Tiger Woods injured

Just out of curiosity, why would you be happy to have his rep tarnished? I understanding not being a fan, he’s not an outgoing guy and doesn’t do much to endear himself to golf watchers (other than play the best golf we’ll ever see), but your post implies some sort of hatred and that, I don’t get.

Tiger has retained “Orlando’s own Johnnie Cochran” as an attorney.

Something tells me there is something much more than a simple traffic incident.

Agreed on all counts.

The average Joe, including me wonders what he’s hiding.

Tiger is scheduled to hold a press conference on Tuesday to talk about the Chevron World Challenge tournament.

Either this will be sorted out before then, or the press conference will be canceled.

Saw this on another board, and the people here are a lot smarter than the trolls over there.

Assume Elin Woods lied to Police early Friday morning about what happened.

Lieing to the police is against the law, obstruction.

Also assume Elin is not a US Citizen, which I think is a safe assumption.

Can Elin be deported back to Sweden?

Don’t you get citizenship if you are married to an American citizen?

I don’t think anybody’s mentioned the possibility that he uses a sleep aid that can cause this kind of behavior. For all we know, he’s getting ready to sue the makers of Ambien.

I have my mother’s origninal green card from when she immigrated to US from Canada 63 years ago (marrying my father, a US citizen) . She never became a US citizen.

Sorry, let me rephrase that: Don’t you get something equivalent to citizenship?

Legal residency, but I’m pretty sure that’s it.

Erstwhile Tiger has released a statement taking the blame for the wreck, naming Elin as a hero for “saving” him from certain death, and asking for privacy.

At this point it’s pretty obvious what happened - I would have made a statement similar to Tige’s but I would have added, “Like any married couple, we have our difficulties and we are trying to work them out, and we ask for your understanding and privacy about this matter. I will not comment further on this incident.”

Right now everybody wants to take a chunk out of Android Tiger and his perfect wife/life, so by making that statement he acknowledges that there’s an issue, and the entire “what really happened” situation is resolved. Shit, he should have learned after the Kobe fiasco that all the details are going to come to light in time.

As one commentator on SI.com noted, people dislike a philanderer, but they abhor a liar. A B-grade scandal like this (just an affair? With a hot woman? Big deal.) will blow over but sticking to this ridiculous story will make him the butt of jokes and affect his marketability, no doubt.

Don’t think I “hate” Tiger (or feel all that strongly one way or the other about any athlete/celebrity.) But I’ve long sort of thought him a bit of a jerk. Very full of himself. Of course, that is likely understandable given his immense talent/success. But I am bored with Tiger always being the main story. So I wouldn’t mind anything that would take him down a peg or two. But I’m sure his adoring fans will be quite forgiving, so long as he keeps winning.

No question, tho - the less he says, the better off he is.

IANAG but those double weighted kings hurt!

Because I’m Black and I’m a lawyer I gotta be Johnnie Cochran?![/Dr. Hibbert]

Realizes Tiger’s lawyer isn’t black. Goes with joke anyway.

Tiger was leaving at 2;30 in the morning not coming home. I gots top know why.

Here is Tiger’s statement:

Is it just me, or do some things stick out here:

  1. He says how it was solely his fault, he’s a human being, he’s embarrassed, he makes mistakes, etc. That’s beating yourself up pretty bad for a single car accident at low speeds.

  2. So a car accident is a “private matter”? No it isn’t.

  3. He said “She was the first person to help me. Any other assertion is absolutely false.” Am I the only one who sees what he did here? Of course she was the first person to help him, nobody denies that, but he follows it up with a strong statement to make the reader think that he is talking about any allegations of domestic violence, which he isn’t.

I gots to know where he found a woman hotter than his wife.

There’s a quote to the effect of, “Behind every drop-dead gorgeous woman is a man sick of putting up with her shit.” I’m not saying that his wife is a bitch or anything - although, allegedly she may be willing to commit spousal abuse  - but what I am saying is that looks aren’t everything. If a guy is unsatisfied with a relationship for some other reason, or if he just sucks at being monogamous, he might find a way to stray.

Men don’t cheat because they see someone hoter, just someone Different.

Didn’t he just come back from Asia/Australia. I mean literally a day or so before the accidnt. He may have been suffering from sopne sort of jet lag and that was why he was up at that time. Not saying it is likley, but it seems like it could be the case.

BTW, I don’t think Tiger owes me or anyone other than the Orlando PD an explanation.

One of the things that bothers me about this case is the idea that Woods doesn’t owe an explanation to anyone (not to go after you, Gangster Octopus). He actually does.

Woods makes a significant amount of money from his endorsement deals - which are entirely contingent on his being an upstanding role model, responsible citizen, etc. There’s a reason why he has deals with Gilette, GM, Nike, and others, as compared to, say, John Daly. He owes those endorsers, and the people who buy the products that he endorses, a truthful explanation of what took place.

Now if he was a John Daly type - in the respect that as far as I know, he doesn’t endorse any products or has much of a public persona - I’d agree. I don’t think it has to be all details of what took place, but the story as presented doesn’t pass the smell test, and I certainly think less of him for not being honest about it.
