I pretty much agree with all of this except I think that when Martin dies the series will be completed by another writer. There’s just too much money to be made from books 6 and 7 no matter how badly the show screws up the ending.
I’ve just been listening to the Order of the green hand youtube theory videos, and the asoiaf fan fiction could be so much better. Basically, not even Jon Snow’s parentage would be the same, and what is shown on the telly is just nothing like the books even in overall arc.
50 odd videos so far, and some are, erm, not even tinfoil, more “you picked that one line from the books and build a two video theory on that?”. However, it does a great job of showing how stupid and evil Catelyn is (basically she sent Ned knowingly to his death, and was pretty much responsible for Robs death and the rest), and Jon Snow’s parentage, and who the enemy is…

And also came up with the only reasonable explanation for Bran’s assassination attempt. I mean reasonable, because while the show says it’s littlefinger, it doesn’t really make sense. Nor Joffrey, per se.
Littlefinger is a powerful greenseer, which started after his weeks long coma after the Brandon duel. He remote wargs into people like Bran with Hodor. The catspaw was his agent, sent to deliver a message to Catelyn, but remote warging into Joffrey provided the catspaw with the dagger, and remote warging into the catspaw did the deed. In which case Littlefinger knows a LOT more than we previously thought
These remind me of a youtuber that had some theories about Coldhands being the real Big Bad of the series. Then, in the show, when the Night’s Watch is at Craster’s, he was completely convinced that Karl was Coldhands in disguise.
I haven’t been involved in a lot of fandoms, but do most of them come up with so many batshit crazy theories?

It’s amazing what they find to fill your time 6 years into a gap into the novels.
But given a decent bunch of the plot points, pick and choose them, get together with a bunch of people who know about Planetos, give overview to a decent writer, and we might get a few decent books at the end, once GRRM pops his clogs leaving behind half a room of scribbles…
Don’t think so. It’s just a combination of losing interest, writing himself into a corner, working on other projects, and being too busy making money.

I put information that I got from a long selection of youtube videos in spoiler tags, not particularly guesses, pretty reasonable deductions if you ignore the TV show.
So it was spoilers for youtube theory videos, not the show or the books. And not guesses, I didn’t make them.
