Sorry about cat.
As to your other point, if you were in the US, you would’ve probably sat next to a law-abiding citizen who had a gun on one of your many public transit trips. Those types don’t make it known they’re carrying a gun by flashing it.
As to flytrap’s point, Bernie Goetz supposedly didn’t pull his gun out until he felt threatened from an attempted mugging. He was ultimately convicted of only carrying an unlicensed firearm.
When I was a teenage would-be juvenile delinquent (on the honor roll and geeky, so no go), my friends and I would throw rocks (and bottles, which were more available than rocks in Florida) to try to put out the “l” on the Publix sign. That’s a hallowed tradition among southern youngsters, I hear.
I made Doctor Zhivago Shrimp from “scratch” as Grandmother plant was wont to say.
It went over well, although I was told it could have been more spicy hot.
I added a little merken to my standard sweet and sour sauce:
1/8 cup rice vinegar, 1/8 cup white cooking wine, 3 tablespoons brown sugar and a teaspoon or so of that savory Gift of G-d, Silver Swan soy sauce.
I have leftovers for breakfast. I do hope that I can keep the sugar snap peas somewhat crispy.
Since the store bought contained baby corn (how did a New World vegetable find it’s way into Chinese cuisine? But I digress.) I included some cut ears. As a snack, I sauteed some intact ears in olive oil, seasoned with a salt sent to us from Chile, containing salt, merken and oregano. It was very well received.
He could have been in the old Ecunet system. A lot of ECUSA and related ended up there at one time or another. It folded about 6 years back or so.
Work was fine. We only had about 85k packages to handle. Tomorrow I’m pulling a double shift and they are talking 175k. I may not see you all again until Sunday. :smack:
Same here but our pizza was leftover meatloaf on a plate. Well at least the plate was round.
I do, the OW does sometimes, and I doubt we are very unique at all. Often during the times when I’m waiting for a bus, the city is pretty empty and finding a cop or any other help just isn’t going to happen. There have been reports that our county has been issuing as many as 100 concealed carry permits a week sometimes. News reports drive some of that but more so is the realization that police protection just isn’t what it used to be.
We shall (actually OYKW already has) now retire to the budoir. We’s tahrd from today’s activity and need to get up earlyish in the mornin’ to make the sojourn up to Ye Olde Hometowne to visit my family tomorrow. We originally entertained the idea of spendin’ the night, but with the two of us, one can drive up and one can drive back so it’ll be an all day trip which works for me.
Six, seven years ago, I went with a cow orker who needed a ride to Walgreen’s for a flu shot, what the hell, I got mine, too.
It felt and looked liked the son of a bitch hit me with a baseball bat.
IMO, the problem is not the object, but the user. Besides, since when do criminals obey ANY law that restricts their access to alcohol/drugs/weapons/etc.?
In other news, normal enough irk day. Ugly “clopen” though, since co-lead begged me to trade shifts with her tomorrow, so I agreed to it (she does NOT get that intense about anything without cause). Home, nomming on buttered rolls, with leftover turkey (and probably stuffing and gravy) next up on my plate. Also planning to watch “Dead of Winter” (yeah, it’s the Weather Channel thing on the Donner Party).
It was my step-father’s 50th birthday today. He celebrated by eating half of a chocolate cake to himself, playing Rockband, getting hammered, and ending the night playing pin the tail on the donkey (I’m not kidding. I walked next to him because he was drunkenly teetering with the blindfold on haha!). All in all, an excellent birthday.
Tomorrow we finish fully moving into the new house. Renovations will continue, room at a time. My S/O already knocked the smaller of 2 walls down in the Living Room. SO messy. I’m glad he did it before we moved in - we’re going to have to hang plastic when he does the other one. I love how it’s all coming together. We already live together, but we live in a double-wide. This is our first HOUSE. My biggest excitement is the huge windows everywhere. I am a houseplant-hoarder. It’s going to be a jungle in there.
Lastly:** LOREENA MCKENNITT IS COMING TO MY STATE! **My mom used to lull me to sleep as a baby with her music. We’re buying tickets next Friday. It’s a week after my birthday. I couldn’t be more excited.
**luci **- it sounds like you’re where we were 11 years ago. Our house was built in '75 by the folks who sold it to us, and I swear, they never remodeled or did anything other than a little paint and carpets (the old ones were piled 3 layers deep on the basement floor.) You weren’t here for the tales of veined mirrored tiles and hideous wallpaper borders and Z-brick and contact paper on the walls… <shudder>
In the course of 4 months, we removed one wall, built 2 half-walls, and moved the doorway between the kitchen and dining room about 6’ along its wall. We relocated the stove, added a dishwasher and a water line for the fridge icemaker. We put in a new, bigger kitchen window and replaced some hideous paneling with sheetrock. Plus we installed all new kitchen cabinets and built our own counters. The only thing we had done was the installation of the carpet. We did all of the work ourselves after coming home from our jobs - yep, we were lots younger then.
It’s satisfying to make your home your own, but living in a construction zone can be a pain. While our kitchen was torn up, I was washing dishes in the bathtub and cooking in the microwave or toaster oven. I’d hate dealing with that today - thankfully, we’ve pretty much done everything that needs doing. Anyway, take lots of pics because you’ll enjoy looking at before and after. And don’t feel guilty if you need to take a day off from working - chances are you’ll need it. Finally, better thee than me!
Up early because I’m just used to being up at this hour. In fact, normally by this time, I’m in the office. **FCD **is sleeping, as are both cats. Higgs has been fed and she’s trying to get my attention. We’ve got a mild day ahead, and rain/cold on its way. I may take advantage of the mild and wash the windows. Or not. We shall see.
Yay for a real house, Luci.
I woke on my own around 5:30 feeling like I’d gotten enough sleep. But, since it’s morning, and I am only just starting my coffee, blurfage ensues.
