Valar Hiatus: The Game of Thrones offseason thread

A thousand eyes, and one. Interesting.

Ned reflects on walking into the throne room and seeing Jaime sitting on the throne. It wasn’t a flashback though. I think the only flashback in the first book was the Tower of Joy, but I might be mistaken.

In any case there was one flashback in the entire HBO show and that was Maggy the Frog.

More casting news from Variety, including Samwell’s brother: 'Game of Thrones': Freddie Stroma Playing Dickon Tarly in Season 6 - Variety

Well this thread needs some serious revitalizing!

Ian McShane update:

(Also something in there saying there will be a Stark family flashback that includes the origin of Hodor)

So McShane isn’t anyone important, but they did cast actor Pilou Asbæk as… Euron Greyjoy! And apparently there was a casting call that included the Damphair as well, though I don’t think we know who will play him yet.

They’re filming a “major scene” with 500+ extras in Girona, Spain, which is the location that they will be using to portray Oldtown (although I think this particular scene is actually meant to take place in King’s Landing). Some more information about that scene here says:

Several other casting confirmations include Kevin Eldon, Richard E. Grant as the leader of an acting troupe (which is apparently some sort of mummers’ show mocking the royalty), and Essie Davis (also in the acting troupe).

And yes, Harington is still filming and has been seen not only around Belfast but also, this tidbit popped up:

So if he really is in a “big battle” in or around episode 9, I think it’s rather safe to assume at this point that Jon is, in fact, alive.

Game of Thrones won Emmys for Best Directing, Best Writing, Best Supporting Actor (Peter Dinklage), and… BEST DRAMA!!!

Sweeeeeeet!

The comic Crankshaft had a recent GOT strip. Scroll down to Sept. 27 here: http://old.seattletimes.com/cgi-bin/comics/archive.pl

Looks like Emmys host Andy Samberg is a GOT fan: https://storify.com/LADNMarMendoza/andy-samberg

Not getting the connection to GOT here.

Weirdly an unexpected person has been seen on set.

Someone dead. But not who you might think.

Sure you want to know who?

Look at his password.

Ah-- missed that.

GRRM’s novella The Skin Trade is now up for a series (I’ve read it and it’s not very good IMHO): http://www.vanityfair.com/hollywood/2015/10/game-of-thrones-george-rr-martin-skin-trade-tv-show

…in what way was it necessary?

To show a big part of the source of Cersei’s nuttiness and paranoia.

But we didn’t need a flashback for that.

For all you Khaleesi fans…: http://www.cnn.com/2015/10/13/entertainment/emilia-clarke-esquire-sexiest-woman-feat/index.html

Yeah, the story probably could have been told a different way (maybe Cersei telling one of her handmaids, or Pycelle, or something?), but I think the flashback was fine. This way we didn’t need a “remember that time that witch in the woods told me…” exposition dialogue, and we could just see what actually happened.
