The Walking Dead: 5.13 "Forget" (open spoilers)

Ron Moore did the same thing in Battlestar Galactica. Let’s have the character do something cool. Because it’s cool!

But will the writers remember it later on? Is it really part of the character? Was it just cool that one time?

The kid is Zombie bait. He ain’t gonna last “long term”.

And I hope she smacks him down because she’s feisty and smart and I like her.

And then he can rape her, completing his transformation to a villain not unlike the Claimers, or the mauraders who ruined Terminus.

Maybe Carol could start an Alexandria Chapter of PFLAG. Daryl is going to need a support group!

No, no! Daryl needs to start that group!

I don’t recall seeing any gardens or fields, but Barista-turned-Shopkeeper mentioned she does a lot of canning & pickling in addition to smoking her own meats so presumably they’re something. I doubt they’re subsisting entirely on scavenged canned goods. Those former hobbies of her’s now make her one of the more valuable Alexandrians.

Raping or mindless violence would be out of line but they’ve already stolen guns, supplies, and have declared they are willing to take over the compound.

If Janeway told them they had to leave do you really think they would? I don’t. And that’s what it means. They’ll play nice but when push come to shove my money is on team Grimes.

Does that make him a villan? Maybe. Not nearly on part with the claimers or the cannibals at Terminus. And besides it would still be entertaining to watch the decent. Not exactly Walter White but agression in defense or support of family seems defensible.

If they’re planning to make the lack of babies a plot point (and I don’t see why they wouldn’t), I think it will become clear at that point.

Well, they kind of have to - the show would REALLY get boring if they find a nice place to live with nice people and they all live happily ever after.

Janeway always irritated me, too, for the same reasons. (Janeway also irritated me because Kate Mulgrew always looked like she was acting on that show - at least Tovah Feldshuh is a better actor).

I think the Carol scene was kind of ham-handed, too - as others have said, she’s much, much better than that at being a bad-ass.

The problem with the “take-over” scenario… the only people who would actively support a Grimes uprising are Carol and Rick. Not even Daryl would support it at this point if it meant hurting people–he’s already showed that he’ll side against Rick when Rick chooses to go bloody.
Maybe Sascha would support it but she’s awfully fragile right now.
The other members of our group may see the Alexandrians as soft, but that’s not a killing offense and an active take-over would probably lead to blood.

I couldn’t get past her chipmunk sounding voice to notice the acting.

Plop a couple of raisins in Captain Janeway’s beloved coffee when she isn’t looking, and ask her if the ship has a problem with rats.

I asked this earlier… what is the deal with Sascha? Did she decide to leave and go on her own? I didn’t understand what her plan was when Janeway let her out of the gate. Was it a farewell scene, or was she going out hunting or more target practice?

Have they always been able to use the word ‘shit’ on the show? For some reason I noticed it this week. It seems odd because they censor the occasional curse word that slips during the conversation on Talking Dead. Odd because the Walking episodes go into syndication where presumably the curse words would need to be censored or re-dubbed, but Talking is not in syndication, as far as I know.

It can’t be an outright takeover because as you say the rest of the group would not go along and we can’t have our main folks become true villains. I could see a takeover playing out if the current residents of Alexandria do something to provoke the group forcing them to respond. Perhaps they react disproportionately to a violation of rules, they act dangerously stupid, one of Team Grimes is caught doing something (like stealing chocolate) and they need to rally to the defense. In those cases, I could see the Rictatorship playing out pretty quickly.

Janeway: “Carol - you’re under arrest for stealing chocolate. Rick, arrest her.”
Rick: No.
Janeway: [some other lackey] You arrest her.
Rick: I’m not going to let you arrest her today.

I assumed Sasha was simply going walk about and Deanna was bring her ammo (which has to be checked out), and maybe have a little chat. She wouldn’t leave Rick’s group, her family, without saying goodbye. She’s recently lost her brother Tyreese, and bestest buddy Bob. As a former firefighter, I assume the character prefers a family-style environment over going it alone (Daryl-style).

I agree, she was going off for a walk. Maybe shoot some people’s family photographs and generally be PTSD for awhile. They’ve got a doctor, but they could use a psychologist. I’m surprised they haven’t scrounged some textbooks about it. Then again, Deanne has lots of books, so maybe she has.

My daughter, who’s a bit more into the show than I am, tells me that those “family” photos are actually pictures of the crew members taken while sitting on set funiture. That’s one way to get your face on TV.

That’s a nice touch. Thanks for sharing that.

The whole time they’ve been there, Deanne has exiled three men. I don’t think her leadership style is “you’re arrested!”

She’s a poker champ, after all. If if comes down to “you’re arrested/exiled” she won’t ask nicely.

Rick exiled Carol once already. Then she saved Judith & basically the whole group, so Rick would really struggle with exiling Carol again. He probably wouldn’t. Drama.
