That’s great news, Lissla. About Mr. L getting the job, I mean, and not you running around doing chores half-nekkid.
Well, that’s great too.

I’m here. I was busy yesterday. The Bosses are out of town and left a butt-load of work for me. Right now I’m busy doing none if it.
The Elf and I tag-teamed the refrigerator this past weekend so our freshly bought groceries would have someplace to live. There didn’t seem to be anything suspicious going on, but there does seem to be an overpopulation problem. It seems that whenever anything moves in it never wants to leave and eventually we have to post an eviction notice. We have 2 year old salad dressing, and we have only lived in this house for a little over a year. Hmmm, could be a terrorist cell, an import from a neighboring refrigerator with ill intentions… Maybe I should do some interrogating.
I had a couple of my neices over last Friday night and I taught them how to do a simple beading project. It was lots of fun, and they really got into it. The next morning they were up and working on their bracelets before I even got out of bed, ane then they each made two more. It made me feel all warm and fuzzy that they liked it so much. I think next payday I’m going to my local bead store and get them some supplies of their own. One niece said it would be a great thing to do at home that they could do together.
Did you know he has a twin??
Anyway, I have apparently been hiding out in my cube too much. I got called into a meeting with two of my bosses where they asked what’s wrong with me 'cause I just haven’t been acting like myself lately… not my normal sunny self or something. It’s good to know they care but it sucks that I’ve been so bummed that everyone noticed. So now I’m working really hard at getting out and acting all chipper. So I may be around less… have to talk to “real” people more and spend less time here!
Hangs head in shame and embarrassment…I’m sorry. I didn’t see it. I saw your post about “patience grasshopper” and then, well the weekend came and I missed this post. My internet at home is rather screwed up so getting to the straight dope is hit or miss at home. It’s most annoying. I can’t figure out why I can’t get to sites that I used to get to all the time. It’s something I need to fix.
Thanks, I did read your post. I may email you for more specifics. I appreciate your time.
Shoooo… I’m back now. Maybe I’ll be able to stay caught up. Maybe not.
What am I back from? Well. Saturday we were going to be having Soupo’s family birthday party. Only it rained and snowed and iced and it would have been dangerous to have people drive over for it. So we moved it to Sunday. (You’d think if it was that bad Saturday, it would still be sketchy come Sunday. Nope. It all melted overnight.) That meant we were snowed in on Saturday and Sunday was hogged up by the party. So we didn’t get our weekend errands ran. Until Monday. Yesterday. Either one.
And today is the first of the month (heartworm day!) so I checked the furnace filter. It needed to be changed. Only we were out of them. So I had to go to the hardware store this morning to get new furnace filters so I could change out the grungy furnace filter for one that would actually let air through and then the house can get heated up.
So other than the pile of laundry I’m ignoring, I’m all caught up.
Speaking of food (which is always a safe segué) at the birthday party the Little Woman was heating up these flat, round pieces of bread so we could have our sandwiches on those instead of buns or regular bread. (It was chicken salad actually. But it wasn’t bad. Yet.) Dad asks “What are those things you’re cooking?” Tortillas. They were tortillas. My dad had no idea what they were. But being the brave soul he is (ha!) he tried them. It didn’t kill him, the trying of new food. I think it was the first new food he’s tried (knowingly) in roughly the last… forever.
In other food news: Tomorrow is Groundhog Day. Eat sausage. (This joke does not get explained. If you don’t “get” it, then deal.)
I’m making a meatloaf for tomorrow. Tonight I get to eat out. ACBG is buying. That’s always a good deal. Anyways, since tomorrow is Ground Hog day, I’m putting sausage in the meatloaf. Not that that’s unusual. I always put 2 pounds of ground beef and one pound of ground hog (medium hot) in my meatloaf. It’s good that way. I’m also gonna make homemade mac & cheese and cornbread. And steam some broccoli. I likes my steamer. It steams veggies real good. I may steam some carrots too since they go good with meatloaf, mac & cheese and broccoli.
So, Rue I’m havin’ my Ground Hog tomorrow. I didn’t forget!
But what about the dragons? Won’t somebody think of the dragons?
Unfortunately, that’s all I’ve got.
Ok, so it’s not PC, but sometimes a girl appreciates a little appreciation.
Well, that didn’t work. That was supposed to quote Shibb, like this:
See, it makes more sense that way.
:: also whistles at Lissla ::
I always picture you in that, or something suitable for belly-dancing.
What a lucky stiff! Hottie for a wife, extra-husbands to do all of the dirty work, and gainfully employed!
I just bid on a job doing consulting for ginormous amounts of moolah, but it would involve travel time away from the family. Did I mention the money is extremely good and we really need the money right now? So you all keep the virtual fingers crossed for me. I expect you all to do as good a job as you did for Mr. Lissar.
Wow, quick reply is cool. Thanks, Ex.
I had a protein shake and a cup of decaf coffee this morning. The shake isn’t as bad as it sounds, as I make mine with skim milk, chocolate flavoured protein mix, and frozen mixed fruits and berries. The coffee is decaf only for 3 more days, as I will finally be off this stupid detox. Do you have any idea how hard it is to not drink alchohol, caffeine, smoke, or do anything at all whilst still attempting to maintain a social life? It ain’t easy, I tell ya. I have new respect for recovering alchoholics, that’s for sure. Just trying to find something to drink in a bar that hasn’t got alchohol or caffeine in it is damn tricky. Forget about your friends (and bloody girlfriend) suggesting it would be ok to fall off just once.
Well, I did fall off. Just once, last weekend, for one cocktail. But it’s still gonna fell damn good to fall off this silly little wagon I put myself on. Friday night will probably end messy, but what the hell, I’m worth it.
Wow, snazzy, I’m using quick reply too.
Congrats on **Mr. Lissar’s ** getting the job and my fingers are crossed for **Shibb
**.
I’m making ginormous chicken breasts for dinner tonight. The hubby is a breast man. Sunday I made a lovely slow cooked in the slow cooker pot roast with taters, onions, and carrots. I didn’t have any “winter” veggies like parsnips so I didn’t put any in. I did use red wine though. It was very good.
I’m thinkin’ meatloaf for tomorrow night. All this talk about meatloaf has gotten me to thinking that I haven’t made one in a while. This weekend we’ll be going out to our favorite Cajun restaurant.
Breakfast for me consisted of one grande sized (16 oz) Americano with four shots of espresso, no room. I like the taste coffee, what can I say?
Lunch will probably be a salad with a rapsberry vinagrette dressing.
I’ve been thinking about doing a pot roast in the slow cooker, but I’ve never done that before. How much liquid does it need for ~1 1/2 lb of meat and the assorted veggies that would go with it? Do you use all red wine or some water with it or something else? Thanks!
A Shorley Temple. If it makes you feel any better, you could get an extra cherry.
Or ginger ale.
Or a shandy, hold the beer.
See how easy this is?
Lissla, if you had said * You can all picture me in a short shirt and low-cut top if you want, though. She revealed* that would have qualified as a Tom Swifty, a particularly cleaver, or onerous, type of pun, depending on your point of view.
Good on Mr. Lissar, BTW. Security types in Canada don’t get to carry guns do they? I saw a movie once with that guy from MASH, the movie not the series, (he was** in** the movie, we didn’t go to the movie together) about a murder in Toronto, and I remember thinking “Canadians don’t do murder do they? They’re too nice.” * It was a messy murder too, no guns to make nice neat holes in people.
gotta go make soap now. * sneaks an admiring glance at ** Mutey*'s legs and wanders back out of thread.
Swampy, KittyKate1984’s thread about ‘Are You Going to Hell?’ went poof before I could reply that several of us MMPers have pretty much established that for ourselves…
For those who don’t know what I’m babbling about, we had a drive-by witnessing in MPSIMS today.
Great, now try it as someone addicted to caffeine and nicotine who is trying to quit both at the same time!
I kid, I kid…
Seriously, the bars in England are not as easy as the ones in the states. I finally found one that did ‘virgin’ cocktails, and they were the same price as the alchoholic ones!
So, it’s almost 10:30 and I’ve been so productive that I’ve crossed one whole thing off my to-do list. I may add something to the to-do list that I just did, just so I can cross it off and feel more productive. See, I walked around and chatted with folks about whether or not they wanted to be nominated for Chief Steward or the Labor/Management Committee, 'cuz I didlike nominating people who are unwilling. So it was productive, but not specifically work productive, other than by having a Chief Steward and a good LMC the workplace will be a better place so it will be easier to be more productive.
On the home front, my kitty’s cold seems better. Kali is no longer sneezing or wiping a drippy nose off on my arm, and she ate dry cat food this morning, albeit with a look of regret (I’d given her tuna when her nose was plugged up). She has also taught me that when she feels that the kitty litter should be completely changed she’ll be a lady enough to continue to use the box, but she’ll stop burying her little treasures. An acceptable system.
I roasted an eye of the round roast this weekend and made really good gravy (I always make good gravy, but this was just a smiggen better than average). Plus I cooked some chicken breasts in my crock pot with some “cream of” soup and white wine. the chicken is fine, but I may experiment with different “cream of” soups to get a better flavor for the sauce.
And finally, I want St. Valentine’s Say to be over so that the stores will have room for the Easter candy. I want Hershey’s Candy-Coated Eggs. Not Cadbury. Hershey’s! And I want them NOW!
That’s dislike and Day.
Yeah, I did manage to catch that before it ascended to where ever those things go.
Does anyone else get the feeling that we’re under attack lately? I see a lot of Guests opening a half-dozen or so threads, then not coming back to respond.
I used a crock pot/slow cooker for years. I used just the tiniest bit of liquid at first, and then just let everything cook for 8 - 10 hours. There’s no need to put gallons in there at first - nothing is going to boil away because you aren’t going to keep opening the lid to check on how things are cooking. Right?
