Hearing from those who played now-dead GOT characters: Highlights from the dead characters’ panel at Con of Thrones - The Verge

Time for a visit to the jokemiester as I was clearly joking.

As was I!

Could Jon Stewart be a GOT nerd?: Join Jon Stewart for His Epic Return to TV

For some reason url is automatically put around the link and you get a Good Things Come To Those Who Give video that I can’t seem to make go away. However, if you highlight everything before the question mark and right click to go to page, you get the article.

I tried cutting and pasting the portion but even the clipped version gets an url around it and send you to the same page. Weird. Or, it could just be me.

It showed up OK again for me just now.

This holiday season, who needs an Elf on the Shelf when you can have a Lannister on the Bannister?: Lannister on the Bannister - YouTube

DVDs/BRs for season 7 were released Dec 12 – I’m glad I don’t have to wait uniul March like I did seasons 1-5 (season 6 was also released earlier than march)

Oh, that’s hilarious! I already have something against the Elf on the EmEffing Shelf and this ad skewered the concept just beautifully. I also appreciate that they’re available ‘North of the Walgreen’s.’ Har!

Well it looks like we’re not getting season 8 until 2019.

Brrrrr! A GOT-themed ice hotel opens in Finland: http://www.cnn.com/travel/article/game-of-thrones-ice-hotel-lapland/index.html

That looks amazing! But I think it needs some more fire with all that ice.

I’ve been rewatching the entire series over the past month or so. It’s an interesting feeling, each time a character is introduced on the show and everything you know about what will happen to them flashes through your mind. Especially the characters that have died. Sort of like having the gift of prophecy, I guess.

Anyway, I’m just up to Episode 1, Season 5, which starts with Cersei and her friend going to see Maggie the Frog, and she’s given three questions.

Cersei says she is betrothed to ‘the prince’ and asks if she will marry him. Maggie says “No, you will marry the king.”

Is she just making the point that Robert will have taken the throne before their marriage, or is there more to it? Was Cersei engaged to a different man entirely before Robert?

My thinking is, Robert was NEVER a prince. He was the Lord of some place – just Dragonstone? or the Stormlands or whatever? But the other Lords of whatever haven’t been referred to as princes*, and this is well before Robert’s Rebellion is launched, right?

  • Except for Doran, but I think that’s because the status of Dorne is different than the other ‘kingdoms’ since they never formally bent the knee?

The only other Prince I recall being mentioned besides Robert’s sons was Prince Rhagar. But Rhagar ended up married to Elia (maybe not at that point in the timeline, not sure of how Elia’s age compared to Cersei’s) and later to Lyanna, of course.

So, if Cersei was betrothed to Rhagar, what happened to break it off?

If not, what other prince was she betrothed to? And what happened to him?

This covers the topic pretty well: http://awoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/Cersei_Lannister#Early_life

It was Rhaegar she was referring to. While Cercei was never engaged to him, Tywin was the king’s closest friend and Hand, so it was sort of assumed that the two of them would eventually marry. In fact, Rhaegar’s later betrothal to Elia of Dorne, at the king’s insistence, was one of the main causes of the estrangement between the two men.

Ah, very helpful! Thank you, Elendil’s Heir and Alessan!

The sad thing is I have season 5 in front of me. Sansa’s rape, Arya’s endless training, and the Dorne road trip.

Also some good stuff, I’m sure, but I can’t call it to mind right now.

Glad to help.

Eighteen actors were replaced on GOT. Some I knew about, some I didn’t: Game Of Thrones: 18 Actors Who Were Replaced

I still mourn for old Daario.

Yes, I preferred him, too. The new guy doesn’t have nearly his quirky charm.

The new guy was basically a completely different character and a redundant one. Old Daario had his own agenda - he was dangerous, he betrayed his former allies. He thought the world of himself. When he tried to change Dany’s mind or change her view of her other advisors, was he trying to do what was in his best interest, or was he trying to manuever himself into being king? He represented a dangerous unknown with interesting ways to take the character. He was a wild card. When he and Jorah conflicted, was it just Jorah’s jealousy, or was he right, was Daario up to something? How would Dany be blinded in her decisions by her desire for the swaggering fuck machine? All sorts of room for draama.

Instead, New Daario was just another wise warrior poet devoted follower. A redundant role, since she already had Jorah and Barriston basically being the same thing to her. So he was basically just Jorah she could fuck. Not interesting at all.

The Daario switcheroo is one of the biggest, most inexplicable mistakes the show has made.
