Up, caffeinating and breakfasted. I’m heading up to SIL’s ~1 this afternoon. She had a mishap over Thanksgiving and is still sore. I’ll take some fricase de pollo and chocolates so she’ll have lunch and medicinal chawklit. I’ll take Nelson with me. He can play with her chihuahua in the fenced in back yard. Other than that, it’s just the usual Sunday chores.
It was more in the sense of being Canadians than being physically close to you; you don’t really expect people to come from another country for what is basically a small local event. For them to make the drive for Santarchy is almost like someone making the drive for the craft fair. I didn’t get to spend a lot of time with all of them (well – coherent time at least) but I believe they were sort of scattered around Canada and picked Toronto as a central gathering point to invade us from. The one guy was fun; originally from Quebec City area and a lot of fun. It was enjoyable to show them around the city.
I may have to visit the event site to refresh my memory somewhat. I believe I married a couple and tied a guy up at some point but some of the details are a little fuzzy around the edges. Because of the weather it was a way smaller crowd than in the past but the people there really got into it. It was a little spread out going from the far end of the South Side to DownTown to North Shore but with plenty of places where you could take a tenderfoot time-out along the journey. The two regular Mrs Claus’s I usually team with were missing and I’ll have to check up on them – one has been with us from the beginning and the other the last 10 years – and I just want to make sure everything is alright.
On my way to San Diego for a job interview at the Salk Institute for Biological Studies. Wheeeeeeee. Sitting in the airport at the moment. Not so much wheeeeeee.
Soccer took more out of me than IU thought; napped hard for 90 minutes then slept for 8.5 hours last night. Feel good today, but outside of tidying up the place and running the dishwasher not much on the schedule. All the rain went south to torment Swampy and the temperature is in the 60’s (heading down to the 50’s for the rest of the week, however).
Ruble, good to see you survived (sort of). Soulds like a lot of fun was has.
Midget, I used to drive 250 miles for a certain type of lunchmeat, so 600 miles for a craft fair doesn’t sound odd to me (but I’m an American and doing odd things is part and parcel of what we are).
Red, hope SIL is feeling better; I’m guessing mishap=fall and at a certain age falls will take a lot out of you.
Sari, dealing with idiots at the end of a telephone line is one of the benefits of technology most of us could do without. Good luck.
Swampy, not exactly sure where you are in S. Georgia, but looking at the NWS radars it’ll be a little while before things clear up. Hope there is no damage like there was in the hurricane. Do roads flood often down there?
Nut, I hear you (and wish you didn’t hear the rain). Take care.
Need to make myself presentable and go forage for Sunday Dinner. Take care y’all.
Being lazy but I do have stuff to do. Our weather warmed back up thank goodness. I don’t know anyone can stand the cold. Just in the 60’s and I was ready to hibernate.
It’s miserable outside but I sat outside for a bit anyway.
Mostly so Ripple would run around the yard and burn up some energy. He is making it impossible to get anything done.
I try to clean the bathroom and he grabs a washcloth out of the laundry basket and runs off with it. I try to change the pillowcases and he keeps grabbing the end. I can’t walk down the hallway without him grabbing my pants leg. I put something in the recycle bin, he pulls it back out.
The cat is plucking my last nerve too. He doesn’t want the food in his bowl, that I put there this morning. He wants fresh food. You can’t get much fresher than catching a mouse, which is what he should be doing, instead of giving me a nasty look because he wants fresh food.
I don’t know which is worse this time of year, the stupid ass jewelry commercials or the suck ass perfume commercials.
I had a weird moment yesterday. I pretty much always have a bowl of oatmeal for breakfast. But yesterday I decided to make a burrito for breakfast instead.
Then when I signed on to my computer, the first pop-up ad I saw was for Quaker oatmeal, reminding me it was a healthy breakfast choice.
I’ve never had the ad before (and it hasn’t appeared since). I don’t buy oatmeal online or do searches for oatmeal, so I can’t think of any reason why I would be targeting for it. And the timing was spooky.
We had a good Holiday Market Friday and Saturday. Took in $788* for 12 hours ‘work’.
‘Work’ being sitting behind a table and talking to people, although I did have to walk a whole block home yesterday afternoon and bring back 2 big bags of soap to replenish. I walked home 'cause there was no way I was giving up my parking space.
Also it rained Fri and Sat. looks nice outside now though, 39F and clear.
So that’s over for another year.
Now life returns to ‘normal’ for certain values of ‘normal’.
Howdy Y’all! We deheathenated, had hyuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge brunch, came home and achieved nappage. I brought home about a gallon of the punch, which is a good thing cause we like it a lot. I am sippin’ upon a glass of it as I post. The remainder of the rain went south of us for the most part. Now ‘tis cloudy out and the temp is 74 Amurrkin. Lots of flooded yahds and such were seen on the to and from the church house. Looks like we may have some minor creek floodin’ overnight as well. Worst case scenario is a six mile ride to town will turn into a twenty mile ride to town. Then again, I have no where I must go tonight or tomorrow.
Saturday was nice and balmy in Waikiki. The wife and I strolled pleasantly along the beach, watching the surfers and other water frolickers. I had on my contacts so I could wear my shades against the glare of the sun.
Today is another gorgeous one out there. Life is good.
For a minute there, I thought you were bringing Labatt’s. :dubious:
Run ran, groceries groc’d, gas tank full. Dinner about to be et. Didn’t change the headlight though.
Roadrunner congrats on the job interview! Keep us posted on how it goes.
Ruble it sounds like a good time was had by all ('ceptin maybe whomever you tied up).
Akiko-pup and I tried another new dog park today. Best one yet, I think, but only one other dog was there today. There’s at least one other local one I want to try. Akiko is still young enough that every once in a while, she’ll look up and realize how far away from me she is. Then she’ll run over as fast as she can to check in.
I watch too much old television. On an episode of 77 Sunset Strip, John Banner (Sergeant Schultz) plays a Holocaust survivor searching for his daughter.
Oye.
metal mouse, you’re right, mishap = fall in this case. She’s ten years older than I am and got a nasty bump on the head and broke her kneecap. She was 359 miles from home visiting her mother in a nursing facility, so she got dpped up for her daughter to drive her home. She’s having a rough time dealing with her limitations. Before I left, one of her cats escaped and she was a basket case. She called me on my drive home to tell me that her grandson found her and she was back inside. I think this may be the trigger for her to seriously consider retirement.
sari, I escape a lot of those commercials this time of year by streaming videos for most of my viewing. You may or may not get a commercial at the beginning, and if it’s a trendy thing, sometimes in the middle, but they’re usually of the variety of skip ad after five seconds.
Had a good visit with SIL and crew this afternoon. Nelson got some off leash time in her back yard. The next time I go up, I’ll likely leave him here, since she’s on crutches for the time being and doesn’t need a rambunctious little guy tripping her.
