I still worry about her reaction and more so his reaction to her reaction. Riding out a major storm with a parent in their 90s who is somewhat deranged at the best of times it probably not something he prepared himself for in the spring. Sister-in-law maybe more so maybe, but not him. I had hopes he would evac to his daughters place up closer to the NC/SC border.
Most of my family and friends have checked in on Facebook, and are fine. Without power, but fine. I only haven’t heard from one, but he’s a bit of a Luddite and probably doesn’t use his phone for FB.
I sent my mom solar lanterns and phone chargers last week. She was happier to get those than some Christmas prezzies over the years! She didn’t know those things existed. :p:D
I work from home on Moandays, so I don’t have to be sheveled. Sometimes I don’t even put on pants.
Looks like it’s going to be wet here in North Ali-bama for a couple of days. Need to runny over to Wally’s place and pick up a couple of things then hunker down for a bit.
Still nothing like what our Southernmost mumpers faced, but it will dampen things here considerably.
We’re under high wind and flash flood warnings in Apple County so I am not available to temp for the next couple of days. I’m trying to get some writing done instead but the barometric pressure just took a sudden nose-dive. I forgot how weird that feels.
We have a houseguest who’s trying to get to Charleston SC for a family vacation. Not sure how that’s going to work out. Hopefully the rain will hold off long enough for Seasonal to get home from work. Irish Storyteller is working from home because he’s not fool enough to drive down mountain to his office in SC. We are on a hill and on a hill we shall stay.
I messaged with my daughter - the rain seems to have stopped in Ocala and they’ll be heading back to Orlando shortly. She contacted a neighbor and they didn’t lose power, so that’s good. My family has survived and I can now stop fretting. Altho I wouldn’t mind if asshole BIL got a tree in his living room. Does that make me a bad person?
It’s windy and rainy and gloomy here, and the bigger gusts of wind arrived about 45 minutes ago, but we are in good shape so far. Got power, phone, and internet, so does my mom, about 15 miles NW. Brother and SIL lost electricity a couple of hours ago, but they live in the swamp. And the neighbors have lost a smallish tree, but it missed the roof, so hooray.
Busy, productive morning. I’m getting close to running out of work, but Josh says he has a biggie that’ll be fairly hot, so I guess I’ll be good for at least one more day.
Not bad for a Monday. Now, I just need to remember to stop for milk on the way home. Note to self…
Still rainy and windy out but the wind seems to be slowin’ down. Hopefully by late afternoon the rain will be gone. We are being slothful. I shall however make dindin. Salmon patties, peas, smashed N.O.T. and bizkits. Comfort food on an ick day.
Last day of thumb twiddling before course registration week begins (I had thought it was today, but it was just 'week starting 11th, and they don’t start registration for my course 'til tomorrow). My student loan came through today so I’ve been [del]getting rascally drunk[/del] doing a few bits of shopping for the flat; getting some cooking gear, and a set of crockery so’s I don’t have to wash the sole plate after every meal, and I can even have visitors round. No Irma though. I’ve never experienced a hurricane that I recall*, but I’ve heard they have terrible table manners.
*I have vague memories of the Great Storm of '87, when my paddling pool blew away, but I’m not sure that counts.
Went to Wally’s Place to pick up a few necessities. Hasn’t started to rain here yet, but looking at the NWS radar, once it starts it’s going to rain for awhile. Noted about 30 utilities tricks (most one with lift-baskets) parked in the Wal-Mart lot, don’t know if they’re for precieved issues here in N. Ali-Bama or forming a convoy for Florida.
Anyway, I am ensconced at home with ample food and drink, so we’ll see what happens.
Nuts, you do get hurricanes in ol’ Blighty, they’re just worn out after their long trip through the US and across the North Atlantic so they look like ordinary rain storms.
I just found out I was affected by Equifax’s incompetence so I’ve been placing security freezes on my cred it with all three reporting agencies. Experian and Transunion were no problem. Equifax took forever to load and gave me a security error the first time I tried it. :dubious: It worked the second time so no one can damage my credit now but me.
Other than that it’s been a productive morning. I managed to get some story written, got an interview for Thursday, and helped Seasonal corral the cats so Irish Storyteller can work in a distraction-free zone. I feel fully justified in taking the rest of the day off in honor of the hurricane/tropical storm/big rain event. I have a shawl that needs makin’.
Nappage has been achieved after N.O.L. was foraged. OYKW is still achievin’ nappage. When we commence to feel hungry I shall make dindin which won’t take long. I’m thinkin’ it will be an early dindin.
Irma is still with us although she is slowin’ down. I’m hopin’ the rain will be cleared out in the next couple of hours. The winds have died down considerably but are still brisk. Little bits of tree debris in the front yahd which won’t be a problem to clear out once the winds have stopped.
