The Mandalorian Season 3 [Open Spoilers]

while watching a reaction video on youtube, there was a discussion on the stormtrooper type"s beskar not being as good as the mandalorian’s. that it wasn’t as thick, or was it mass produced? pressed out, not forged?

i had a thought on why the beskar moff gideon’s crew didn’t work as well as the mandalorian’s do.

could it be the water? when the armorer makes beskar she adds “living water” from mandalore to the water barrel. i’m thinking others wouldn’t know to do that. that the living water adds a bit of something to the metal.

I was really hoping for a Moff Gideon/Skinny Pete scene. That, or Skinny Pete showing off his tulaberry plants in the farm.

The beskar worked perfectly, everyone just ignores that its just a helmet, chest piece and thigh pads. The Mandalorians were a lot better at getting around it. It was kinda like John Wick fighting those armored guys at the end of the third movie, as long as you target the unarmored areas you are going to hurt them. The Mandalorians are just better fighters than the stormtroopers.

i did notice that din would target the joint areas, ankles, knees, etc.

I was vaguely amused that they renamed him “Din Grogu.” Man, just when everybody’s finally stopped calling him “Baby Yoda” and gotten used to “Grogu,” they change it again!

There are also arm pads and shoulder guards on the Mandalorian armor, but those troopers were fully armored (except for the joints)

I think it’s rate of hits. You can see them all - even mandalorian - stumble a bit when hit, especially with multiple hits in rapid succession. Like at the end when they used blasters to help push Gideon off the edge.

I thought it was neat that the jet pack from the troopers just hooked right up to the mandalorian armor, and that they didn’t seem to run out of jetpack fuel this time like they did when chasing the giant dragon.

We noticed that, too; it certainly suggests that the Fundamentalist wing of the Mandalorians may be loosening up a bit.

Geez, I hope so, too, but I noticed that, in grand comic-book-style fiction tradition, we never saw a body.

They were not. That armor covers as little as the regular mandalorians. The only one who had a full iron man suit was Gideon.

He sure looked incinerated… but after the flames cleared we didn’t see the armor. Even if he had been vaporized, the beskar probably would have survived. Maybe melted, at worst, but still there.

And it wasn’t. At least, not visible in the shots that would have shown that.

Darth Moff Gideon is a good villain, even if a bit prone to chewing the scenery, so it wouldn’t be tragic to have him return as an arc villain. S4 seems to be setting up an “Adventures of Mando and Son” weekly episodic format complete with Enemy of the Week, but who knows? This writing crew seems to love Big Stories.

One thing that puzzled me. Gideon displayed superhuman strength in that last fight. (For instance , crushing Bo Katan’s hand and the Darksaber… through her beskar gauntlet.)

Did we ever see any explanation for that at any point? Is his battle armor enhanced? Way he a cyborg in the best Skywalker tradition? Rule of cool?

His armor was clearly making hydraulic sounds whenever he did anything. That was for sure some kind of iron man suit and not just armor.

I think that it’s not only made of beskar, but it’s powered armor.

I’ll have to listen more closely next time I watch. I didn’t pick up on that (probably because of a fair bit of ambient noise in the room at the time).

I noticed it too - it sounds like it’s literally the same sound effect Tony Stark’s Iron Man suit makes, and why not? Disney owns them too.

But it definitely wasn’t fully articulated powered armor like Iron Man. IM armor is all rigid pieces linked together, so you can get powered armor effects. But Gideon’s suit was definitely flexible over a lot of its surface - if you pause some of his scenes he’s got shiny black rigid plates over a duller, flexible black body suit you can clearly see at the joints, especially the hips - it actually looks like rubber or neoprene.

It was certainly better than the season had been up to that point. I wouldn’t call it awesome. It was good.

So the Mandalorian rocket packs don’t have the fuel to chase after a pterodactyl but they can get you into orbit?

It made motorized sounds, so yeah, it’s powered.

My Fan Wank is that the ones that ran out of fuel were the primitive religious Mandos’ equipment. They’re obviously less advanced than the Mainstream Mandos’ equipment. Essentially, they’re Space Amish, who refuse to use fuel-efficient backpacks for religious reasons.

I have no doubt we’ll be seeing him again. The man’s been cloning himself, after all. And no one keeps all their clones in one basket, surely.

OB

“Somehow, Gideon returned.”

The dead speak! The galaxy has heard a mysterious broadcast, a threat of REVENGE in the sinister voice of the late MOFF GIDEON, who somehow wasn’t incinerated that time he was incinerated.

LADY BO-KATAN dispatches secret agents to gather intelligence, while BABY YODA, the last hope of Disney’s marketing department, is still cute and makes little baby noises.

Meanwhile, bounty hunter THE MANDALORIAN is apparently back to bounty hunting, but that won’t last part Season 4, Episode 1…
