Tiger Woods injured

I’m hearing she is leaving/divorcing him now? Have you guys heard this?

That’s the story. Really, that’s about the only thing she can do now. You could maybe sorta get over one affair, but he seems to have banged anything that got within the same ZIP code. Seems a pretty clear indication that he has no desire to be married in the normal sense.

I guess we’ll all know soon.

if these reports are true, there is no legitimate no reason why Tiger needs to take an indefinite hiatus from tournament golf. He is not taking time to repairing his marriage.

Maybe one legitimate reason, he is a coward and does not want to face the public.

Seriously? That makes him a coward?

I realized the funny thing about all this is that golf is now no different than other pro sports. They can longer claim to be high brow when their #1 star was screwing anyone with a vagina.

Give it a week.

The best thing about Woods is when I imagine all those racists from Augusta national spinning in their graves every time he steps on the course and spinning even faster when he wins.

Hell - wasn’t just Augusta. Back into the 60s, being white was an express requirement of the PGA!

Do you have a cite? (Not being snarky - I’d really like to have this confirmed).

In the early 50s the PGA tour had a whites only rule. It’s strange but the first black guy to play a PGA tour event was boxer Joe Louis. He was really into golf after he retired as a golfer.

Charlie Sifford was the first black member of the PGA tour, he joined in 1961.

If you think that a black man playing on their golf course would freak them out, what would they do if they knew he had been “getting at” all them white wimmen?!?

Thanks - I never knew that. Your Wiki link says he played in the 1952 San Diego Open.

Here’s a wiki reference from a quick google. I’m sure you could readily find more - and more definitive - cites.

I had read it a few times before in different books about golf. (I am fortunate that my local library has a HUGE collection of golf books and videos, donated by some resident.) And it was probably referenced in a show the Golf Channel had about a year ago about blacks in pro golf.

While just about every sport practiced segregation/discrimination at one time, pro golf may have been unique in having it written down in its rules. Hard to believe how things have changed in such a relatively short time.

James “Pat” Ball is listed by afrogolf.com as the first black to play in a PGATour sanctioned event. The 1934 St Paul Open.

Ted Rhodes came in 51st at the 1948 US Open. FTR, that is a USGA event but not controlled by the PGA/PGATTour

It was not until the late 80s that the PGA tour banned tourneys from clubs that were 100% white and excluded Jews. They put in the ban because of an issue brought up by Tom Watson who has a Jewish wife. Right after that Augusta National got their first black member - which they claim had nothing to do with the PGA policy change. (and yes I know the Masters is not a PGA event)

Thanks.

I would like to see your documentation of the issue regarding Jewish membership of clubs hosting tournaments. My recollection is that the PGA instituted a restriction on tournaments at clubs that did not accept minority members, which led to the dropping of Cypress Point from the rotation at the AT&T (in favor of Poppy Hills, owned by the NCGA). I have never heard that this had anything to do with membership of Jews in such clubs.

Here is the story about Tom Watson and the club that did not admit a Jew - it was the club where he was a member so he quit the club but they didn’t have a PGA tourney at the time.

It was right around the same time the PGA tourney was held at a club in Alabama that did not allow black members. That’s why I combined these 2 events but they were not related.

I remember when they moved the Western from Butler because it wouldn’t (and still doesn’t) admit women. Probably around late-80s.
