The Walking Dead 5.04 "The Slab" (open spoilers)

No, I google too little. From wackopedia:

Slabtown or Slab Town was a red-light district established in Atlanta in the 1840s, and located off Decatur Street (on the present site of Grady Memorial Hospital).”

O, the whore-er.

Missed the winder:

ETA: If someone had given me this list of Atlanta communities and invited me to pick the red-light district, Slabtown was not the one I’d have picked:

[ul]
[li]Beaver Slide[/li][li]Buttermilk Bottom[/li][li]Darktown[/li][li]Jackson Row[/li][li]Jenningstown[/li][li]Lightning[/li][li]Shermantown[/li][li]Slabtown[/li][li]Tanyard Bottom[/li][li]Tight Squeeze[/li][/ul]

NM, I see you found it.

So, Belle Watling-ville.

“You’re not really here for the fishing, are you?”

You could add the current major Atlanta thoroughfare of “Beaver Ruin” to your list.

I bearly laughed…

Somehow I’m guessing you still can’t get a parking space in Midtown on a Saturday night.

Carol and Darryl will not hook up. She is a mother figure to him. She doesn’t have the hots for him or anyone, really, being an abused wife all those years. I can see Beth and him deciding to ‘repopulate’ the earth, someday, maybe. Only as their duty. If I were Beth, I wouldn’t leave my ‘family’ for anything. Knocked up in zombie world? F that!

Neither is Quentin Tarantino.

I haven’t had time to read the thread, and now it’s three pages long; so I’m going to post without reading, and it will already have been said by others.

I’m glad to have found out where Beth is, but the episode felt like a ‘moving the pieces into place’ one. I didn’t really buy the Dawn character. I could see her motivation, but I don’t think the actress pulled it off well. She’s supposed to keep discipline, but her ‘control’ of Gorman just seemed like lip service. I don’t believe a woman like her character is supposed to be would allow rape. Either she’d win a conflict and females would be relatively safe, or she’d lose and wouldn’t be in her position. I’m also not satisfied by the escape scene. ‘Oh, we need an escape scene and some more zombies. OK, let’s just do this…’

Next week will be Abe and Maggie and Glen. In two weeks we’ll go back to the church and find out who came with Darryl. I’m guessing it will be Noah, who escaped from the hospital and I’m guessing joined up with Darryl and Carol. That gives Rick & Co. the path back to Beth and Carol.

Yeah, I noticed that. I watched Homeland right after The Walking Dead, and as soon as one of the drugs was mentioned I thought it would be weird if the other came up too. And then it did.

When the doctor said “I want to show you something” (or whatever he said) and revealed the walkers, I was expecting Beth to say something like “now let me show you something” and take the pole/rod from him. Stab “That’s one.” Stab “Two.” Stab “Three…”

I said to the SO, ‘What, they don’t have crowbars in that building?’

She’s a cop. She said that the patients should “keep my (officers or people) happy.”
The police violence was illustrated not only with the lollypop, but in how they put Beth on the ground and handcuffed her. I believe it is the classic situation where some grow food and some protect them, and the protectors become the ruling class.

I think the excuse was implied toward the beginning. She allows some things to go on “for the greater good”; I assumed she meant things like rapey cop guy. One of the cops said something like “She was supposed to be mine” about Beth, so it seems there’s some, uh, servicing going on there. Quim pro quo.

Yes, she allows rape to go on ‘for the greater good’. I don’t buy it. That’s what the script said, but I don’t believe that the type of person Dawn is supposed to be would stand for it. It doesn’t seem true to the character to me.

Lazy lazy writing. Worst episode ever.

I think of Dawn as another Claudius Nero Germanicus. The Praetorian Guard made him Caesar and allowed him to remain as Caesar. Claudius was aware that the Guard could replaced him at any time, if they ever thought they had a reason to.

Good point!

You must have just started watching this season.
