The "It's Freezing Out There" MMP

Howdy Y’all! I spiffed da cave, watched several episodes of The Tudors on Netflix (thought I would hate it, but turns out it’s pretty good), achieved nappage and made sup which has been consumed. All in all not a bad day. 'Tis chilly out so glad to have spent the day inside and warm.

flytrap if MOOOOOOM’s ship hits an iceberg then it’s either lost or a new ice age has started.

My day was short, less than six hours. I went to my mother’s house and did some things for her, then cam home, at a late lunch, and dozed a bit.

Then I got up and took my laundry downstairs, so I could go to the laundromat. In taking the basket outside I slipped on ice and wrenched my left knee. I hollered really loudly, and the neighbor’s kid from across the alley came and helped me up. I can stand on it and walk in a gimpy fashion, thank goodness, but I wonder how it will be after stiffening up in bed all night.

When you other Mumpers have had a quick injury like this, did you also feel suddenly tired or washed out? It’s just after 6:00PM and I want to go to bed and lie down!

Thought you were going to use this version.

Was able to get in to see the doctor without too much hassle, but took awhile for him to see me. Apparently my ear gunk had piled up and was causing the pain (that’s his story), so I got ear drops (twice) to loosen the wax and then had water squirted into my ears via a large syringe–a rather unique feeling if you’ve never had it done. Also got a prescription for an antibiotic since there was some infection there, $57 worth of ear drops (antibiotics are expensive, it seems). Also picked up my new glasses, did some banking, and finally ate about 2:30pm, so dinner will be late and small.

Juliet, thanks for reminding me why I still live in the South despite being born and raised in the Midwest. Should be near 60F by the weekend here.

Shady, careful, outdoing the Jones could end up expensive and wearying.

Bumba, good luck on the soap sales; what do you label your soap as (I would think it would be somewhat more descriptive than “SOAP”.

sweater, 5" of snow would give me snow days. :stuck_out_tongue:

metal mouse, to paraphrase bumba, git yer butt to the doctor!

It was 43F when I left for irk this morning. It’s now 35F. Can we call this winter and be done with it?

Rain tomorrow, which is good.

I got a new dishwasher today and I am struggling mightily to prevent myself from running out to buy a new stove. Arg! Must not spend the money!

The avalanche has begun, it is too late for the pebbles to vote.

I gave up on that show when they killed off the first guy.

worked, came home. Off the next two days. It was a long week, I had a closing shift today, so I didn’t set my alarm. I woke up at 0830.

Howdy neighbor! And welcome to the MMP. We can call you Diploma.

Juliet, weather like that is why I’m not moving back to the homeland anytime soon. Unless Aaron Rodgers buys me lifetime season tickets.

Flytrap ,which first guy?:dubious:

Yeah, I always think it’s my body going ‘dammit, let me focus on that injury’ and trying to switch the rest of me off so it can without distractions.

It’s hammering it down with rain today. I’m not sure if I’ll be off playing with tiny plants or not later. The plan was to go into the big local town to grab some stuff (they have a bee supply shop there among other things), but walking round town isn’t that appealing, and the tiny plant lady hasn’t messaged me to say if she’s there or not today. Something’s happened to mess up the usual schedule, and it’s all a bit up in the air… I don’t need to do anything there, but I’d like to.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN 'Tis 34 Amurrkin out and dark (TWPTB say clear) with a predicted high of 50 and mostly N.O.S. for the day. We have a FREEZE WARNING in effect until eight a.m. I say FREEZE WARNING ominously because that’s how it is said by TWPTB. I shall do laundry today. Rah. Poke tenderloin (I shall cook it in the slow cooker) and side matter TBD shall be supped. No where I need to go today so I plan to not leave da cave again today. Fine by me.

CupCakes hope the knee feels better this mornin’. Yes, when sump’n like that happens to me I just want to go to bed and be immobile.

MetalMouse hope the ear feels better today. I have had my ears cleanded out like that a bunch over the years. Feels weird, but good at the same time to me. Seein’ the gross lookin’ gunk that comes out is both squicky and fascinatin’.

Now I need more caffeine and rumbly tummy demands sustenance. Then, onward into the day!

Happy Tuesday Y’all!

Happy Toosday!

Between the bladder and the dog I didn’t get much sleep last night.
I have a big blurf.

It’s cold outside, 36 degrees, and it is going to stay cold with a high of 39 degrees.

Toosday is trim the dog’s toenails and clean the dog’s ears day.

Well, no tiny plants for me today. No email saying I can come over, and I don’t fancy driving nearly an hour to glumly look through the window at a locked, empty lab. Hope everything’s OK there, there’s clearly something going on.

Oh well, I’ll stay in and stare at this essay I’m trying to write. It’s pretty interesting, to me at least, but I think I have less than 10% of it even sketched out yet. It’s on the history and use of quinine- which could include everything from the fall of the Roman Empire to gin 'n tonic.

Morning all. Still some ear aches, but no stabbing pain to wake me up from a sound sleep, so sleeping was uninterrupted. 27F outside but N.O.S., and we’re still looking for temps in the 60’s by the weekend (we’re also looking at Tunder-boomers for the weekend, but I’ll take the warmth in exchange).

Nut, good luck on the paper, it does sound like a good topic and I wasn’t aware quinine had that sort of history; I thought it was more a 19th century thing.

Cupcakes, hope it didn’t tighten up to much today. But yeah, our body reacts to injury by pumping in adrenaline and such to let us get ourselves out of the problem and assess things, but when it cuts off, we need to recuperate. Or maybe I’m just lazy…

doggio, I think he’s talking about the first Commander (Sinclair), who I would note, was not killed off; he just got better in a different time period…of course, I’m trying to think like flytrap while being sober, so who knows…

Need to find sustenance and do some house cleaning today, so all y’all take care.

They way they’re playing right now, some people practically giving them away.

Juliet Jr. goes to a private school, so they wear a uniform. But this week, the student council is doing an adopt-a-family fundraiser for the holidays where the kids can “dress down” to match the theme of the day for $1. Tomorrow is “White As Snow” day where they have to wear all white. She’s got white shirts, white tights, white socks… no white skirts or shorts or pants. So last night, I whipped up a white tutu skirt with one of Romeo’s white undershirts, some elastic, and some white netting left over from a previous project. All in all, it’s not a bad skirt for having no plan and only spending about an hour on it.

Blurf We are at 79F going to 59F. Brrrr!
I am off here in a few for the weekly manager meeting. So tired of meetings.
Happy New Week.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off today. It was 34 this moring, and it’s up to 43 now, with a wind chill of 39. So of course Gordie has wanted 3 walks already.:dubious:

I’ll be happy to help you research things. Gin and tonics things specifically.

Well, he did go 1000 years back in time, and was possibly carried off by the Vorlons(N.O.A.). And if you wanna think like Flytrap, just chug a couple of 4 Lokos.

juliet ,very creative. And I’m not giving up being a fan just yet(would it have killed y’all to beat the Vikings, though?)

Late 16th, early 17th century, really, but I’m starting with a bit about how big a deal malaria was before quinine was found, to set the scene and it was a huge problem in ancient Rome.

The topic was ‘pick a plant with medicinal properties, discuss its historical use and future potential.’ The teacher said to make sure to include any controversies about its use, after which comment, from talking to other students, I think I’m about the only one that didn’t pick marijuana or opium

Anyway, my brain’s now full. Time to stop and let all the info settle a bit.

Had a really late night on Sunday night. Long story short, got very lost, did lots of walking, eventually got to a place where I could get a taxi home. Exhausting, but at least it makes a good story.

Was really tired yesterday as a result. Planned to go to bed early. Didn’t happen because my roommate thoroughly chewed me out about how I waste too much kleenex and toilet paper, but really it wasn’t about that, it was about how rude I am and how I do things wrong and am using autism as an excuse to be bad/weird/I dunno. I tried not to cry, but failed. Oh, and the AirBNB guest came in in the middle of all this. Then I went to my room and had to use more kleenex.

Got up sort of early today. I’m exhausted. I want to go to sleep - but the fucking renovators are back.

Someone shoot me now, it’s the only way I’ll ever get any peace.

Midget - have you ever considered that your roommate is … a … um…
flaming asshole?

You need to learn how to give ‘the look’.
Instead of crying you need to take a step back, look at her intensely, and think, not say, think,
My God! You Really* Are* a Fucking Asshole, Aren’t You?
It’s all about attitude and perspective. See, you let it get to you and make you feel bad, when the truth is, shis is just an anal rententive bully who obviously has problems of her own that she avoids dealing with by making you the problem.
Not to make you feel badly, but you are doing her a horrible diservice by allowing her to continue to live with her delusions about her self and her refusal to face the reality that she is a fucking nutcase.

Is there a reason why I am getting an Emergency Alert without the usual this is just a test of the Emergency Broadcasting System, if this were an actual emergency you would be getting…?

If I called my roommate names, I would actually be being rude, though. But I understand your point.
I should start looking for other places, though not immediately.
