I was far happier, though, about the fact that { various stuff happened } with the end result being that Inappropriate Crushy-Poo and I were ALL ALONE together for, like, an hour.
Did we run the entire f’ing restaurant together like a well-oiled team duo?
Hellz, yeah.
Did I have deeply inappropriate thoughts the whole time?
HELLZ, YEAH.
(Except when I was counting change. I don’t have that many brain cells, math requires my full bandwidth, and I pride myself on running a clean register, with all bills perfectly faced to facilitate countdown at closing.)
Ah, and the best part? As I was leaving, ( “Need anything else from me? Otherwise, I’m outta here.” ) why yes, he did want one more last thing from me.
A hit off my pen. (Vape.)
1a.) I was thrilled to do him a favor.
2b.) You betcher butt I promptly hit that thing as soon as I was out the door. { sigh } Still faintly warm from his lips.
metal mouse, our Steak - N - Shake was closed for lack of help the last two times that I had a gnawin’ and a cravin’. Even at the best of times, it was never a very busy one.
Mooooooom, for cheese sauce, skip the velveeta (waaaaaaaaay too salty). Adding shredded cheese to a white sauce is good for topping broccoli or other veggies. I’m with you on the sweet taters. I tend to go baked or making hashbrowns with them.
When I took Nelson out this afternoon, all of his little neighbor girlfriends were out, so a good time was had all around. I also met our new maintenance guy and he said that he’d been over a couple of days ago and knocked, but no one was home, so he left. I told him that I would be home tomorrow, so he’s supposed to come to get started on several of the five work orders that I have in. I’ll believe it when I see him.
Howdy Y’all! I felt a little feverish, so I took some Tylenol and took to the recliner. I had OYKW fetch me ginger ale. I was a delicate flower and needed to be attended upon. Then I got better. Sup was cooked and et after that. Thus was the day.
MOOOOOOM I agree with red about the white sauce. Add some shredded cheese and ya got cheese sauce. A very good cheese sauce, I might add.
Are people just losing their damn minds lately? It takes some special stupid to decide that attempting to drown a cop is preferable to a traffic stop. Maybe I’m just morbid today, but I’m wondering what they’re going to find at this nutjob’s home. Corpse(s)?
Hmm. That’s a thought. The bus would take 3.5 days to get there. Could I go 4 days without a shower? Three nights sleeping in a bus seat? It’d be a lot cheaper–about $400 instead of $700. I’m going to have to mull this over. I think if I opted for a bus, my siblings would figure out why and would insist on chipping in, which I’d rather not have. Still, mind open, Nellie!
I checked trains. Amtrak says that’s a big nope.
swampy, glad you’re feeling better. Glad OYKW gave you some TLC.
Yes. Yes, they are. Of course, I’m going by the news and by the number of people who’ve almost hit me as I was walking. It happened again yesterday. I was walking across the same entrance to the same parking lot where I was almost hit the other day, and some anus blared his horn and barreled through from the parking lot across the busy road.
Angry driver trying to kill a cop, angry drivers trying to kill pedestrians, angry airline passengers lashing out at flight attendants. Am I seeing a pattern here?
That’s true. We’ve had enough rain, thankyouverymuch. I was listening to KNKX on the way home. It took so long, I got into Evening Jazz. The DJ said he’d just moved to Washington, and we’d received 25% of our annual rainfall in a week. I hadn’t though of it that way. What did we get up here? Seven inches?
The drive home was hellish. I left the orifice about 15:20. It was raining hard in Burien and Seattle. It was starting to get dark. Traffic was slow. When I finally got to where the landslide was (around mile marker 246) traffic stopped. There was a sign that said ROLLING SLOWDOWN EXPECT DELAYS, but dayum! I think I was stopped for about five minutes. This, after creeping along at 10 mph or less for miles. Long story short: I didn’t get home until 19:10. Three hours and 50 minutes to go 122 miles.
Hey, who suggested Christmas lights to make the babushka cart safer? Thank you! It’s now the Santa Cart. NOBODY would risk hitting the Santa Cart, right?
Up, caffinated, and sheveled. Off to double heave.
My hockey convention group discovered Chester’s Cheese puffs in Savannah. We literally ate every bag in the city.
And do the wine thing, you deserve a break.
Speaking as someone who has 20+ years of retail management experience. NO. DO NOT.
Welcome to the South. We wash that down with sweet tea.
Festive! Put them in blink mode if they have it. Humans cue on changing patterns.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 52 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of
< snerk > 69! < snerk > and N.O.S. for the day. This mornin’ I shall deal with some church janitor JW and other stuff over to the church house. I am within two months of givin’ all that up. HUZZAH! Sup shall be chikin 'n rice, green beans, and baked sweet N.O.T. YUM!
Nellie babushka cart is festive! If that doesn’t work, I say the next step is to weaponize.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, alas and bother, I shall purtify and don appropriate bein’ amongst the public attire. Oh woe and despair!
That’d have to be some poopy-headed grinch to hit such a festive cart!!!
Incidentally, regarding your trip, is there an option of a cheap flight close by where you can catch a bus the rest of the way? Then it won’t be 3.5 days or a gazillion dollars, perhaps? If I win the lottery before then, I’ll just charter a private jet for you. (Note to self: buy lottery ticket.)
shoe - back in the olden days when I was still working for the Navy, the command did yet another reorganization and my boss was a pilot (can’t recall what he flew, but it was carrier-based…) Anyway, we had the requisite getting-to-know-the-peons meeting, during which he asked me if I wanted to be on the technical track or the management track. I told him I wanted to stay technical. He proceeded to tell me why I was wrong! By that time, I’d been around the Navy and that specific command long enough that I knew to just smile and nod, then go back to work. Sure enough, 6 months later, there was another reorg. And I finally got a boss (civilian) who believed me and let me stay technical. And I lived happily ever after. The end.
It’s 37° this morning, and tonight’s low is forecast to be in the 20s. Yesterday, I had windows open!! And that’s my daily weather complaint.
As we were driving to supper last night, my car guy called to say my car was ready. I told him we’d be by in the morning, which is this morning. We’ll stop there and pay, and leave the car parked till we come home. Then we’ll swing thru the credit union and deposit FCD’s next-to-the-last consulting check, before heading across the Bay Bridge to Oxford, MD. No plans beyond getting back before rush hours, so we’ll have to leave there between 2 and 3 at the latest.
And today, I’ll pull the turkey bird out of the freezer and pop it in the fridge to begin thawing. My plan is to roast it on Weds, and take a platter of carved bird to be warmed up on Thurs. SIL has to work till 4 that day - we’ll be nice and wait instead of having our usual 1PM dinner. Apparently his family never did a big sit-down Thanksgiving - they just put out food and graze all day. The very idea!!!
Glad you’re feeling better swampy. You got a keeper in OYKW.
Love the babushka cart nellie!
Up, caffeinating, a load of towels and throw rugs ready for the dryer and a load of jeans on deck. After KP, I’ll put the new vacuum together and do the Friday chores. Such is the life.
It was 27F when I took Nelson out this morning (it took longer to suit both of us up than we spent outside). This, after waking up to 65F yesterday. Ma Nature needs to up her meds.
I start my GBC with finely diced carrots, celery and shallots sautèd in a bit of olive oil and butter. I add in sliced portobello mushrooms and cook them down. More butter and flower to make a roux, then add whole milk and bring to a boil. Add some chicken stock and stir to desired thickness. Season to taste with celery seed , salt and pepper and then pour over fresh green beans. Rather than the cardboard onions in a can, I thinly slice shallots, lightly bread and fry them for the garnish. about half an hour before serving dinner I sprinkle a bit of shredded sharp cheddar over the top and toss it in the oven until serving temp.
We are waiting for a call from the appliance store. My dishwasher died after years of meritorious service and will be given a hero’s funeral this morning as the replacement is installed…
It’s around 40 degrees and raining here. I think the expected high is about 47 but the rain is supposed to stop around 9:00 or 10:00. After that, it’s just cloudy skies. We’ll see if that happens. I’d like to get out and about, but I really don’t want to be dashing to and from the Jeep in the rain while erranding.
Congrats on the management offer, shoe! Probably very smart to turn it down.
Love your cart, nellie!
Enjoy your drive, FCM!
I don’t have much planned for today; some laundry and erranding. Tomorrow, my day is pretty much sucked by the celebration of life service, especially since it’s a bit of a drive from here to Bremerton. Lord give me the strength to hang on to my patience with my mother. She’s full of “you shoulds” and is very nosy. Even worse, she won’t drop the conversation even when asked to. Finally, tone or rudeness has to enter the conversation, which I just hate. I already know she’s going to give me all kinds of grief because my husband isn’t going. He doesn’t want to, and I’m not making him. He would be miserable and make the rest of us miserable. Easier to just deal without all of that too.
I am not a fan of green bean casserole (with the gloppy cream of mushroom soup), nor am I a fan of the sweet potato or yam casserole with marshmallows. I do like the white sweet potatoes baked, though. I used to make a sweet potato casserole that had grated orange rind, juice, eggs, some spices, and roasted pecans on top. I can’t remember all the ingredients, but it was always a big hit. I made it in order to get AWAY from the marshmallow abomination.
Well, onward to cruising real estate sites for homes/property. God knows when I’ll find the right one.
I still haven’t had time to read my fiend’s story in Cosmic Horror Monthly. The chalk drawing of Lovecraft on the first story is one I recognise he did in the late-'80s/early-'90s. I thought the cover looked like his work, but it’s not. Can’t find a good pic of the cover except for FB and eBay.
I love the babushka cart, nellie! Amazing. I think you get the Golden Cannoli!
It’s bright and cold here in MO today (at least in my part). Overlygirl had surprisingly few side effects from the vaccine and was able to play last night. They lost, which was a bummer, but that also means we’ve got time after breakfast tomorrow to do stuff.
So far I have in my overnight bag: wine, a corkscrew, an insulated wine cup. My knitting will soon join them, along with a book and maybe my shoes & clothes for the gym. My phone stays in my bag tonight because time just slips away so fast when I scroll, and one of the many things I miss from when I was a kid is that feeling that time is just stretching away endlessly. Everything feels so compressed now.
Anyway, off to earn my night. Lots of meetings today, and the day will end with me having to put my manager hat on. I’m pretty sure that about 80% of my job is course correcting or getting yelled at. But at least I get yelled at in a semi-professional way, so there’s always a silver lining.
Morning all. There was frost on the grass this morning when I went out to retrieve the newspaper, first time this season, so I guess the cold weather (at least cold for N. Ali-bama) is here to stay. Need to mail a bill and get some cash from the bank, but nothing much else is on the agenda.
nellie, nice looking cart, hope it helps. And 3 days on a bus…that’s a lot of time and effort and adding in meals probably makes the cost somewhat comparable to air. Have you tried sites like Kayak or Cheapoair? They sometimes have deals, but with odd connections and non-refundable fares, so YMMV.
shoe, enjoying your fantasy life/crush.
talkie, enjoy the break.
flyboy, sounds like it’s still a nightmare out there for drivers. Y’all be careful.
hippie, glad the dishwasher did it’s job long and well, and may the new one prove just as durable.
FCM, hope the travels go well today.
OK, need to get barely presentable (not getting out of the car) and do the outside stops and then onward into the day. Everyone have a great Firday.
