So I’ve been doin’ on-line trainin’ for new procedures I never intend to use. However, I have not had a wrong answer on a test as of yet. I’s smart! Actually I’s boooooooooooooooooooooored outta my skull. ICK!
swampy, my cow-irker is retiring in September and has an automatic countdown dingus on her desk. Next week the dingus reading will be under a hunnert days. I will miss her, but am happy she gets to retire. How many days for you???
In bad news, gotti’s husband died Monday. There is a separate condolences thread.
Damn.
Lunch time at last. But I’ve still got 4+hours to go.
Seriously re-thinking retirement. Maybe my attitude will change with some sleep…
Was away & cutoff from outside world for a few days & just now catching up. No cell/internet coverage, so only carried phone as an extra camera. No place to spend any $ so didn’t need to carry wallet, no use for the house or car keys so no need to carry them either. Yanno, sometimes it’s nice to be able to wear pocketless shorts other than at the gym.
Lesse, I’ll smak Doggio because he probably deserves it & I’ll smak flytrap just because that’ll lower my stress level. Other than than, rosie’s sig around.
Apparently, my job duties were changed while I was OOO.
::Puts on Carnac hat::
Swampy, you are no longer retiring, you will still leave the current job but you will be applying for a new job with Time (the magazine folks). They are starting a new food, specifically breakfast (online?) publication & are looking to hire a Bacon Critic
Seriously, they’re looking for someone to write about (& obviously taste) BACON!
metal mouse, it sounds like you’re one spatula up the chef scale from my neighbor, who has flatware for four, a microwave and a skillet as the sum of his kitchen equipment. It’s a good thing that his daughters take pity on him and have him over for supper a couple of nights a week.
EKJDS, living where a lot of music videos are shot, it’s always fun to find locations that you know.
butters, it’s speculated that Captain Kuss didn’t eject to avoid crashing into a nearby apartment complex instead of the field. I realize that’s what he was trained to do, but I admire his courage to carry it out at the expense of his own life.
wet one, DMCV or GDEV just doesn’t have the same ring as TGIF.
The shop that’s doing my photos has promised them by five this afternoon. Yay! It looks like I’ll be outta here around 1:30.
sleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep
In Beetlejuice, the newly dead receive the Handbook for the Recently Deceased. We need a Handbook for the Recently Widow(er)ed.
For his last day, I was able to get him out of the hospital and home for hospice care as one of his long-held wishes was to not die in a hospital with all of the tubes, wires, and beeping. Fortunately one of our friends knew exactly who to lean on at the hospital to make the arrangements. We had about a dozen friends that were able to get to the house on Sunday to be with him. He had been largely non-verbal since last Wednesday - I think the tumor threw off a clot, causing a stroke, but by his overall demeanor, I could tell that he knew he was back at home, but he was unable to say as much.
You still have a vehicle with a carburator?
Well, I do have a pretty full complement of pots and pans, and can manage to boil water and season foods, so I am at no risk of starvation.
gotti, I already replied in the other thread, but my deepest and most heartfelt condolences for your loss.
Was actually active today, despite waking up at 0430. Did 4 loads of laundry to empty out my baskets, visited four stores and bought 3 pairs of cargo pants, some batteries, five dish towels, and a can of permethrin, which is an insect repellant you put on your clothes, which was recommended for my trip (you DO NOT) spray it on yourself, as it will do evil things, according to the instructions.
And I don’t even feel like taking a nap…yet.
One of my soccer games was cancelled, so I only have two to referee tomorrow…weather permitting, tunder-boomers are predicted.
**gotti **- I can’t pretend to have any idea of what you’re going thru right now, but I offer you the best cyberhug possible and my deepest sympathies. There will be better days ahead and you’ll get there in your own time.
Howdy Y’all! I hereby declare it to be the weekend. So mote it be. Magic intartoobz pizza and sallit for dindin. I shall even go and retrieve the pizza from the place is shows up after it goes through the intartoobz and pay for it even. I’m so nice!
Wetone I have forty irk days until retirement. Actually it’s thirty cause I have planned it out so my last two weeks of “irk” will be vacation time. I decided to do that as opposed as to takin’ it as a lump sum. I feel like I’ll come out better with it bein’ just regular pay tax wise.
{{{gotti}}} I’m glad he had the chance to die at home like he wanted. Grieve all you need for as long as you need. Come in here to vent, or ramble on, or for whatever. We’re here for ya.

We had a nice little shower. I got some seeds planted just in time. I sat outside for a bit and saw one of the baby rabbits that’s living in the backyard. The breeze was blowing in the right direction so I could smell the honeysuckle that’s growing on the fence.
I found out the weeds are Queen Anne’s lace. I know it’s a weed but I like it anyway, so it stays.

We are barely into hurricane season and already have been told to batten down the hatches for something brewing out there. I have done all I can as I really don’t have a lot of hatches here at my place.
**Red[/B] I read that and I agree he is a hero and very courageous. Still very sad.
The bolded part is kind of awesome; the rest, less so. Sorry for your loss.

{{{gotti}}} I am glad you were able to bring him home as he wished. We’re here for you.
Last night the girl had her end of year dance. She wore a dress for the first time in years and was quite fetching. She attended despite her hair with its blatantly blue streaks (not in school policy). She had a blast.
It’s raining. More to follow this weekend. I’m thinking no mowage will occur. With luck, it’ll hold off long enough tomorrow for me to get a load or 2 of clothes dried. I should probably shop for a dryer.
Always something.
Dindin has been ingested and sloth has ensued. All is good here at da cave.
- One hundred and four. Degrees. Amurkin. It may be a dry heat but I still don’t like it.
I asked my daughter, who was moaning about the heat, if she was starting to see some positive in Oregon. She said, “Well, no, when it’s hot the swimming pool heats up.” :smack: She won’t go swimming anymore. I pointed this out and she asked for a new bathing suit. I’m not sure if I walked into that one or if she was squirming like a fish.
Speaking of fish, tomorrow the fish tank goes, courtesy of Craigslist. It’s just too dang big for me to take care of properly, and moving it would be a right PITA.
Off to search for some movie, any movie, to watch tonight. Air conditioning is a wonder.
I’ve just got so much stuff now that he “had to have” like various quilting and sewing things. I let him hold onto the belief that his cancer was treatable even though every journal article I read about it used words like dismal, dire, and grim. He had every faith that the semi-experimental treatment was going to work, so he bought quilting templates that are still in their wrappers, and a mother ship cabinet for the embroidery machine. Said cabinet weighs 485 pounds and cost more than the average person’s first car. The sewing machine sells for as much as a basic new car. My task now is to hope there’s someone in the area that wants the combo. First $11,000 takes it and a couple hundred spools of embroidery thread, and that would be at a loss. Plus, there’s the serger that threads itself. Think he managed to use it for ten minutes. At least it’s fairly small and shippable, and will probably sell for about $2000 on eBay.
If it was a much more basic machine, I’d consider keeping it, but I don’t do embroidery, and hanging onto a top of the line machine and not using it is like keeping an inherited Lamborghini or Bugatti even though you don’t drive. Ugh…
