Voluntary MMP - the noob part 2

$25,000 grand, not including books…for a state school. I know that’s inexpensive compared to other schools, but that ain’t chump change. In addition, they’re raising the tuition and fees ANOTHER 16% for fall 2012/2013.

Buying the books brand new would have added considerably to the cost.

That sounds really good.

Sorry about your grandma, Spaz. But glad she was spirited right up until the end.

I vote we go to taxi’s for dinner, then stop by janis’s for cake!

Glad everyone agrees on the crock thing. I have a good mechanic, but LBF has always had her cars serviced at the dealer. (They’ve been good in the past, but - obviously - are going downhill.) She and hubby were going to find someone up the food chain to complain to.

I felt the earthquake too. It was really amusing because it felt like my chair had suddenly become a massage chair. Had a split second where I wondered how they’d snuck a motor in there.

Oh, that sounds heartbreaking, lieu. I hate it when I see trees cut down. And the broken water mains sound scary too.

Guess I should consider falling asleep sometime soon. It’s definitely after my bedtime already.

Hugs all.

GT

She’s volunteering for yodeling school.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffienatin’ YAWN 'Tis 75 Amurrkin out with a predicted high of 95. A cool down!

Sis said they felt the quake a little bit up in ye olde hometowne. A few years back one shook her out of bed. I’ve never been in an earthquake myself. I trust everyone’s ok. I’m a little sad about the damage to the National Cathedral. Such a beautiful cathedral!

Ok, now I go in search of more caffiene and some brekkie. Then, alas, irk purtification must commence.

Happy Hump Day Y’all!

Good morning all! I’m planning on an easy day today. I’ll be running some errands, including to get some yarn to finish an afghan. Not sure how to time it, tho, since school starts in our county today - I would rather not deal with the buses - maybe if I wait till 9 to leave…

Taters, is $25K the tuition, or does that also include room and board? Much as I hated FL, in-state tuition for the state schools was very reasonable - I think my daughter’s was around $1300 per semester from 2004-2008. Books are obscenely expensive, and I hate how profs require the latest edition of the books they write, so used books, with minimal changes, aren’t good enough. Heck, the one class I’m taking at the junior college is over $460 for 3 credit hours. That would make a full load at a junior college here over $2300 for a 15-credit semester - remember when junior colleges were cheap? Oh wait - I guess it is… In-state tuition at U of MD is $290 per credit hour for part-time students or over $8800/year for full time (including fees.)

And that’s just undergrad. I hate to think what it’ll cost my daughter to get her masters… That tuition is $525/credit hour.

It’s cheaper to stay stupid…

Predictions on aftershocks are unclear - will we or won’t we? At least this time, I’ll know. **FCD **was pissed off - he was walking across the parking lot when it happened, and he didn’t feel anything! That’s OK, I felt enough for both of us.

Happy Wednesday!!

Up, caffeinated, off to irk. No humping, but there might be trivia tonight.

Taters, ouch.

Afternoon, mumpers! I had a fantastic long weekend at the Beautiful Days festival down in Devon but I was glad to get home and have a long soak in a hot bath. The tent survived the experience but I think we’ll be getting a new one before we do any more camping as this one’s not as good as it used to be.

So now I am at irk but not as irked as usual. That could well be because I’ve emailed HR and told them I want the severance deal. That means I will leave this job on 30th September with a nice chunk of cash in the bank. I don’t have a job to go to, but at the moment I’m not hugely bothered, I’m just so relieved to be leaving here before the ship sinks completely. The iceberg is getting closer and the lifeboats have almost disappeared…pass the G&T!

Hope everyone has survived the weather but please don’t tell me I missed the cake?

Sorry about your grandma, Spaz, but thank goodness you visited the day before. The same thing happened to me years back and I’ll be eternally grateful for that last opportunity to spend time with her.

Dangit, why do I have to miss all the good earthquakes? I’ve only felt minor tremors and as a geologist that just doesn’t sit well with me. One hit our place in Colorado yesterday too, awakening a friend as he slept. Can only assume I’m being punished because I mentioned… you know… cake.

loo I’ve had some raptuous cake in my life but I don’t recall any of it shakin’ the earth. MMMMMMMMMM… cake! I want cake! I am reminded of this Hyperbole and A Half blog. Now that, folks, is cake desire!

**BooFae **- won’t you get a going-away-party cake? But I expect you can’t wait that long. Sorry, I have no cake here, but I will be scalding, skinning, slicing, and freezing peaches this afternoon… And there’s the chicken stock I need to skim and transform into chicken soup.

You don’t have a job lined up, but have you started looking? Will this be a chance to change what you do? Yeah, I’m being nosy - you gotta problem with that??

{{{Spaz}}}

Good morning! (Afternoon, BooFae!) I slept until 6:45 am! Yay! Today’s appointments include a bone density test at 9:00, and picking up Dad’s new ear mold for his hearing aid at 2:30. Not too stressful.

But I also have to get in contact with my insurance agent, because my windshield has been pockmarked all over by following a cement mixer. I got sprayed with what I thought was sand, but I have a million little stars all over my windshield. I’ve been told that there is no deductible for windshield repair. We shall see.

Have a great day, guys!

Hugs and smooches!

Upside-down cake!

Dolores, I used to drive the Haul Road up to Prudhoe years ago before it was opened to the public. It was kinda funny because every vehicle you see up there has a destroyed windshield. The road is all gravel, what they removed from river beds and old deposits. I don’t know what it is about that gravel but man can it bounce. You don’t follow another vehicle within a hundred yards or pass another on the narrow two-lane at more than 5 miles an hour or you’ll get sprayed with it. Of course they’re all company vehicles so nobody cares and most every one you see looks like it was shot with a 12 ga. Any that aren’t just got so bad they were recently replaced.

Did you know that every road, drilling pad, anything built up there with the gravel will be stripped clean and returned to the river deposits and quarries once Prudhoe Bay has been depleted and shut down? It’s already budgeted. Every building, pipeline, anything made by man will be trucked or shipped back. It’ll all be returned to it’s native state, or as close to it as possible, when the oil eventually runs out. Kinda cool really and one heck of an undertaking.

Not even a Better Than Sex cake?

Cake after sex is even better!

Huuumm, looks like I’m gonna have to make some more cake. I love Better than Sex cake too, I gotta quit talking about cake now, it’s makin’ me fat!! LOL

Off to do errends with Ma & Papa Bear. It’s payday.
Also my girly problem seems to be letting up & may stop w/o intervention Yay!

Happy Hump day, y’all!

FCM, that 25K is for tuition, fees, room and board. Those fees do not include getting the student package for attending games. That’s another $120.

Also, there are three levels to the meal card, and my son took the most expensive, but I still fear he’ll run out of money on it.

My son told me things are very expensive there. Not surprising, it’s a college town and they’re going to get every last dime out of those kids and their parents.
On the other hand, it’s in the damn middle of the Palouse! It’s farm country! Miles and miles and miles of wheat and cows.

Well, I better hop to the many projects I’ve got on my plate. As usual, so much to do, so little time.

Fast one.

Thursdays zombie event at Dorney Park was great! Anyone around Flikr do a search on “dorney zombie” ----- I’m the Amish one. And the wife made the video on YouTube of the record run on Steel Force. Right about 3:06 in the front seat and the next to last car.

Felt the quake here in Pgh and a few houses around us even lost bricks.

OK ------- I know I am going to regret this but ----------

For when you want to have your cake and eat it too???
