Time for me to get ready. I need to leave around noon and I have to stop and pick up sodas and tea. I think a trip to Dunkin’Donuts as well.
I assume 7/11 is open today.
I have a full tank of gas in the car and 4 more skeins of yarn that were on sale. I’ve finished lunch and I saw the opening ceremony for the rose parade, but I don’t think I’ll be watching the thing - televised parades irritate me - especially the lip-sync singers. Maybe I can find something on Netflix…
I did??? I didn’t see that. I’ll have to go back and look.
Our neighbors were mercifully silent or somewhere else. The older dog appreciates that.
We were introduced to Cards Against Humanity last night.
Last night, after watching the fireworks, I walked 4 and a half kilometres in sub-zero temperatures all the way to the night bus. It took about 45 minutes.
I figured if I could do that, I could do anything.
Remember the Little People, Rosie!
Happy 2014!!
If I’m not at work glued to a computer, I’m not here very much. Back to work this Monday.
At work today. Our contract does not give us much reason to want the day off: to take off New Year’s we have to burn a vacation day. Work it we get another day off of choice OR double time.
Pretty silly - we have a full staff of shooters sharing very little work.
Burning time the past few days watching this Russian Car Crash site on YouTube. There’s a lot of them.
It has been interesting watching - I have drawn a few things from viewing the videos:
- Road rage is universal.
- The inception of all accidents (with very few exceptions) is preventable. Avoiding them once they start is not easy.
- I am amazed how many people get tossed around in a huge wreck ony to climb out of the car like nothing happened. Board, collar, rescue squad cutouts? Nope, not there.
- There are a lot of people who think they have the right to break the rules for their benefit. I certainly see it here in DC but it’s much worse there.
- Large difference in velocity is the biggest factor for accidents.
- There are a lot of above ground pipes in Russia.
- Overhead wires for electric busses are scary.
- Even though I don’t know the language the ideas still come through pretty strong when you hear peaple yelling.
- It is curious to see a culture that doesn’t flinch when something happens in front of them. No change in the tone of voice in a conversation, pedestrians keep on walking. Many people don’t even stop to look.
- There are a few moments of humor that cross all borders.
Conclusions may seem obvious, I mean we all *know *not to drive like a nut, etc. But to see it again, and again, and again - it kinda sinks in a bit more.
Personally though I have already significantly reduced the furor of my driving habits, I think I will take this time to see if I can totally lose any temptation to get angry at other drivers. Just try to laugh them off. It’s so easy to get angry, but in the end what does it matter? How do I win by getting pissed off?
I’ll report back in a few months, tell y’all how it’s going. I’m curious how well it will work in the DMV…
Happy New Year everyone!
Gots me a big pot of veggie-beef-noodle soup simmering on the stove, without the noodles at the moment. The veggies need to simmer for a bit. It’ll be supper, plus lunch many times over. Yum.
I’ve been watch a series on Netflix set in 14th century England - Cynthia Nixon is in it, and she’s a big-time manipulative bitch. And yet she looks so angelic…
That’s all I’ve got. Back to the couch with me.
Lousy weather seems to have contributed to many of those mishaps
A large time was had by all. Good food. Good drinks. Good folks. Anywho, everyone has gone to wherever they went after they left da cave. The kitchen is clean and the dishwasher is dishwashin’ away. OYKW left to go to his place after assistin’ with cleanup. All is quiet. Bear is tahrd.
Indeed, ‘speed not appropriate’ is the term I believe.
I also really enjoy listening to what everyone has on their radios as they drive.
I’m totally stuffed on chicken and birthday cake.
The soup was pretty good. As soon as it cools a bit, I’ll dip it into some tupperware containers for lunches, etc. Meanwhile, knittage continues!
Not even seven o’clock and I want to go beddy bye. Pitiful ain’t it!
I worked, dealt with a loon, came home and napped. I had to turn the heart, the house is feeling Wisconsin like* I got a sinus thing going, I’m hacking like Bill the Cat.
FCM, I made Chinese chicken egg noodle soup last night.
swampy, are you getting old and gray?
*Woo! Packers!
I was kind of tired today because I went to bed a little after 3 AM last night and then got up at about 8:30.
Good old late-night partying… I drank quite a bit. Of coffee. good times.
Three weeks sober today.
Wisconsin like? Does that mean cheesey? Also, how does one turn the heart. Does one flutter ones eyelashes?
What? I’m gray???
Well if you want to turn a woman’s heart, do her dishes. I had a lady throw herself at me after I did that.
And I was going for the cold bit, but cheese would be good with dinner tonight.
Getting???
More NCIS and knitting. Soup is in the fridge. I’ll be crashing in another hour. Two more work days till the weekend. Still missing my sweetie.
