That said, I had a very nice time. Some of the class hadn’t changed one iota, others I wouldn’t be able to pick out of a line up. Our name tags were our yearbook photos, which helped a great deal.
There was interesting different food, although most of the hors d’oeuvres were fried, they did have this lovely little beef and goat cheese thing. I have a few of those.
Even though I grew up in that town, I’d never been inside the catering hall. I’d never been invited to any bar/bat mitzvahs or weddings that were held there. So I figured first time for everything - I’ve never had a Manhattan either. It was an open bar, so I ordered one. It was okay, not something I’d order again (not a bourbon fan).
The buffet dinner had some not-so-ordinary fare, though all I could tell you was the main ingredient: something with beef, something with chicken, something with salmon, and a pasta thing. It was all tasty, but I’d filled up on those beef & goat cheese things.
It was wonderful to see everyone, especially since several of them did not retain their youthful figures (I’m bad), although some had, amazingly well.
At one point, a woman came up to me (I didn’t recognize her name or her yearbook photo) and said “I was very mean to you in grade school, and I’ve felt terrible about it, so I apologize” I thanked her, and we polite-hugged. But that made me feel pretty good.
I even danced a little (well, spun the Jazzy on the dance floor for a bit).
So, now, I’m looking forward to the 50th. I just hope the organizers have a long talk with the DJ first.
