Up and waiting on the Sunday paper delivery. Used a gift card I got last spring to eat at Outback last night (worked almost perfectly; card was for $25 and the bill was $24.83).
Today will be chillage and some cleaning of house. I bought some new phones last week, maybe I’ll get around to installing them today (those sloths at the DMV have nothing on me).
So, showered, dressed, tended to the critters, breakfasted, ran to WalMart and Ace Hardware for a few items, and now we’re home. I need to get motivated to finish weeding. **FCD **is already in the basement continuing to set up his mill - he hasn’t touched the lathe yet. Neither machine is plug-n-play.
Summer has returned, dammit. We had to close the house and turn on the air, mostly for the humidity. Dammit.
It took about an hour to finish the weeding. I filled my 5 gallon bucket once, then half way again. The front bed looks lots tidier. Maybe next weekend I’ll be motivated enough to thin out the lilies. It’ll help if the humidity drops.
Poor daughter has to return to her non-electrified home tonight, unless power is restored today. Worse, she’s got to go back to school tomorrow, and they were informed that the a/c isn’t working. And, of course, the windows don’t open. So she gets to spend the day with a bunch of whiny 7th graders complaining about the heat… and did I mention she’s pregnant?? Poor baby.
My big excitement for the day is a trip on the shuttle back to the commissary in search of a rotisserie chicken. I need some real food. I may even get some of those already made mashed taters and a jar of gravy and a can of English peas. I am going to give Luckylouie a bath too. I am starting to get cabin fever. I may rent a small car and get out tomorrow and explore.
Latest word unconfirmed is a return home on the 30th  and there are three more potential storms out there.
I was suffering from a serious DQ deficiency, but that has been remidied - the crisis has passed!
I just dumped a bunch of water in my porch planters. **FCD **is watching the Redskins game, cheering for them to lose because he hates them so much. I’m gonna resume the crochet position.
**Butters **- if you want to visit a historical site right there on NAS Jax, head to the marina. That’s where **FCD **and I met. I don’t know if they’ve erected a shrine yet…
I hauled the biiiiiiiiiiiiiig trash can all the way to the road for pickup tomorrow. This will be the first Moanday pickup in two weeks. Week before last was Labor Day and pickup was delayed a day last week due to Irma. Also tomorrow is men’s night over to the church house, thus steaks are marinatin’ and beer is chillin’.
Good day at the carnival, plenty of food trucks there.
Butters, I saw that.
Sucks about the daughter’s lack of A/C, Moooommmm. At least when I went to school, we could open the the windows*, even if we had no air conditioning in the school.

The cats have all been bathed. I brushed three handfuls of fur off BFDC. He’s supposed to be a shorthair. Longhaired Samantha barely filled up her slicker brush.
Other than that it’s been a chill day. I have a drug test tomorrow so I had to behave.
I coffeed with friends, came home, got Nelson and headed to the picnic area at the dam to walk him. Supper is something my Mom cooked on a regular basis, smothered cube steak, rice, fried cabbage and asparagus. Yum!
Something they do here and not on the base I work on is playing the music trumpet I guess. I know the morning one is reveille but I do not know what the 1930 one is called. Mooommm do you know?
I am for sure renting a car tomorrow and will check out the historical marina. I have severe cabin fever. Got to get out of here.
Ugh. All-day rehearsal today. I usually enjoy those, but we played a band piece where the music arranger thought it was a good idea to have my instrument (the alto clarinet) play for almost the whole 47 minutes of the piece. Not a good idea. My lips are dead.
**Butters **- it’s evening colors - it’s when they take down the flag at sunset. Morning colors is at 0800, and that’s when the flag goes up. When colors sounds, you’re supposed to stop, stand at attention, and face the direction of the main admin bldg which is where the flag flies. If you’re driving, you’re supposed to stop and sit at attention.
The British were pretty sure they were supposed to lose today.
I wanted to make sure so I brought a cannon.
I didn’t tell them and we had it hidden. So after some skirmishing back and forth for about 20 minutes me and a couple friends pulled it from cover and put it into action.
We won.
And not one of the Opposition Forces is going to have a constipation issue for the next couple days.
I could copy this to the new MMP but I’m feeling lazy. Actually when my partners in crime and me pealed and ran off the British figured our guns had gone wonky and it was time to go off-script and go ahead and win. When we swung into sight with the big gun they were honestly surprised. And I already had it charged. So all we did was set it, prime and touch the round off…
I may have to try that trick again some day. A different group of Brits -------- but it worked well.
