The Irma Comes To Visit MMP

Solidarity, komrade.

Yeah, they report it frequently, ‘the remnants of hurricane whatever’, so’s we can feel guilty about getting all cross about it being wet and windy when other people had actual dangerous conditions.

Well, the rain finally started, but pretty modest amounts and no thunder/lightning and winds. Lots of parents will be upset having had to stay home today with the kids (most schools are closed). We’ll see what tonight and tomorrow will bring.

Considering nappage.

For those not on FB, Mr **Butters **is fine and the **Butters **estate survived. She doesn’t know when she’ll be able to go home - from all reports I’ve read, they’re not going to let anyone return till water and power has been restored. I’ve read that the bridges and roads are being inspected, too. I fear it’ll be a while before the Keys are reopened.

I was looking at some of the images from Jacksonville and adjacent areas - they got hit hard. One of my daughter’s friends posted that they don’t have power or phone in their part of the county. It was a helluva storm…

And on top of that, I got a notice that my car needs to go to the dealer for a recall inspection. It could result in replacement of the short block. I haven’t noticed any symptoms that they described, but I will comply with the inspection. Always something.

I suspect the Navy got 'em out and the Navy will get 'em back in, but it will be a while until general folks will be allowed back down. I’m glad to hear hubby, estate, and kitteh are all fine.

From what she posted, they’re not going to bring anyone back till the Keys are habitable - could be 2-3 weeks!

I was looking on the TV news sites in Jacksonville - holy crap, are things a mess there!! And they’ll probably feel the effects of Jose, too. I’m sorry for them, but I’m so glad we left that state.

Howdy Y’all! We et an early dindin and chill mode ensues. The winds have died down and now all we have is a light rain which is supposed to be goin’ away. I have some debris from trees, my own and the neighbor’s dang pine trees in the yahd which I will deal with tomorrow when it’s dry. In a bit I shall drag the biiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiig trash can down to the road for pickup tomorrow. Thus endeth the tale of hurricane Irma in southwest Jawma.

Glad Butters, Mr. Butters, Butters Estate etc are all intact.

I’m taking the liberty of copying Butters’ FB post:
They don’t need one more mouth to feed, one more person to drink water or one more person to flush a toilet until the infrastructure is fixed. Likely will be a week or more. 1 Oct is ETA.

Looks like she and Louie are having an extended vacation in St. Louis.

St. Louis is a fun city. I’ll pop over to Facebook and give her more recommendations, just in case she gets bored.

I’m glad butters’ hubby and estate are OK.

metal mouse, my guess is that the trucks are in a convoy. Immediately following Harvey, I saw the caravans from utility companies convoying down I65. I even saw power trucks from NIPSCO and I used to send them a check every month when I lived in northern Indiana.

We are getting rain and unseasonably cold weather here in middle Tennessee. It looks like wet one had a normal Nashville September day and we got the northern Illinois stuff. :stuck_out_tongue: I got Nelson out before the rain began in earnest. He’ll wear his slicker tonight if it gets really stormy.

My daughter doesn’t have power - some idiot in her neighborhood dropped a tree on a power line. :smack:

My mom knew someone named Irma. She hated her. From what I knew of Irma, she wasn’t that pleasant.

I’d like to go to bed in half an hour, but my roommate is currently at one of her favourite pastimes - long late-night phone calls. Annoying, but what can I do, except wait a little while. Hey ho.

No. Wishing he would end up in Arkansas would make you a bad person.

I’m curious what Da Jungle does for the Florida folks. Corporate has done little to help the bottom-level Texas associates like myself but we have a lot more numbers in FLA. Mind you, they want us to send money and help to Texas through Seattle ---- they have just been slow about doing much themselves.

I got a little rain and wind from Irma. But the Canes’ Training Camp Schedule is out:D[sup]100[/sup][sup][sup]10[/sup][/sup]

I saw some of the pics from The Keys. 2 weeks is about right.

They’re talking about evacuating everyone else from the Keys now; another 10,000 folks. I think Route 1 is royally borked and they’re worried about supply issues, but they aren’t really saying. Phooey.

Hello. What a long strange ride it’s been. I was about crazy with worry until one of the neighbors hunkering down with hubby got out of the Keys yesterday and called to let me know they all survived, my house is dry, my cat is alive and even my car survived. It was parked on the little hump bridge approach close to the house. The cell phone service in the Keys is non-existent, the water is off due to numerous leaks in the pipeline that brings it from the mainland, the power is out due to multiple poles being knocked over. Even the giant concrete ones. I was reading on Facebook for almost 24 hours that there was a 10-14 foot surge in my neighborhood which was not true. The sense of relief is overwhelming. I still have not talked to hubs.

My collegeue that I am sharing this apartment with lives (lived) in a mobile home and her car is on base as that is what we took to the terminal last Friday night. It may or may not be Ok. Her trailer probably is not OK. My supervisor was being recalled today from Orlando and said he would go see and send us some pictures. She is a good friend but a very whiny poo pot. She has insurance and she is a thrifty person so if it is destroyed she will get another home. I was worried about my home but more worried about my hubby and cat. I am insured as is she.

We have a nice big place to stay here on Scott AFB. Louie is settling in. Her cats are confined to her bedroom but I guess they are settling in. I had a letter hand delivered by the front desk from the base commander giving us commissary and base exchange privileges for the length of our stay here which is a huge help as we already know how to get there. I only brought one change of clothes even though I had a small suitcase packed. We were told one bag only and pets in carriers. My suitcase is in her car. I have already had to go buy a hoodie as it’s a little chilly here at night. There is a washer/dryer here so I can wash my two sets of clothing. I can also go buy more but have to take back or throw away so I may just make do. I am not worried about being a fashion statement while in refugee status and besides that no one here knows me.

I bet when all this is said and done there will be multiple deaths in the Keys. Even with a mandatory evacuation tens of thousands of people stayed. My niece was finally able to find a landline working and check in yesterday so one less thing to worry about. I have been in multiple hurricanes and tropical storms but I was there so I had first hand knowledge. Not knowing was rather the hardest part.

They were also slow at delivering my kitty playpen and hurricane supplies that I ordered in plenty of time. The mail service is suspended indefinitely so I guess I will eventually get it. And I have Prime. Not at all impressed this time.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to work.

From what Butters and others have posted on Facebook, everything is borked.:frowning:

Glad everything and everybody surivved, Butters.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 60 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 79 and mostly cloudy for the day. I am hopin’ it dries out some outside so I can clean up debris. Just easier to clean up when it’s dry. I’ll also help out my neighbor. She has lots of pine trees so little bits of pine tree are down all over her yahd. I can take yahd debris to the county landfill or to the alley at OYKW’s place. ICK! I need to call sis in a while to see what it’s like in Ye Olde Home Towne. I foresee goin’ up on Thursday and spendin’ a few days as I’m sure there’s debris in her yahd and also just to visit.

Butters so glad everything is OK with Perry, the house, car, cat etc.

Now I need more caffeine and rumbly tummy wants to be fed. Then, well, when I can see what’s goin’ on outside, cleanup must commence. Rah.

Happy Tuesday Y’all!

Good morning. Somehow I missed all of last week’s MMP. I’m glad you are safe, Butters.

Nothing too exciting here in boring old Ohio. We are dog sitting overnight for my dad. The giant miniature schnoodle will return home this morning.

Since I don’t have to report to the courthouse till 8:30, I turned off the alarm. I was still up before 5, altho I fell back to sleep till about 5:30. **FCD **has gone to work, I emptied and refilled the dishwasher and I just finished breakfast. Shortly, I’ll hit the shower and get dressed for the festivities. I read the dress code and I think I’ll be OK in my dark purple jeans and pink, pineapple-covered polo shirt. I just need to find a book. According to my sweetie, it’s a long, boring process that often leads to nothing.

Speaking of whom, he spoke to his dad yesterday about what his asshole brother said. I doubt that much will come of it - the asshole has been 59 years in the making, and I knew years ago what a bigot he is. Frankly, I don’t want to go there for Christmas, but I guess I have to. Maybe asshole will be abducted by aliens between now and then…

**Butters **- I can’t even imagine what this is all like for you, but it’s got to be a relief to know you’ve got a house and a husband to go home to, even if you don’t know when you’ll get there. Plus you’ve got us - which may or may not be a good thing…

I saw one news story last night about a guy who fled the Keys for his second home in the very area where Irma came ashore! His home in the Keys was OK, but the place where he fled to was trashed. I’m guessing he’s wishing he’d made a different choice. But if he can afford 2 homes in FL, it’s hard to feel sorry for him.

OK, I need to shower and dress and find something to read. If I leave by 8, I’ll have plenty of time to drive to Leonardtown, find a place to park, and head to the courthouse.

Happy Tuesday.
