The Walking Dead, including both TV and comic, open spoilers [edited title]

I found* Self Help* to be a waste of time, save that it showed Eugene to be a fake and established Abraham’s background.
Does the pump on a firetruck work with the engine off?

The Talking Dead explained that the guys Abraham killed had “raped his family” and that his killing them made his family afraid of him, although the TV show might not choose to follow that.

Is this the thread twickster requested we make, a place to discuss whether or not TWD are under the same “comics don’t exist” rule as GOT threads?

If so, my vote is a strong no based on past precedent. To my knowledge, the “comics don’t exist” rule has never been in effect in TWD threads. Maybe in the first season, but not since then.

Can someone start a Walking Dead episode thread with a “comics discussion allowed” disclaimer?

Let’s start with this season’s threads. To find the examples, on each page I did a text search for “comic” and then manually scanned the full page for spoiler boxes. It’s possible that there even more comic references than the examples I found with my quick search and scan technique.

The Walking Dead; 5.01 “No Santuary” (open spoilers)
Comics are discussed. It’s mentioned that the comics are as much about rebuilding as they are about fighting zombies. Someone says they want the spin-off to leave the comics behind. Not one single complaint or even mention that comics are off-topic for the thread.

The Walking Dead; 5.02 “Strangers” (open spoilers)
The comics come up many times. Nobody ever changes clothes because that’s how comic books work. Someone says they like Father Gabriel better in the show than the comics, and they’re excited to see what elements of the comics are used for him. A spoiler box explains a comic plotline about the preacher. Another spoiler box explains that in the comics, the zombie lady with glasses that freaks the preacher out was his wife. Not one single complaint or even mention that comics are off-topic for the thread.

The Walking Dead; 5.03 “Four Walls and a Roof” (open spoilers)
The comics come up. Someone mentions that Abraham and Eugene don’t feel like real people; they have a distinct comic book quality to them. Someone else comments that while reading the entire comics run, it occurred to them that we’re all member of the walking dead. A reply spoiler boxes that Rick says exactly that early on in the comics. Not one single complaint or even mention that comics are off-topic for the thread.

The Walking Dead 5.04 “The Slab” (open spoilers)
No mention of the comics. I’m frankly surprised that there was any thread this season where the comics didn’t come up.

The Walking Dead; 5.05 “Self Help” (open spoilers)
Someone asks if Eugene was in the comics, and if so was he more believable? It’s answered that yes, and comic Eugene is roughly the same as tv show Eugene, but his lie was more believable in the comics. It’s also mentioned that the guy who plays Abraham explained the backstory to the grocery store massacre on the Talking Dead. Special note: On the Talking Dead, he explicitly explained that he was describing the backstory from the comics. It’s here when people make up a new rule about “comics don’t exist” and it snowballs from there.

I stand by what I said in the thread:

I think I’ve shown here that the “comics don’t exist” has not been a rule so far this season. I may do a similar breakdown for the other seasons depending on how motivated I get.

Though a great Zombie lover, I gave up on the series after a couple of seasons when the plot started revolving around people in the group squabbling with each other, or groups of Humans fighting each other .

The Zombies themselves have become almost a background feature, being less dangerous then feral dogs .

I also don’t like the way they find whatever they need , whether its food , petrol or ammunition , when in fact most shops would have been cleaned out in the first couple of days at the very beginning .

They also never seemed to take even basic precautions for their own security , when they actually do post a sentry , the sentry seems to spend more time looking at, and chatting to other characters then actually keeping a lookout .

I also take issue with the 'Everlasting 'Crossbow bolts that never get blunt, never get broken and never become immovably stuck in the Zombies skull .

And the last item on my rant is their immunity to getting Zombies bodily fluids on them without catching the Z virus .

Surely if the disease is spread through blood then any open cuts , or accidental ingestion would infect them as surely as being bitten .

Phew ! I feel better for that !

I’ll get my coat !

I’m whatever about boxed spoilers – I think they’ve gone far enough from the comics that any spoilers about some new-showing character won’t be accurate anyways.

But what about the “Talking Dead” show? I used to watch it, but now have so much stuff on Sundays that there’s no time. But really (?!) that they’ve been explaining stuff (like what was up with Abraham and his wife in the flashbacks) like it was canon, is the nadir of storytelling, at least for on-screen media. I don’t know if it was Hitchcock, or every Filmmaking 101 Professor who said “If it isn’t on the screen, it isn’t part of the story”. Still, I think that past spoilers - and those on the talking dead - are fair game. I hope the writers know how lame it is to explain important plot points on the aftershow.

I think your hope may be over-ruled by AMC’s ability to book advertisements for an additional hour due to the fact that people tune in to the Talking Dead to get clues.

Is this the thread I asked y’all to start to discuss the spoiler issue? If so, I’ll be happy to merge it into the similar thread with a poll.

If it’s not going to be merged, could the OP explain a little better what the topic of the thread is, so we can rewrite the thread title for greater clarity?

Thanks,

twicks

I am sure that money will win out.

It was intended to provide for the discuss of the Walking Dead, with spoilers from the comic as well as the TV show. Discussion of the spoiler issue is welcome.

For simplicity’s sake, no, please use the other thread for that.

Thanks,
