The Late Night MMP

That will teach you to diss people.

I feel a bit better now, though I’ve had to dose myself with ginger ale. Maybe I’ll get out a soda water or some such thing. Or regular water.

Worked, did laundry, walked the dog ,napped. Now I’m making a quick dinner. Mesquite chicken, paprika rice ,and corn with tomatoes and red pepper.

I got jerked around by AT&T UVerse for a year, and I’m very manly. Sometimes middle management doesn’t want to spend $ to fix a problem.

: grunts in manly appreciation :

Still not a bad Friday evening.

English as in “Not Amish”, not English as in “God Save The Queen”

I know that… sheesh! :stuck_out_tongue:

And on that note, I think it’s time for ice cream and reclining.

MWAH!!

I am surprised that some one of your…intellectual capabilities…understands that.

I have this music playing now. I find it quite nice as background music. Very calming.

Still doing research.

Apparently I am forbidden to listen because I am not in Canada.
Have those fellows not heard of The Band?
:dubious:

I can listen. Maybe they just don’t want your sort in the True North, eh?:p;)

Levon Helm is from Arkansas.
Very, very tacky of those Canucks. Snidely Whiplash, all of them, save Emily.

Same difference actually – which is why my family is still being shunned by some of the Stohlfutz clan for something our Grandfather did.

(Old Man S kept calling him English. He was not just Siberian but had an almost pathological hatred for anything remotely English (other than the Irish who hated the English as much as he did). Old Man S used the E-word one too many times and Grandpap popped him a serious one right on the schnozz. There are still parts of Lancaster County where we use the Old Wench’s maiden name.)

The wine may have tarnished the manly thing a little though.

Dame Edna??? I didn’t know she was in peril!!!

(The OW visited something she came across in London called the Udderbelly Festival. And people wonder why we’ve lasted so long.)

Growing up, my buddy’s house is a 2-car wide, straight-in driveway, with a 2-car garage at the end of it. There were separate doors, with a post between them. In front of the post was a bush/shrub/small tree. It died. (awww). His dad tried to remove it; however the roots had obviously grown under the blacktop. He hooked a tow rope to their riding mower, which was pretty kewl as I’ve never seen a mower do a wheelie before (or since). However, the bush/shrub/small tree didn’t budge. :frowning:

Not to be defeated, he disconnected the the mower & tied the end of the rope to the tow hitch on the SS Bonneville. He then got in the car, put it in gear, & slowly stepped on the gas, &…nothing. :frowning:

A little more gas, the bush/shrub/small tree bent a little but…that was it. :frowning:
A little more gas & the driveway finally gave up. The bush/shrub/small tree went over the car, over the rest of the driveway, & most of the way across the street before returning to Earth.

Thus endeth the story of the first bush/shrub/small tree in low-Earth orbit! :o :smack:

LOL! Would have been something to see (at a safe distance).

It’s been an unusual evening over here. We noticed the AC wasn’t working well at all, and it kept growing a layer of ice. Handy Hubby to the rescue.

Note a few minor details: this is the first place I’ve lived in that had central heating/AC. DH is an apprentice electrician (in need of a job), with no actual training on HVAC, but with good mechanical and analysis skills, plus a healthy sense of his own abilities and limitations in repair situations.

DH managed to get a cover off that I wouldn’t have thought would come off, and found a lot of dust, which he removed. He then took it into his head to check out the underside of the unit, which required opening the “door” (I don’t know the correct name for this) the filter lives behind, removing the filter, then sliding into the opening in a way rather like going under a car. He discovered YEARS of dirt and gunge and ick, that he’s quite certain pre-dated our moving in. (Note that some time after we moved in, we discovered there was no filter installed, which I hadn’t known to look for. This was corrected, and we’ve been keeping up on filter maintenance since then. We just renewed our lease and are going into our fourth year in this apartment.)

Much cursing, vacuuming, spraying, and scrubbing later (with the cat locked in the bedroom to keep her from “helping”), he reports that he got it about as clean as he reasonably could, and the AC is now running. No detectable icing up, and we should be down to a temperature at which I should be able to sleep fairly soon. DH even thinks that the cleanup should help our power bill by improving the system’s efficiency.

WhenI was a teen, Sis and I were helping Dad tear down an old house (slave labor, yanno). When we got it down to the frame, he climbed up the extension ladder, hooked the log chain around the intersection of the main vertical and horizontal beams, came down and hooked the other end to the truck for the final tear down.

He put his old truck in granny and inched forward. Just about the time the frame began to move forward, the log chain snapped. It laid tracks over the hood of his old green truck and cracked the windshield. Sis and I learned some colorful new vocabulary that afternoon.

The production of Into the Woodswas good, if modified. It was performed by a youth theatre troupe, so was toned down, but still excellent. I also got a mini tour of the second floor by one of the managers during intermission.

Now, it’s time to hit the hay.

Classic video of a bunch of guys trying to pull down a branch with their car.

I think that’s a rear-wheel drive too. Ouch!

I’m pretty sure this thread is the reason I was dreaming about Amish guys wearing bald wigs. Very strange night. But I’m up, breakfasting, caffeinating, and trying to keep things quiet so **FCD **can sleep a bit more. When I hear him in the shower, I’ll clean the kitchen, then go shower myself. I’ve got to finish packing the car, then I can hit the road. Somewhere in there, I’ll need to water my new grass patches.

Much excitement in store this afternoon. After I get to Mom’s and check out the light and extension cord situation, she and I will go to Home Depot for stuff. Then I’ll install her new lights and either repair or replace her extension cord, depending on which cord it is. She had one that I told her to throw away last year - the damned thing was a fire hazard. I’ll also have to put AdBlock on her computer - she said pop-ups are driving her crazy. While I’m at it, I’ll run a few clean-up programs for her.

Then tomorrow is the party - mostly family, but some friends. Weather permitting, we’ll be out around the pool. I’m hoping I can bail after a couple of hours, especially considering I’ll have been there overnight. We shall see.

Yesterday, I got a couple of emails from my very first boyfriend - he had scanned some photos of me from when we were in Memphis for our early electronics training. OMG - was I really that young?? They’ll appear in upcoming TBT posts on FB.

And so begins another day. Happy Saturday!!

I once saw a video - maybe on America’s Funniest Home Videos - of a guy pulling down a tree using his truck. His rope was a little short. He pulled the tree right down on the cab of the truck. :smack:

Up, caffeinated, off to work.

Moooommmmmm!, you were dreaming of Ruble doing a Yul Brenner impersonation?:dubious:

I’m pretty sure Yul Brenner never had an ill-fitting plastic scalp…

It’s my last day before I go away. Much to be done. We have to board the cat, and I’m worried about it, but I hope it’ll go fine.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN 'Tis 75 Amurrkin out with a predicted high of 95 for the day. Gonna be hawt but interestin’ly enough, the humidity is kinda low for around here. I noticed the grass is not wet.

Today’s plan include stagin’ the Parish Hall over to the church house for VBS, the gettin’ of ice since I’m there, and some quality cee-mint pond time. JDD and Partner are comin’ over to hang and we shall grill steaks for dindin. I’m lookin’ forward to an afternoon of chillin’ and grillin’.

I need more caffeine and rumbly tummy demands sustenance. Then, I must purtify enough to be presentable.

Happy Sattidy Y’all!
