The Irma Comes To Visit MMP

Glad to hear you and Louie are safe and your house is dry, Butters.

We got a lot of rain yesterday and some wind, but it wasn’t as bad as They were anticipating. Or maybe I was sheltered from the worst of it here. The house is on top of a hill, but it’s sheltered by a lot of trees. I saw waves of rain in the field across the street, but the trees at the house were barely moving.

I have an interview for a temp position at the local Evil Horsepistol on Thursday afternoon. I’d be more excited but my mood’s taken a nosedive lately due to stress, weather, and plain tiredness.

Well, time to head to L’town. Back later with tales of juris prudence. Or not. We shall see…

I was nicely settled into bed and about to go to sleep last night, when suddenly, my roommate started yet another late-night phone call. Ugh. I expressed my displeasure to my roommate, and I hope she’s not mad at me now.
I do have earplugs. I am so grateful for my earplugs. You may call them earplugs - I call them sanity-savers.

Glad you, the hubs, cat, house, & car are all okay.

I’d say go to WallyWorld & get some cheap stuff; it doesn’t need to last that long & you won’t be wasting a lot of money when you [del]throw it out[/del] donate it. (Bonus: charitable tax deduction!) You’ll probably even be okay buying a suitcase there given you’re not flying commercial…
My parents had friends who were snowbirds; drove down to FL in late fall/early winter & returned close to Spring. As one could imagine, when you go away for an extended period of time, you pack your car with thing like clothes, like on one of those clothes rods that hang from the “oh-shit” handles in the back sear.
They were driving home up I-95, still in FL when their car caught fire. A very nice trucker pulled over & helped them, he at least helped them get some clothes out of the back seat before the car became fully involved. They are now standing on the side of the interstate with no car & a pile of clothes. He gave them the suggestion to go to WallyWorld to buy some cheap luggage as it would only need to be used once. Further, he suggested they fly since they had so much less stuff (some was lost) after their ordeal. (I think he took them to WW, too.)
They bought cheap luggage, put their remaining possessions in & went to the airport & bought tix home on the next flight.

Did you know that last minute purchased, one-way plane tix, along with brand-new, cheap luggage hits about every check box on the “Drug courier” profile? :smack:
Yes, they were thoroughly searched & questioned.

The final kicker was a freak, late season snow, closed the airport so they had to divert to somewhere else a few hour drive away & then get bused home. Took them about the same time to get home as if they drove. :(
Slept until after 8am, thanks to a combination of cool weather and a cloudy morning. Still dripping rain, but nothing like the major storm I think most were expecting. Might be some slight flooding around the area, but mostly nothing (some schools are still closed today).

Need to change the gasket on my toilet and fight with AT&T service some more, but that will be the extent of my activity today. Have a bit of a stuffy nose, which if can probably turn into a cold without to much difficulty. We shall see.

Butters, glad you came through this intact. Does the Commissary/PX at Scott have some clothing deals you can take advantage of. I’m the most casual dresser ever, but wearing the same two outfits for a couple of weeks might ever weary me.

Midget, just remember, homicide is a temporary pleasure…

swampy, have fun pickin’ up the sticks. And be careful.

Howdy Y’all! It’s still wet and dreary out so I decided to forego cleanin’ up the yahd until tomorrow when it should be dry. Instead I have spiffed da cave and have beast stew simmerin’ away in a slow cooker. Beast stew sounds like a good thing on a still kinda icky day.

The desk towers now have the first coat of varnish. Between getting home early Sunday and yesterday sanding and staining was done.

Butters – glad you and yours are good.

For mid-western Mumper-lurkers Thorntown Indiana Saturday the 23rd. Trust me on that one. Butters – consider telling your friends. Trust me that Florida has nothing like the Electric Amish. Rev Billy C Wirtz, yeah ---- but nothing this holy and plain.

Looks like my post got et.

Anyway, not empaneled, so I’m in the office. No stories to share - it was a boring morning and I’m glad I wore a cardigan because it was chilly. We’ll see if I get called back before next Firday…

Butters! Glad the news is good for hubs, cat, and house.

I miss Pepper pup and my family (that’s the right order, right? Right!). Off to another appt. Tomorrow is the horrible one.

Happy Toesday all!

Glad you’re gonna be okay Butters.

Hang in there Sunny

Nothing to report from here, except that I do not like this new layout.

Oh, and we finished binge watching Stranger Things last night.

Carry on.

Well, soccer practice got called off, fields are still too wet. So dinner can be whenever I feel like it.

Otherwise nothing much worth reporting.

Press on.

Evenin’ all. Glad the hubs and kitty are OK Butters!

I are now officially a stoodent. Out of about 30 who were supposed to be enrolling, there were 5 no-shows. You really gotta wonder about some folks.

It looks like (as I thought) I’m not far off average age for the class. Almost everyone (students and staff) seems pretty friendly, and I’m getting pretty excited. I wasn’t, really, until now, 'cos my subconscious was sorta expecting it all to be some big mix up or something. Classes proper start next week, but they’re taking us all on a day out tomorrow, to the main campus of the University what officially certifies the course is (it’s about an hour away) and to a National Trust garden.

Made my packed lunch already for tomorrow. Feel like a big kid. Might have to bring something to play with on the bus.

Holy cow, there were some high winds in WNC! Downed tree in Brevard cuts family home in half.

This is why Irish Storyteller is adamant about giving his trees a dose of Bayer tree treatment every spring. That and the woolly adelgids on the hemlocks next to the house.

Home, wondering where my spousal unit is. I’m guessing he got stuck in a late meeting. Oh well…

My adventures in jury duty were meh. We checked in and sat in a room with a loud TV on the local FOX affiliate. Then a nice lady came in and played a video that I’d already watched on line - it told us what to expect. Then we sat some more. Shortly before 10, we went up to the courtroom. It was to be a civil trial concerning an auto accident - I think one guy was suing the other for whiplash or something similar. It happened on the Navy base.

We, as a group, were asked questions about whether we were or were associated with legal and medical careers, whether we’d had injuries to our backs or necks, whether we knew either attorney, stuff like that. About a dozen folks were dismissed. Then they picked 6 jurors and one alternate and dismissed the rest of us. There is a possibility that I could be called again before next Friday, so we shall see.

The decision now - what to do for supper???

Howdy Y’all! Beast stew and cornbread have been ingested. We both have some for N.O.L. tomorrow and the rest is in containers that will go in da freezer as soon as I think they’ve cooled down enough. The sun came out finally and it warmed up. Tomorrow I shall tackle the yahd.

Nuts I suggest you take a tuba with you for the bus ride.

butters, I’m glad Perry, the cat and your niece rode out the storm in one piece each. If you get bored while you’re in IL, keep in mind, you’re not too far from Metropolis casino and only 4 1/2 hours from Nashville. Should you decide to make a field trip south, I would be happy to play tour guide.

We’re getting leftovers from Irma. Yes, she’s still considered a tropical storm as far north as middle Tennessee. For the most part, we’ve had some wind, a buncha rain and cold temps. Seasonal temps are supposed to begin this weekend. I’ve never had to turn the AC off in September in Tennessee.

I had to turn the heat on yesterday.

Brothers crew are all accounted for now. Some mild damage and some flooding around them but in general all got off light. Waiting for some of the OWs crew yet; they are further south so we have some concerns.

Been home a fair while. We did a “three and out” speed shift for some reason. Dinner was leftovers.

I worked. I had a Booster Club meeting. Had a flat. In the rain. Now I gotta see if the flat can be plugged, or do I need a new one.:frowning:

Yes

Bagpipes.

Glad everybody survived, Ruble.

I got Retweeted by comedian David Mitchell yesterday. It’s still on the top of his feed right as I post this. He’s one of my comedy heroes. Wowsers!
