The Walking Dead; 3.02 "Sick" (open spoilers)

This is exactly what I thought he was going to say, and I agree that it may well happen.

In the comics the two walkers are her boyfriend Mike and his best friend Terry, so there’s probably an emotional component as to why she keeps them around as well as practical application.

Me too, and I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s the case. T-Dog is not Tyrese but it’s a common enough theory and the writers have already shown they’ll play around with continuities since Hershel lost a leg in the TV series while Dale was who lost it in the comics.

Unless Rick’s group is going to meet up with them eventually, I think we have enough characters to deal with on our plate now. Especially since it seems the show is going to introduce even more new characters to interact with the core group.

But in the comics she dispatches them without hesitation when she needs to (which is pretty soon after her introduction), so I think she really only keeps them around for their utility.

I believe the two individuals did something rather unpleasant.

Yes, which is what I was referencing in an earlier post as a psychologic component on why she has the two zombies with her. I guess I could have put it in a spoiler but you know… **TAGS ARE SOOO HAAARRRDD!! **(whine)

I assumed she keeps the Zombies with her so their smell will help her avoid the other Zombies. Similar to when Rick and Glen covered themselves in guts back in Atlanta.

Yes, they are supposed to be a kind of camouflage.

I’m REALLY hoping it catches on.

I’m chuckling at Foghorn Methhorn myself. Good one.

So, is it possible the writers are engaging the audience on a meta level, playing on the idiocy, hand-wringing, and drama of the previous episodes which so many of us found so tedious? Whether they’re doing it on purpose, or it’s just that they’re trying to show the group evolving to survive in a radically different niche from civilization, it’s working.

When Crazy Eyes threw a zombie at Rick, and Rick confronted him about it, I was automatically expecting a drawn-out discussion, Rick agonizing over what to do, and Crazy Eyes eventually becoming a huge threat. I turned to my husband and said, “If I were Rick I’d just . . . [Rick abruptly machetes Crazy Eyes] Holy Shit!” It was awesome.

Then of course Lori goes and does the single dumbest thing ever done on the show (and that’s saying something!). But then again, she’s Lori.

As for the bodies in D block, it looked to me like their hands were zip-tied behind them. Definitely implied that guards executed them all at some point.

I am very hung up on this show, I’ll not miss a minute of it.

But man, it contains some of the worst acting I have seen in some time.

And Daryl, for the love of Mike - put down that unwieldy crossbow and pick up a sharp stick or something already. I wouldn’t be all that much more dumbfounded if he were wheeling around a civil war cannon.
mmm

Aw, I liked the nursing home guys. I always thought I would have found a large building away from the city, clear it out then go back and invite the nursing home gang to it. It would have been a lot of old folks to care for but it would have added a lot of manpower.

Crossbows are cool.

Daryl’s got knives and whatnot. Also, the crossbow is their group’s most useful weapon, being a silent ranged weapon with relatively easily manufactured ammo.

It’s most likely the best weapon in the entire group:

  1. He doesn’t have to get nearly as close to a target as he would with a knife or “sharp stick.”
  2. Re-usable ammo. Can’t emphasize how important this is.
  3. Silent. No noise = no walkers.
  4. Also great for hunting food. Squirrels, Deer, even Fish if they are close enough to the surface.

Now that we know how the infection works, I would think a building full of the elderly would probably be the most dangerous place on Earth. Better lock them in their rooms at night.

Question: Is there an in-show reason given for why they’re apparently reluctant to kill any more than the minimum number of walkers necessary to achieve an immediate goal.

I can understand not putting yourself at risk to get one more. But, for example, when they were getting the female walker to practice c-sections on, there were three other walkers at the fence. Rather then just kill all four, which would have been easy and safe, they killed her and then distracted the other three while the body was retrieved.

But he seems to use it even in situations where it’s not an optimal weapon. In close-quarters fighting and room-by-room searches, I would think such a huge weapon would just get in the way. In the latter situation it has often seemed he had to go through a lot of unnecessary movement just to get through a door.

I’ve seen him with a pistol doing a room to room.
