US Capitol under siege

For that, you should consider a long journey to Boston or Chicago.

Thanks, I needed that.

The seemingly inexhaustible font of rage that I’ve been returning to for the last four years seems to have been… exhausted. Ever since this happened, I’m just moping around all weepy-eyed.

No, he was just rushing in because he was late for work…

Annoying joke-ruining nitpick: of course as a state legislator he doesn’t actually work in the national Capitol.

Contrary to ruining the joke, you just made it even funnier.

Yes, but does he know that?

I’m not sullying my browser history with those other sites but Fox has been better than I expected. Their mobile site was mostly anti rioters. Even Hannity. Carlson was still a dipshit.

So no pre-emptive pardons then.

I wouldn’t be so quick to assume this. Pardoning the rioters (or as he’d call them “patriotic protestors”) for crimes committed on 1/6 in the Capitol is probably specific enough to fly.

If “stupid” was a defense, the whole mess of them would go scott free.

That’s what primaries are for.

Hell, I’M hoping he gets removed so he can’t give them Medals of Freedom…

He now equates those with keeping his ass in office.

That’s a good point. The insurrectionists didn’t stop the electoral count. They failed him. They’re losers not worthy of his pardon.

@asahi
The other phrase you might consider rewording is “re-education camps.” Actually, the only problem I have is with “camps.” “Re-education,” to me, is a great way to describe what needs to happen. It’s a word that can mean several things in practice — but it could be anything that effectively undoes the disinformation, the enthrall to conspiracy theories, the anti-science, the cultish devotion to an authoritarian, the susceptibility to junk news, the feelings and fear, the lack of empathy or curiosity.

(Sorry for the hijack — if asahi feels like replying to this, that’s great, and so this diversion will end).

This falls into “You can’t reason a person out of a viewpoint they didn’t reason themselves into.” territory.

Perhaps so. Sad, then. Only death will cure most of them? Maybe. COVID could help speed that along, I suppose. A bunch tried suicide by cop yesterday, but the cops failed to oblige.

I heard one of the cops defending the Capitol died. His death is sad and tragic, as are all the deaths that happened during yesterday’s insurrection. Canada, like many other countries, watched these American events with horror. For almost 250 years, the American constitution has brightened the world. After WW2, other countries looked to the US and tried to emulate its democracy and success. The fruits of democracy and soft power include jaw-jaw instead of conflict, peaceful transition, exapanding rights. Yesterday was an attack on democracy, saying only the mob has the right to dictate terms or proscribe conditions. And those who encouraged them have blood on their hands.

This is truth. These terrorists hate anyone and everyone who is not white, and by extension, they hate anyone who supports and demands justice and equality for everyone who is not white. This is not a secret. All their claims otherwise are a smokescreen.

Yeah, AND they require you to either log in to Twitter or set up an account with them. So kind of useless to some of us.

Not that I really have a need to see someone get killed but not everyone lives on social media.

Guess she found out differently, huh?

The Capitol Police are charged with protecting Congress. When someone like the President or Vice President are in the building/room there will also be Secret Service present. There is some overlap in their responsibilities, but in the Capitol it’s the Capitol Police’s jurisdiction.

Most likely it was CP, but it’s possible it could have been SS from Pence’s detail. Most likely CP, though.
