The "I've finished the rhubarb pies" MMP

If the mouse in my house ever tries to crawl into my lap
He’ll have a new name

DEAD!

My ear piercing shrieks will surely give him a brain hemorrhage.
Try spelling that one without looking it up.

We had magic intertoobz pizza for lunch along with one of those brownie/cookie thingies. Very yum!

Going to work early but I’ve got something off of my back.
**
All the rhubarb has been made into pies and said pies are frozen, ready to bake! **

I got enough for sixty-three pies. I actually made sixty six.

 Congratulations Baker on the completion of your monster project. I am sitting here marveling at what you accomplished! That was a lot of washing, trimming, chopping, mixing, measuring, cutting in, and rolling. I’m sure each and every bite of your pies will be delicious, and I’m sure your efforts will be much appreciated.

The gecko is currently surveying the world from his perch on my left foot. So he is Jim, the Lizard King.

You do realize we’ll need pictures, right?

Dindin was burgers leftover from last night with chips. Easy and tasty, just the way I like my dindin and my men.

Peaches I have anoles on my back porch. I see four of 'em usually. Their names are Liz, Ard, Fred, and Ethel. They hang out all Spring and Summer and some years into the Fall.

Thank you! I don’t know your location, but if you can reach NE Kansas, Topeka to be specific. come by for a free slice!

It took about four sessions to get them all done, but I’m used to bigger projects. In 2002 our cafe hosted First Lady Laura Bush when the library had it’s grand re-opening. Five to six hundred people! One time we hosted a catering with a Russian theme and I had to make eight pans of a speicial dish called kulebiaka. One item in it was over three gallons of diced onions, and I had to chop them by hand! And just last Tuesday I made fifty dozen cookies for one order.

I could say the same thing, but it wouldn’t MEAN the same thing, if you know what I mean!

My last 3 resident geckos have been Gordon*, Jeff**, and Junior***. I like lizards, but I’m not very creative about naming them! (I suspect that my next one will be Morris, Son of Lizard King!)

AndBaker, I have actually been to your facility, thanks to one of my old friends who grew up nearby. Friend lives in Florida now, but her dad works for a well-known hospital near you. Maybe I can convince him to buy cookies and mail them to me!

*Wall Street. Gordon Gecko was at our previous home. He lurked in the eaves, and would have been about a foot long if his tail had been present.
**NASCAR reference. I don’t know anything about racing, except for “left turns for about 200 laps.” But I have heard of Jeff Gordon. He died because he forgot to turn left, right?
***My friend who actually follows car racing named Junior. Junior lived in the laundry room all winter. I’m cool with environmentally friendly pest control.

LM, I can send you cookies if you want them, but now would not be a good time, it’s so very hot. Chocolate chips might melt. We do have other varieties though. I could even send you a recipe, but don’t tell my boss! Well, the peanut butter recipe is mine though.

That makes me think, we need a cookbook thread. Desserts, pastries, snacks, breads, veggies, candy, soups/stews, meats…I’m getting hungry.

I mean, all kinds of groups make their own cookbooks, shouldn’t the Dope?

You know, we might have to run it by a moderator or two, but a cookbook might be a nice idea. Perhaps a MMP vote every 3 or 6 months to choose a recipient of the proceeds?

You are aware that we have a collection of Mumper recipes, aren’t you?

We’re just back from a new-to-us restaurant on Breton Bay. We both got fish-n-chips and neither of us could finish the chips. **FCD **didn’t finish his fish either, so he’s got lunch for tomorrow. It was a nice place. They do breakfast on Sunday - we’ll have to try it some time.

For now, all chores are done. I’m about to assume the collapsed position in front of the TV. It’s been a busy but productive day!

We just et some iced cold watermelon. YUM! Even if BigKitty says otherwise. :stuck_out_tongue:

I didn’t know about the recipe collection! (But I would still be in favor of selling an ink and paper version, with proceeds helping someone we love.)

The nasty head cold I thought I had fought off is back with a vengeance. TMI but I have used two rolls of toilet paper today on my nose. Have sneezed about a 100 times at least. I am miserable. Even my usual allergy Meds Allegra D is not working and I have about overdosed on those. Why me? I am supposed to be on a plane on Thursday to middle GA to visit my family. I sure as heck don’t want to spread this.

As much as I don’t want to I need to go to the store for Kleenex and some other kind of antihistamine.

Godzilla.

I was going to post how much I hate you concerning the cement pond, but having read this…you poor bastard!

How was the reunion, rosie?

RIP Mr. Hockey. :frowning:

After housework, I took another ride this afternoon. I picked up a country road near my home that I’d never taken before. There were a lot of nice hills and curves, so you can bet I’ll take that one again.

My class reunion will have one less classmate. One of the guys who was in some of my geek classes, drama and choir had a massive stroke and passed yesterday. Now its old people stuff like strokes and heart attacks that are killing us instead of drug overdoses and car wrecks. RIP, Chuckles, you were a good man.

flytrap the burgers were moist and tender one nukulated. Add bacon, cheese, lettuce, and 'mater and it was a gooooooooooooooood burger.

On that note, I shall turn in for the evenin’. Allergies have gotten to me so I shall sleep with OYKW and Ben tonight.

Nitey Nite Y’all!

I don’t even know how it would work. But I am good at writing up recipes, so that terms match. I can also easily convert from metric to meaured amounts.

I like the stories that come with old recipes. Like the following, from my family.
*
This recipe was from my maternal grandmother’s family. She couldn’t remember when they didn’t have it, so it’s old. Grandma didn’t know where the name came from, but it doesn’t resemble Boston Cream Pie in the least, being more like fudge. Nuts other than black walnuts could be used I suppose, but the family has never used anything else, it’s tradition. Grandma told me that in the old days the women made sure they had a guy with a strong arm around to help with beating the mix after it finished on the stove. Now an electric paddle might serve instead.*

Boston Cream

3 cups sugar
1 cup clear corn syrup
1 cup heavy cream
1 cup chopped black walnuts
1 teaspoon vanilla

In a heavy saucepan combine sugar, syrup and cream. Bring to a boil and cook till the mix reaches the soft ball stage, about 236 degrees Fahrenheit(113 degrees Celsius) Remove from heat and beat long and hard as the mix cools and thickens. You can beat by hand if you have a strong arm, or use a heavy duty mixer. The mix should become paler in color, almost an off white. The beating is the secret. Just before it’s too thick to spread blend in vanilla and black walnuts, then spread in a buttered pan. When cool cut into small pieces to serve.

FCM, I didn’t know about the recipe collection, and me a 99’r!

Three more soccer games refereed, the last one went to overtime before ending 3-2, great game and I turned in my best referee performance (if I do say so myself) of the tournament. I knew it had to be good because parents from both sides were mad at me. But after hundreds of games, I know when I did good or bad, and I nailed this one.

Of course, the losing team was the one I was "sponsoring’ for the tournament (teams have to provide referees) and it was 96F, so I am in my Norse God stage (Thor all over).

One more scheduled for 0800 Sunday, but they have a lot of vacancies for refs so I suspect I will add an 8th game before I am done. Good think I’m retired, getting up for work on Moanday would not be fun…

Had a ham sammich the AYSO catered for us refs for lunch and nuked some bacon for dinner, now just getting ready for sleep…
