Are you joking? Maggy’s prophecy is central to the plot, central to Cersei’s character, and gets referenced over and over. And it happens many years before all the rest of the events of the series. If you’re implying that they could have simply talked about it instead of showing it, yeah, that’s true. But generally showing > exposition.
No, no he’s not. But that video just confirmed to me that GLLM is completely full of himself. Dude, FINISH YOUR FUCKING STORY! Goddamit, what a great writer! But FINISH YOUR FUCKING STORY!
This is why Tad Williams is my favorite author. The man writes some of the best epic fantasy I’ve ever read, and he is apologetic when his trilogies turn into quartets (quadologies?) BUT HE FINISHES HIS GODDAM STORIES!
Vork!
ETA: I just saw that this video is from 2012. sigh
I feel the same way about Brandon Sanderson.
Really? It shows me he has a sense of humor. It’s a joke appearance at Comic-Con. I’m sure it was the idea of Paul and/or Storm. And it has Neil Gaiman as a bonus.
Did you listen to the song? It specifically acknowledges that he isn’t.
To pass the time until the next book, perhaps you’d like a GOT coloring book: The Official Game of Thrones Coloring Book | Cool Material
As a show watcher first… I didn’t need to know anything about a prophecy to understand the essential elements of her character. I was never flummoxed by her actions in the previous seasons, asking “why is she acting that way?” I accepted her as a damaged and very protective mother constantly scheming to get what’s best for her and her family. I gained nothing but some backstory color from the Maggy the Frog scene.
The flashback wasn’t necessary. Plenty of past important events are only talked about on the show–why was this any different?
Just posting to report that last month I spent a few days in Dubrovnik, Croatia…where the King’s Landing scenes are shot. They’ve made quite the cottage industry out of GoT – a stunning amount of merchandise and tchotchkes are available for purchase. We took a GoT walking tour, which took us to various sites where we could compare stills from the series with the location where it was shot.
I gazed upon Blackwater Bay and walked on the Walk of Shame street.
Very little needs to be changed – a few CGI turrets added here and there, a downspout covered up with ivy.
Cool - lucky you!
Obama has a favorite character… but doesn’t remember his name. Sheesh: http://www.cnn.com/2015/11/17/politics/barack-obama-bill-simmons-gq-interview-trump/index.html
I can’t tell you how many people I’ve heard who said that their favorite character is the person whose given name is “Khaleesi.” :smack:
I remember when I first heard of Dubrovnik. Two decades ago, it was being bombed. Its quite the tourist hot spot now. N Ireland was not doing all that good then either. Main shooting location for GoT. Gives you hope that todays headlines won’t last forever. Maybe last season of GoT will be shot in Damascus.
The length of time GRRM is taking to write the last two books, it probably will have end up there.
Yeah, I’ve noticed that, too. It’s a royal title, not a personal name, people!

Jon Snow featured in next season’s GOT ad (the show will return in April): 'Game of Thrones' poster fuels Jon Snow dead or alive debate
Yeah, perhaps not completely on topic, but not worth a thread of its own:
There was the War of the Five Kings after Robert Baratheon died.
- Joffry Baratheon
- Renley Baratheon
- Stannis Baratheon
- Rob Stark
- … Uh?
Also, the first four are now dead (at least, some official release or other said Stannis was most really dead) how about number 5?
Balon Greyjoy?
Yes, the 5th king is Balon Greyjoy.
Huh. Yeah, I’m sure you’re right officially, but it doesn’t seem like he did anything to make a blatant attempt at being king. The others had armies, fought battles, tried to rally allies… What did Greyjoy do? Sit on his miserable chunk of rock and grump?
Anyway, I guess he isn’t dead yet in the show time line, though if various hints about next year’s plot are true he’ll be kicking it quickly.
So, at the moment, does that mean he "won’?
