ZERO little candy mooches . May have to send excess candy with DH for his co-irkers to help dispose of it.
A certain orange tabby jerk thinks my bulletin board is a DANDY scratching post, and he has trashed it. I’ll get DH to flip it over the weekend (only about half the cork surface is accessible, the way it’s mounted), but I need to figure out keeping his claws out of it.
Note: I have the bulletin board mounted to the side of my desk with the cork surface facing the workspace. I set it up that way so it sticks up high enough it SHOULD have blocked a certain orange tabby jerk from walking onto the top of the bird cage, which pretty much has to be next to said desk (it didn’t work, he gets onto the bird cage just fine, but Misty doesn’t seem bothered. I don’t think she understands the concept of predators).
Don’t get me wrong, I still love Buddy, but he does have a couple of really obnoxious habits. Hadn’t realized before just how relatively easy Allie and her predecessor have been to live with compared to the more conventional cat.
Your jerkface probably likes how the cork feels on his feets, and a hanging cork surface would allow him to stretch and work out. Hubs figured out a way to put these on the second level of their scratching tree so GG can get a really good stretch. Maybe you could hang one up for your jerkface? Just get used to sweeping bits of cardboard up every day.
We do have something like that, which sits on the floor (Buddy thinks the carpet is also great for claw sharpening, so he doesn’t insist that scratching surfaces be vertical). He ignores it, but Allie’s quite fond of it (she’s always been good about sticking to approved scratching surfaces).
I do have some heavy fabric on hand with plastic backing. Wonder if I should cover the board with that?
No candy-beggars here, despite me forgetting to draw the blinds. Then again, it was raining, plus any kid who lives around here knows already we don’t do that stuff - no decorations in the yard or anything.
But there’s something wrong with Roxanna. She was dressed in her Frozen gown, all adorable and stuff, but after an hour, she was bored with T-or-T!! What’s up with that??? A lousy hour?!?!? My granddaughter is some sort of mutant. Then again, I shouldn’t be surprised - she still has a bucket full of Easter treats, including Dove chocolates, that she hasn’t touched. Kids these days - what’s wrong?? We’d eat half of our Halloween candy that very night, and the rest within 2 or 3 days, despite efforts to spread out the treats, because, well, that’s impossible!!
FCD has to take his bro today to see the lawyer so she can ascertain that he does, in fact, want FCD to have his POA. She did the same with his parents yesterday. I’m kinda wondering what the procedure is when someone isn’t entirely with-it, like FIL. He can’t give informed consent when he’s all spaced out, but obviously he needs someone to handle his affairs. And I can understand when you’re talking about a grand estate, but I doubt when you consider everything, the in-laws are worth even half a million. Anyway, that’s on his agenda.
I’ve got Tobias today, and this afternoon, Daughter is taking her grandma for a haircut, so I don’t know how long I’ll wrangle both kids. Plus last night, MIL told FCD that BIL would like me to help him do some on-line job applications. So I have that to look forward to, sometime. Don’t think it’ll happen today.
And so it begins… Happy November and Happy Tuesday!! Only one more stoopit week of campaign commercials on TV…
It’s currently 43 degrees and cloudy with a small chance for showers later today, but cloudy skies most of the day. It appears rain returns tomorrow.
Bought a new toilet seat and a new bird feeding station, but this one sits just a little above ground. It’s a tray with a roof. We loaded it with peanuts and a couple of little piles of seed mix. The squirrels had that thing pretty much emptied by the time it got dark. The juncoes came too, but I saw nary a crow or stellars jay. Maybe today the crows will show. We’re going to try this for a while, but if it doesn’t work the way I want it to, we’ll get some more poles and a flange to mount the tray to the pole. It could be we pretty much missed the window the crows come and check things out for food too, so we’ll see if they visit today.
I’m back to work today. Bah. Tomorrow is my work from the office today, so I’ll have to make the commute down south.
Hope all goes well with the POA thing, FCM. There is not an ounce of toddler left in Roxy. She’s beautiful and Toby is just adorable.
The kids took the grandkids to the “rich” neighborhood for ToTing. I don’t know what the haul looked like, but it looked like they had fun in the pics.
I’m soo ready for this election to be over. I loathe the commercials and I’m sick of them.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN 'Tis 51 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 78 and N.O.S. for the day. Today is laundry day. Oh the excitatement! We shall do an early sup at Sonny’s, as baby back ribs are on special, so I got that to look forward to. YUM! Other than that, 'twill be the ususal general overall uselessness.
Nellie glad the surgery went well. Hope the pain is less today. Are you enjoyin’ the new pockets doggio said you got?
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.
Happy Tuesday Y’all! Also Happy All Saints Day to anyone who may observe!
ETA: Happy Cheap Chawklit Day to any who may indulge!
Afternoon, mumpers! It is dreary here today, although I am quite sure weather app doesn’t understand that concept. It’s 13c/55f with no change expected during the day, and cloudy. Weather app says “Just remember, every lining has a fucking cloud” which is pretty appropriate for today as we have a 24hr warning for torrential rain. We did get a proper toadsoaker last night but today’s been heavy showers on and off.
Our house has the odd sky raisin here and there because we have cats, and therefore bowls of catfood. All through summer we had a couple of them lurking around the bowls upstairs and usually one or two in the kitchen. Now the weather’s cooled off and the flies have gone - they may have been scoffed by the cats, or just disappeared into the woodwork, or moved on now that the tasty aroma of old cat food is no longer floating on the breeze.
Nellie I am happy to hear surgery went well, I hope recovery goes well too, and you’re enjoying those pockets!
Moooom sounds like everyone’s behaving themselves with Drs, lawyers and the like. Long may it continue.
Taters hope you’re feeling better now.
VanGo congrats on the job!
We didn’t do anything for hallowe’en, and didn’t expect any kids calling either. To be honest, I was just glad when the day was over. Those of you who know me on the Book of Faces will know that I went to the funeral of my mum’s dear friend, Margo. It was always going to be an emotional day but I was not prepared for just how much it upset me. It’s the first time I’ve been back over that way since handing over the keys to mum’s flat, the first time I’ve been to the crematorium since picking up her ashes, and I was also unprepared to see a pic of mum and Margo in the order of service booklet and on the video montage. The wake was held in a local place that was one of mum’s favourite Sunday lunch places, I couldn’t face going in there. To be honest, if Margo’s service had been held in the same chapel as mum’s, I probably wouldn’t even have been able to get out of the car. Fortunately the crematorium has two chapels, and they were in the other one. The service was lovely, the flowers were beautiful, and it was good to see Glenda again. I told her I’d go over and visit one day when we can catch up somewhere that doesn’t hold so many bittersweet memories for us both.
Morning all. Up at a reasonable hour today and feel pretty good, so might actually accomplish some things. Need to do a little shopping and make the Great Comforter Switch, from the lightweight one I use for 7-8 months to the heavier winter one, and take the used one to the dry cleaners. Add in gym time and soccer watching and that should take care of most of the day. 56F heading for 73F and drying out.
Had about 25 trick or treaters last night, pretty much petered out about 7:30, so of course I have way to much candy left over. Might think about sending it to “Soldier’s Angels Treats for Troops” if the postage isn’t to high. Has good ratings, so might just go ahead and do it.
nellie, glad the surgery went well, as for the pain, shoe could probably suggest something…
((Boo fae)), obviously an emotional time, hope you can get with your friend some other time.
FCM, an hour usefully spent can garner quite a few treats, I imagine she’ll make them disappear soon enough.
suzie, nice added cameo to your visit with Mom.
OK, need to dress for outdoors and be about things. All y’all take care.
When we sold our house we paid off our credit cards 'cause we were tired of keeping track of the auto transfers and the inevitable screw ups that we would have to sort out.
we paid off the truck too.
Wifey didn’t buy any candy when she was in The Dalles last Friday because it hurt so bad to walk so yesterday afternoon, as I was getting ready to walk to the P.O. and the hardware store, she told me to stop at the little store and buy some candy in case anybody came by, even with our lights off. We didn’t have anybody come by last year so thought we were pretty safe. We were wrong.
They had little bags of M&Ms for $1.65 but there were tootsie roll pops for a quarter each, so I got some of them. Good thing too. Some of those kids didn’t get the memo and knocked on our door even with the lights off. Also, it was raining.
(I did buy some M&Ms, but they’re for me/us.)
In our previous house I would occasionally hear someone walking around upstairs, when no one was there, but it was 125+ years old and made strange noises all the time.
The contractors gremlins are here again finishing up installing our mini-splits. We will never again have to futz around with portable A/C units. Yay!
Glad things went well Nellie. Just don’t stuff your pockets with treats, now.
We filled out our ballots last night and I will go drop them off sometime today. We don’t even have a polling place down here in our end of the county.
Unfortunately, the attack ads will continue for another week anyway.
So one of the other shifts was stuffing the outbound stuff in bags with inbound labels, which meant it showed up when we we dumping. And naturally we were the ones getting screamed at. Also there was screaming to get all the work done…so we could stand around for an hour waiting for the Air to arrive(I do get getting it done quick, since we have more breakdowns than a season of Telenovas.).
I went to the doctor . I have chronic shoulder impingement that flares up and I’m in the midst of a flare up. He gave me a cortisone shot with lidocaine. My shoulder feels really good now! Hopefully the cortisone will calm down this nonsense. I stopped at the grocery store at 10:30 and there was NO CHEEP CHAWLIKT! I asked the manager and he said they sold out Sunday. I don’t believe him. Oh well, I don’t need any chocolate. I also got my flu shot. He did recommend the COVID booster since I have mild COPD and the cardiac ablation thing.
I applied to Barnes & Noble for a seasonal job. They probably won’t even interview me since I want $15/hour.
Dang, I leave you guys alone for two weeks, and nellie’s having surgery. I’m glad things went well, nellie! I hope your new pockets are treating you very, very well.
I attended my half sister’s wedding in Iowa weekend before last, and last weekend was in delightful mid-Missouri attending a swim meet with my daughter. Both events went well. The former apparently involved shrooms and edibles (I just had a few glasses of wine and wandered off to bed) and the latter did not involve shrooms, edibles or wine, but did include quite a lot of coffee and sweets. Plus, I dragged overygirl to a variety of state parks during our journey, which made her hungry, so we ate our way through town.
Anyway, overlygirl brought home four first places. I brought home cooties, but it was worth it. As a neat side effect, I got out of this morning’s teeeth cleaning. Apparently they don’t care if you’re sick or not because they wear masks, but they DO care whether or not you can keep your mouth open. I would’ve thought both would be equally important but I guess that’s why I’m not a dentist.
I’m bummed it’s November now - Halloween is my absolutely favorite holiday of the year. Nothing quite as low pressure as making sure you’ve got an assload of candy on hand.
Hi, everyone! I’m feeling better today and will go home this afternoon. I’ve been cutting the 5 mg. oxy in half, as I really hate the side effects. It boggles my mind that people want to get this stuff to get high. I’m well enough to take the train home this afternoon. I was an idiot to think I could do this the day of surgery.
We got trick-or-treaters last night, but my son and his wife thought I wouldn’t want the interruptions, so they didn’t buy candy. After the first few kids, my son put up a polite sign. I was disappointed but touched by their thoughtfulness. As I type this, I have a dog under my chair and another at my side, so plenty of dog therapy today.
My daughter said they went to a bar party for Hallowee last weekend. She dressed as a woodland nymph and looked fabulous. I was amazed she made her costume from stuff at Goodwill and the dollar store. Her husband was a Viking, but he didn’t war the horned helmet. That Jan. 6th idiot ruined that image.
doggio, thanks so much for the pockets! Did you intend to leave that $100 bill in one of them?
FCM, my BIL was about as out of it as your FIL seems to be when my sister got the POA. They went to an eldercare attorney, who was familiar with this sort of thing, so maybe he went easier on them, but she got the POA with no problems. I don’t know what happens if someone is denied the POA.Maybe a competency hearing?
susan, what a wonderful surprise for your author friend!
MetalMouse, I can’t use the shoe cure because THC and I don’t get along, but I’d sure try it if I could!
Have to go . Humans are talking to me and dogs nudging me.
It’s raining pretty hard here (I just now noticed the sound). The weather guessers think the rest of this week shouldn’t be rainy, but next week looks to be.
I went to Trader Joe’s to get a salad and stuff, as usual when I’m down in Burien. After taking the case of wine out to the car, I returned the cart. They have antiseptic wipes by the carts, so I grabbed one and wiped down the handle. (Which I also did when I got the cart when I arrived.) A woman said, ‘I’ll take that! And I just saw you clean it!’ I wonder if she cleaned it when she returned it?
I got rather disapproving looks from both cats when I opened the patio door, and Allie wasn’t even in line of sight to it. They both seem to prefer to not hear the rain coming down.
Howdy Y’all! We laundered, slothed, and had an early sup at Sonny’s. Have I mentioned lately how much I like bein’ a retired drain on society? Bein’ a retired grumpy old man is da bomb!
{{{BooFae}}} I am sure it was a lovely, if bittersweet, memorial. I think it’s a good idea to catch up with you friend in a less somber locale.
Nellie glad you’re takin’ the choochoo home this afternoon. May the recovery/healin’ continue to go as well as it already has.
FlyBoy you otter hurry home to see that. On the otter hand, be careful on your commute. Otterwise you might get into an accident. Then, again it may be an otter you can’t refuse, so you might otter get there soon.
