Weirdest Potato Chip Flavour

Pinderine, back again…

Technically, it won’t be the first time some All Dressed chips have come stateside. FritoLay debuted Ruffles All Dressed chips back in 2015, then later discontinued them in 2021.

I had the Ruffles All Dressed chips when they were available here in the late '10s. I did really like them and I’m glad the flavor’s coming back. Although part of me is worried they’re going to treat them like the McRib and just bring them back for a limited time every once in a while.

All Dressed are available, and quite popular, in Canada.

Yeah. And I wouldn’t consider them weird at all.

There were, for about 10 minutes, once a Lay’s special flavor cafe latte flavor potato chip. Like if you spilled a cup of coffee over your bowl of chips and in a thrifty move, dried them out on a pan in the oven.

Ketchup-flavored potato chips are a popular snack in Canada, usually seasoned with another Canadian condiment, ketchup salt.

I’ve tried them, and because I don’t like ketchup, nope, not a fan of those either.

I’ve seen bacon salt, not for a while, but… where in Canada have you seen this?

All Dressed Canadian chips taste like ketchup was drowning it’s sorrows in Worcester sauce with a side of onion and garlic. It’s not horrible, but I don’t get the love. I suspect it was used on Letterkenny so much as some kind of inside Canadian identity joke.

I have eaten many snack bags in Asia ominously flavored ‘seafood’ and every single one has tasted different. They all were salty, but vastly ranged in smell and flavor.

I’m not Canadian, but I do have a friend who is, and she had some at a meetup.

On a related note, I recently saw a little package of Harissa-flavored cream cheese, short-dated and marked down to 99 cents, and since I’d never tasted Harissa, purchased it. It was basically a homeopathic level of spice, although it was good cream cheese.

Mix harissa with mayonnaise and try it with fries. Pretty good. Any middle eastern grocer will sell small tubes of paste or cans fir a couple bucks.

Bumping again because my boss handed me a bag of Vlasic Pickle Balls. They are green, round, made of corn, and taste of strong dill pickle. I’d rather have the pickle, to be honest, but these are tasty.

Not sure how available they but now there are beer-flavored Pringles.

I’ve only found the chicken and bratwurst ones; bought one of each to try. Still working through the chicken can; can definitely taste the beer, not sure about the chicken. Not bad, as Pringles go, but I don’t expect to buy more.

Brat can is next.

Yeah, I saw these at Meijers.
What will they come up with next?

I like the sharp taste of Worcestershire sauce but since I don’t do very much cooking from scratch these days, just about the only thing I use it for is making Caesars, where it adds an essential depth to the drink. Those who dislike the sometimes “fishy” taste of some clamato mixes ought to try adding Worcestershire. But it’s powerful stuff and you have to be careful not to overdo it.

In general I dislike just about all flavoured potato chips except for the occasional bag of Lay’s Barbecue chips. They’ve hit on a pretty good flavour formula; artificial though it may be, it really is reminiscent of BBQ smokiness. But most of the time my standard go-to is Lay’s “lightly salted” regular chips, which have an appealing delicate flavour.

A year or two ago, Aldi’s had “Journey to Greece” Rosemary and Feta Kettle chips. They also had Tzatziki Kettle chips. Bought one each, brought them to work. General consensus was pretty meh.

Aldi also has Deutsche Küche Peanut Puffs.

Waiting for licorice-flavoured chips. Not the red crap.

I like the bratwurst better than the chicken; both flavors are just about equally present. This can will go much quicker than the chicken did.

Never had those Pringles, but I loved these:

Ketchup chips? They’re a standard, you can get them anywhere. If a grocery or convenience store doesn’t have them, it will only be because they ran out. Walmart even has a Great Value version which is pretty decent for the low price per bag.

Apologies if the link comes out weird, I guess Walmart does not approve of hotlinks.

Lay’s chicken & waffle chips. One of the winners of those suggest-a-new-flavour contests a few years back.
