Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 62 Ammurkin out and mostly cloudy with a predicted high of 86 and cloudy with rain movin’ in overnight. Cooler temps will prevail after today. We shall procure provisions this mornin’ and be our usual RDOS sloths this afternoon. Sup will be over to the church house this evenin’.
doggio I have never seen a war break out at a cocktail party, but its come close to that a time or two.
GenJ I have come to an understandin’ with rutabagas and will eat ‘em and even sometimes make ‘em. However I still draw the line at fart blossoms and sugar in cornbread.
Nettie good on you for givin’ it a shot. If you find you really detest it, you can change your mind.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, alas and bother, I suppose I must purtify and don acceptable attire for bein’ amongst the great unwashed.
Happy Hump Dsy Y’all!
My niece posted that her older son’s (7-y/o) soccer team won their championship - lots of pics on FB. She used to play soccer (and field hockey) when she was in high school and her husband is a baseball jock - guess Grayson got both of their sports genes.
A variation on that - when I was a teen, I couldn’t understand why my mother didn’t keep up with the current musical acts and songs. And here I am, having little idea of who’s hot and what they sing. Then again, if I do listen to the radio (do kids do that today??) it’s the local classical station. FCD plays 60s and 70s stations on Sirius, so that’s my walk down memory lane.
Mollie, while I was raking yesterday, I got this as an earworm, but with Mollie in place of Money. I feel like I need to blame you somehow… ![]()
Today starts around 60 Ferrets, going to low 80s, but rain moving in this afternoon. Rain tomorrow, too, then temps dropping and a few sub-freezing nights to follow. Dammit. So the plants I put outside will remain inside till I’m sure all freezes are past.
I’ll get some more raking done this morning - gradually, the garden beds are looking less awful. I need to get to CVS, plus FCD is out of 'nanners, so I’ll swing by Food Lion since it’s right across the street. Not sure what else is on the agenda - we’ll see.
We may have solved the Otis in-and-out annoyance with this. Way back in the days when we had Pixel, we built something similar and it worked well. Here’s hoping this will, too. It’s supposed to arrive on Saturday.
That’s pretty much the excitement hereabouts.
Happy Wednesday!
Morning all, and maybe my last full message for most of the day. Electricians are due back early along with the city to shut down my power for most of the day while they replace and rewire my circuit board. So will feel like my ancestors for about 6-8 hours… At least I will have my cellphone and car so I won’t be totally out of touch with things, but still different…
Did wonder (finally) about the refrigerator, it seems the frozen stuff will be good for around 24-36 hours if I don’t open the door, but the refrigerator items will need to go into the small coolers with ice after a couple of hours. Fortunately a lot of what I have in there is used to normal temps (Pepsi, pudding/applesauce cups), so it shouldn’t be a huge move.
Another rainy evening and nighttime is in store, so hopefully will be powered back up by then or will have to find a hotel room. Adventure!

nellie, hope the test scoring isn’t as bad as it seems and maybe you’ll find something of interest in doing it. If not, you can always resign later. And hope the back is feeling somewhat better.
Apparently the contractor that built this house (and a number of others on this street) 30 years ago didn’t use the best materials for it, so they are wearing out. I’ve seen plumbing trucks on a regular basis along the street in the past few years.
Hippie, you should be getting compliments, that was great work.
FCM, hooray for the U8 winners! We don’t start ‘championships’ here until the kids reach U10, but even the youngest know if they are winning or losing. Good wishes for the Otis-sized door working.
And that’s all for now. Need to finish up some things and prepare for the great power shutdown.
Well, winter came back last night. Looks like a couple of inches on the ground this morning. At least the roads were warm enough to keep things from being a nightmare. Looks to be decent until Monday, when we drop back into the deep freeze.
No, I didn’t wash the car yesterday, so sue me already.
@GenerationJones, don’t let the mutt scare you. Lenny’s an easygoing guy as long as you have snacks for him, and he’s not a picky eater.
I claim dibs on white chocolate, will share milk chocolate, and everyone else can argue over the dark. ![]()
Today’s high in Elkhart will be 60 ferrets, just one degree higher than it is now. Rain is falling.
Last night’s bad weather, including a tornado in Knox, swept through without hitting us. We got a lot of rain, so the rivers are up. We spent some time watching radar in our one windowless interior room, but ultimately decided to go to bed.
Hello, Generation Jones!
Wow, coppertone, a wee bundt for no apparent reason! I reckon that’s a good sign.
Breakfast is ready, gotta go.
Good morning, all! Mrs Magill and I got up on time to walk, but neither of us checked the radar before heading out, so we were caught flat-footed by the rain a few minutes into the walk. One mile, two wet people, and one very wet puppy-dog later, we got back home. At least Chloé got to empty all her tanks.
I had a doctor’s appointment yesterday up in Green Hills, only a mile from Proper Bagel. I now have a bakers’ dozen of Everything and Cinnamon Raisin bagels, so toasted Cinnamon-Raisin bagel and butter for breakfast this morning.
Because Mrs Magill’s parents are here, we only did one yoga class last night, but we all met up afterwards for Ice Cream.
Mrs Magill had gotten a perfume sampler a couple of weeks ago. This morning, while I was having breakfast, she came out of our bedroom and asked my opinion on what she was wearing on her wrist. I sniffed it and said that it was nice, but I did not think it was her. She said, “I agree, but I think it’s you. Would you like it?” I had to excuse myself for a second to find where my jaw had rolled after it hit the floor, and said yes. I think I’m married to the best person.
nellie - I’ve have had plenty of shoe droppage, but not nearly as much as others - thanks to my perceived gender, apparent sexual orientation, and the skin tone. One of my biggest hang-ups about what’s going on with me, is that I feel like I cheated somehow.
I think he knew that unless he helped, I would have remained. Between him and my best friend - a devout Catholic - telling me I needed to get out, I managed to escape a bad situation. I am nervous that her STBX is using the cat to try to get her to stay.
Thank you so much for sharing. No. Really. Thank you. Imagine that being said in the most GenX way possible. Walks away singing, “Mollie-Mollie-Mollie MOL-lie.”
this morning started well. i got to meet the new neighbour pupper. i’ve only heard the pupper through the door. i did met the human once. as soon as the pup heard my voice, she pulled toward me. i was equally happy but restrained. we had a lovely meet up and rain is a very good girl. her human was baffled by her response. i told her i do talk to her when she woofs at me through the door.
it takes some dogs a bit of time to get accustomed living in a multiunit building. rain is close to the lifts so a lot of people go by the door.
so far today i forgot my hat on the way out. i guess the time change horrour is settling down.
Good morning.
It’s 43F and raining. Rain of varying intensities is expected throughout the day, with a daytime high of 51F. Blizzard conditions and winds are expected in the passes, with one to four feet of snow.
Welcome to the MMP, GenerationJones.
Metal Mouse, best of luck with the tradespeople in your home. I hope all is fixed once and for all.
Nellie, I hope the test scoring is much better than anticipated. I’m pleased to read that things like grocery runs have been made easier with your daughter there. I’m sorry she needs to return to the soon-to-be ex because of the cat, and I hope whatever is ailing it can be remedied. Finally, I hope your back is feeling better today.
FCM, we have one of those doggy door things. We got it years ago, and it does make things easier.
So, the eye examination was a bit of a surprise for me. As it turns out, I will also need a consultation for cataract surgery. Mine don’t appear to be as bad, Mr. Taters, but they’re shifting enough that getting a new prescription would be useless since it would be out of alignment in just a few months’ time. My right eye is much worse than the left. Unfortunately, I can’t even get in for a consult until 5 May, but I have been waitlisted for an earlier appointment. Og only knows when I’ll be able to get the surgery, especially since one of the docs is going on maternity leave. So, once again, I can’t really make any extended travel plans now. I’m a little frustrated. Hopefully, something will pop earlier. In the end, it’ll be nice to see clearly and not always feel like my glasses are smudgy, when in fact they are not.
I also received some bad news yesterday. One of the people who worked at the Mount Vernon office passed away in her sleep the night before last. She was at work on Monday and doing fine. When she got home, she said she was tired and went to take a nap. She never woke up. She had some health problems, but I thought she’d turned the corner. My friend T shared the news with me, and later, so did the PIO I used to work with. I’m waiting to hear news about a service and will attend.
I may or may not go out and buy a new phone today. I’m probably going to bite the bullet and get something different from what I want. I can’t wait until fall for the newest flagship for OnePlus to come out, so I’m just going to have to get something different. I think while I’m at it, I’m going to get my husband a new phone, too. He doesn’t need or want anything especially fancy, but he needs a newer phone for the security updates.
Alrighty, I’m just about done with my coffee, so I think I’ll take care of tidying the kitchen. You all take care of yourselves.
