The Unofficial Start of Summer MMP

It’s raining. Big surprise. Blech.

I gave my sweetie a haircut, then looked over his hospital paperwork. He’s scheduled for surgery at 9:30-11:50. That means to allow for recovery plus getting settled in his room, I should be able to get back home in plenty of time to feed the dog and let her out to pee. The hospital is about 45 minutes from here, so once I come home, I’m staying, unless there are complications. I just want to make sure my sweetie is taken care of before I leave him.

I’m expecting two long, tedious, mostly boring days ahead. But in the end, it’ll definitely be worth it. I hope…

Neighborhood yoots are playing with firecrackers and screamers. Oh joy.

So many things…

Meeks, I don’t think we’ve interacted much, but add my congrats to your quick but heartfelt nuptials.

Swampy, I’m just completing my first month of retirement, and I think you’ll love it.

FCM, good luck on both the new dryer search and FCD’s surgery. Not sure which one is the most critical, however…:p;)

Sunny, Good on the move, hope it works out like you plan, but do keep Yellowstone and the Tetons on your schedule if you’ve never been. Went as a young teen and then again about 4 years ago, it is still a magical place, and the Tetons are spectacular in their own right.

Sari, hope you can find a good handyman, stairs can be a major danger (I don’t have any in my house, since it is a 1-level and Ali-bama in general doesn’t have basements (must be a Yankee thing).

I finish this and I guess I’ll have no more excuses to not go out and mow the lawn. Oh joy.

Congratulations!

Is this something usually done on Memorial Day, or is it just those guys?

We don’t have Memorial Day in Canada. We have Remembrance Day (November 11, the American Veterans’ Day), which seems to me to be sort of a catch-all day to commemorate everyone.

Your part of Alabammy is much like middle Tennessee in that you have to blast through rock if you want a basement most places. Some homes built into the side of a hill (my SIL’s house comes to mind) have basements but they’re the exception.

The dumbasses around here use any excuse to shoot off fireworks. However, I’ve only heard 'em once. That was Sattidy night and only for about fifteen minutes. Maybe they decided it’s just too hawt out for that. Nah. They’ll be at it July 4th for sure.

MetalMouse I’ve always said that on my first day of retirement I want to set up a lawn chair in the front yahd and sit there drinkin’ coffee, pointin’, and laughin’ at all the suckers goin’ to irk.

Oh and I had me some Mayfield Turtle Tracks ice cream. YUM!

Got the tablet charging up for tomorrow. I’ve got games and some e-books to occupy my time in the surgical waiting room. As I recall, they also have a TV, but it’s never on a channel that I’d want to watch, so better that I take my own entertainment.

Here’s hoping I can sleep tonight. I don’t need to be a zombie tomorrow…

There’s an old story I heard years ago, about a fellow who retired after 45 years of working. His fellow workers asked him what he was going to do. “I’m going to sit in mah rockin’ chair for six months” he said. Well, one of his friends asked, what are you going to do after those six months? The old fellow replied "Start Rockin’:

Hmmm…Cracker Barrel sells rocking chairs…hmmm…

Yep, everything is on a slab (like mine) or has a crawlspace. The only places theiy are practical are in the hills.

Lawn Mowage completed. Considering dinner, but not really hungry.

Some day let me know what the black bar on the bottom of the address label reads. I have no idea which of three sort centers actually services your area.

Been home a bit but when I opened the fridge to get dinner out to heat, these three beers attacked me. The first two died quickly but this last one is fighting back.

CONGA RATS TO MEEKS!!!

One was too hot, the other too cold, but the last was just right?

Isn’t this a picture of chicken?

Folks depend on CNN to report the news accurately ?

:dubious:

Conga rats to Meeks. I wish you a long and happy marriage.

Today I went to the sto and made ribs in the oven. Yum. Went to my volunteer gig at the horse adoption center. Orlando the donkey will be 50 next month and there is a party for him. Now I’m home watching Where Wafles Dare. I am off tomorrow since it’s my birfday. Having a massage, a pedicure, and going out to dinner.

Metal Mouse basements are standard equipment with houses around here, even though we are south of the Mason-Dixon.
I fell though some rotted basement stairs once. It hurt, but I didn’t get hurt - the carpeting which hastened the rot also helped to keep me from getting hurt.

I know somebody who fell through a storm drain and almost lost his leg to infection because of all the metal and dirt that got embedded in it.

It’s been a lazy day again today. I should be ashamed of myself, lazing about for 3 days in a row.

Why is it when I’m drinking things always end up back at Bears?

Maybe because being a Vikings fan isn’t suffering enough any more?

Congratulations!

I’m officially off sick, due to Headcold of Doom. It’s not so much that the cold would prevent me from working as that it would prevent my poor coworkers from doing so (coughcoughCOUGH AAAAGKHHKHKHKH coughcough). Got a doctor’s appointment to see if I get official (paid) medical leave for a couple days or take something stronger than the pharmacist can give me.

Turned out the fuse wasn’t the only issue (it was confirmed to be bad). On-site maintenance guy said the problem was over his head, so someone else has been summoned, should be here tomorrow. Better be, considering the weather forecast.

I guess it’s good that inside didn’t get above 80, with outside temps in the upper 90s, but that’s still too warm for inside, IMO.

One virtue to renting: I don’t have to worry about coming up with the money to fix these things. Just have to call maintenance.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to work in a bit.
