Things that go bump in the MMP

Howdy all. My body rewarded me for sweeping and cleaning the carpet and both of the bathrooms yesterday by giving me a ‘sleep as long as you like’ day, so I arose at 9:41am on the alarm clock. No soccer coaching today, so outside of eating and maybe doing a little work outside, it should be a swampy-level day of slothage.

Sari, if they took volunteers, I’d work a doggie-day care.

talkie, glad the tooth-yanking went OK. When I was a kid, it was wiggle them until they got loose, then Mom reached in and yanked them out… :open_mouth: And yeah, doesn;t matter how close you were, he’s still Dad and you are losing him.

FCM, I wonder sometimes if FCD secretly reads this board…because the imaging timing is rather suspicious… But glad he’s getting it done.

Sunny, safe (and easy) trip and hope the dogs adjust.

Taters, ain’t worklife wonderful? Still, you got a scenic trip out of it.

Dicey, glad they could move your room, that strikes me a being mildly dangerous…

Nellie, happy things are going well. May the itch stay lost.

As for hotel stories, only one I had to get a new room for was when I found the bathtub already home to several cockroaches…and this was on the Strip in Vegas! Can now afford something better than Motel 6 and it’s ilk, so haven’t had any issues.

OK, it’s 11am now and I haven’t had any nourishment yet, so on to the kitchen to forage for lunch. All y’all take care.

So it was extra hot today, and stuff in the bags kept sticking, so my wrist hurts. And we were short handed.

Can you make a Clue by Four in FCD’s shop?

Morning, all. Happy Hump Day!

Did I mention that I have Ariana Grande’s cousin in one of my classes? There’s a new link for any of you playing “6 Degrees.”

Cool weather finally, although it won’t last. Sunday is supposed to be back in the 90s. The cats will be sad - they really like the colder weather, which is weird for a desert creature.

Onward, through the fog!

My
Aunt Mary went to different schools together with Bruce Springsteen.

I once waited on Frank Zappa’s aunt when she came into the bank where I irked.
Sad to say, out of the 8-9 of us who irked there, I was the only one who knew who Frank Zappa was.
I could have graduated with Toni Braxton, if I were younger.

My hood isn’t in yet. As far as the guy at the shop can tell, it’s in one of the 40 containers or so sitting in Martinsburg. Waiting to be unloaded.
He’s supposed to have it by October 6.
Anybody who says they can’t find irk needs to come up here. Everybody is hiring. Even the fast-food places are offering sign on bonuses, and some are paying by the day.

I have no idea what the daycare pays, but I think it’s probably not too horrible. Everybody who irks there seems very happy, but like MetalMouse, I would probably volunteer to irk there too. If I had the time and the energy, both of which are in short supply.

So on with the phone calls…

Ugh, this client with the new restaurant is being needy. In the “Oh, wait, just one more thing” kind of way. I suppose more work is good, but I have other things to get done at irk for other clients.

Today it was “Hey can you drive me to the store to get another TV and then mount it” In the meantime, the guys putting in the POS system moved to working directly under where the TV goes, so I’ve got to go back again tomorrow.

And “hey there are some more shelves I need, and can you install these clips to hold the cutting boards in place” while the kitchen is full of cooks learning the new menu.

Twyla Tharp was one of my father’s students in high school.

Methinks I should start a new “6 Degrees” thread.

Good news: I’m connected in VPN.
Bad news: A couple of cow-orkers aren’t. I was able earlier to go to the server’s URL, but now it’s now found.
More bad news: Big Commercial Credit Company is having issues, and I can’t get to where I need to go.

This is not turning out to be a productive day.

VanGo that sounds very stressful. I hope you managed to dodge anyone trying to use the cutting boards while you were installing.

I’m off in a bit to take their dogs for their “interview”, to give it its official title.

Nothing suspicious - I told him again that he needs to make the appointment. He finally realized I’m right!

My cousin met Bobby Vinton. I met Cliff Robertson. My sister, when she was still tending bar, met Maya Angelou and Stephan Pastis and some others I can’t recall. The show Homicide was partly filmed across the street from the bar, and actors would occasionally wander in.

Supper will be shrimp and roasted cauliflower and Amish 'maters. That’s about all I’m going to manage today.

Meanwhile, still waiting on CVS. I’m wondering if they don’t have the drug in question in stock.

Partway through some mining in the Room of Doom (officially the second bedroom of our apartment, we use it for storage) to allow installation of freestanding shelves the Jungle swears we’ll have today. Considering that other parts of the apartment look like RoD barfed, they’d better come through, ideally before DH gets home to be aggravated by traffic problems created by displaced stuff (some weeding-out is occurring, but DH is a packrat, so there are limits to what I can evict).

Howdy Y’all! Stuff got done, we went to the hog trough Golden Corral, and, of course, slot and nappage happened. Have I mentioned lately how much I like bein’ a retired drain on society?

Glad FCD figured he needed to see the doc Moooooooom.

Losing someone slowly to dementia of any kind is a hard row to hoe wordy. I hope that your visit(s) give you some sense of peace.

If you want to play 6 degrees silenus, Brenda Webb, aka Crystal Gayle babysat for me as a child and Janie Fricke (80s country singer) used to sit in with our band on occasion when I lived in Indiana. Once I came to Tennessee, part of my running crowd included John Carter Cash, Ira Dean and Selena Reed (Jerry’s daughter). We used to hang out at Johnny and June’s lake house and I even got to play Mother Maybelle’s autoharp.

Irked and am tah-red. Plans for the evening include much sloth.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Giving up on the shelves at this point. Every (expletive) time I get one piece connected, something else unhooks itself, and I wasn’t feeling all that well today to begin with. There are sufficient traffic lanes that DH can reach where he needs to. More work on this tomorrow.

Me too, and … me too!

The restaurant is closed inside (for dine-in) at least thru the end of the week - drive-thru only for now.

Fine by me. I didn’t much feel like people-ing today.

Trained a new girl on how to run the headset/drive-thru, and I gotta say, it feels good to feel knowledgeable and competent. At least for a few minutes!

I still have good and bad days, or even hours. But I feel pretty good about myself tonight, which is a nice change from the cowering, sniveling mess I sometimes become.

shoe Good on you for doing the training and feeling better about yourself. You’re good people.

I is tahrd too. Way too many ladders this week. And it’s only wednesday.

My initial impulse was to reply with, “You don’t know that!” but I am trying to not be so negative about myself, so I will just say … thanks.

Oh, and on the “food” front tonight, I have a chicken slider and a taco waiting for me. The taco is actually my own food (deli turkey, cheese, flour tortilla) that I brought from home and tucked into a corner of one of the walk-ins. Makes a nice, quick lunch … plus, when it’s dead quiet like it was tonight, I can borrow the little griddle flat-top and toast the whole thing.

The slider, I bought outright. We get 50% off, which makes the food juuuust barely affordable!

Plus, brie and crackers, with a bit of honey. Just because.

Evening all. Slothage has been attained, outside of solving puzzles and watching soccer on the TV, not much else to report. Another day in the 80’s with no rain, may have to put the sprinkler out for the first time this summer (guaranteed to cause rain within 48 hours).

Seanette, I have tried to put extra shelving together too (more of a box-like thing like this: Robot or human?
and ended up throwing it away as I never could get it to stay together. Better luck with your stuff.

As for famous people, I went to school and was part of the speech team with Jim Jarmusch (now a movie director) and…that’s about it. Can’t really call him a friend, he was fairly aloof, but I did know him.

So dinner has been assimilated, a nice warm bath is planned for pre-sleepage, and that should do in this day. Probably should put on some clothes and check the mailbox, but not a critical matter (no bills due until October).

Everyobdy have a good night.

I’m so old you guys probably wouldn’t recognize any names I have to share, but I used to sort rocks for the Doctors Mr and Mrs Leaky when I was in junior high school. I had breakfast with Isaac Asimov when I was in my late 20’s. When I won the Young Columbus contest Charles Heston shook my hand while my pic was taken. I met Deucy at work once, but that’s not a bragging point IMO.

Here’s a name you all will probably recognize. Lyndon Johnson used to be an elevator operator in San Bernardino CA. When he was campaigning, he came back to San Bernardino and mom took me to see him. This was a very long time ago, so the crowd was able to rush the stage taking pre-school me with them. A secret service man saw that I was getting crushed, plucked me out of the crowd and somehow found my panicked mother.

Oh gosh, digging through my memory, here’s another one you might know. Ex-president Nixon lived in San Onofre, CA after he was impeached. He was also a golfer. Once a week, on Tuesday’s he would golf at his club. When he was there, nobody was able to enter or leave and they would lock the doors on the 19th hole. Everyone lucky enough to be inside when the secret police showed up would be forced to stay and drink for free for a couple of hours. I learned a lot about fancy drinks while watching that sad, lonely man out there swinging a golf club all by himself.

Before the world ended, I had lunch with Dean Koontz a couple of times when he was in Phoenix. He’s a lovely man who is as in love with his dogs as I am with our cats.

Just when I think I’ve run out…who was the other guy in the Oklahoma Bombing? Nichols I think. I was doing my on-boarding at the VA hospital the day the bombing happened. When Nichols figured out the FBI was coming after him, he called my line to cancel his appointment at the pain clinic.

Sorry, brain isn’t working well, yesterday was hard on my body and I got very little sleep. My back is still killing me, but my arm isn’t hurting so badly. I’m hoping for sleep tonight.

Once a month we have to fill the bathtub in the guest bath because the drain pipe is too long and droops so needs lots of money to be fixed or we can just flush the pipe out with a full tub of water once a month. Today was the day. George thought the running water was so interesting that he jumped in to explore. George thinks that swimming is great, but he doesn’t wipe his feet or towel off after jumping out and tracked water all over the place because he felt so good he wanted to run around. The cat wasn’t distressed, the hoomans were.

What they never mention is that the elevator was in a cathouse on E Street.
