Yep! I think that most episodes are taking place only one or two days after the previous one. Although it seems that last week, Shannon said something about Boone hanging out in the woods with Locke for the last 4 days (indicating 4 days since the previous ep), but in last night’s, I recall a comment in a Locke/Boone conversation that they had been out there working on the metal thing for the last 2 days. Not sure which it’s supposed to be.
I thought Boone said they’d been staring at it for two days. It’s possible that dug up as much as they could and then tried to open the hatch on the first two days and just stared at it for the next two.
Of course, if there’s no TCM, then I guess the pilot maybe just leaped out of the cockpit into the trees and killed himself while he was up there…
I’ve actually thought about that. Was the pilot actually killed by TCM? I don’t recall hearing typical TCM sounds (ie, that metalic, grating sound) when the pilot was snatched. Did you? It sounded more like a bear, or maybe a giant bear. And remember that the hobbit said the polar bear was like a bady version of what killed the pilot?
BTW, I rewatched last night’s episode and single framed through the part where Boone and Shannon first encounter TCM. What you see is two trees being uprooted, as if they were pulled from the top. Not at all like two trees being knocked over. This coincides with how I saw the firstappearance of TCM in front of the group, when everyone was on the beach-- the trees aren’t being knocked over, they’re being pulled up or sucked into the ground.
I think he said “no, that’s the teeeny tiny version”.
Yep – something killed the pilot, although I agree that TCM might not be real. But something killed the pilot, and I still want to know what!
Monstre: Absolutely! But TCM has a very distinct, trademark sound-- metalic. I can’t be 100% certain, but I just don’t remember hearing that from whatever it was that snatched the pilot. And again, we have have Rousseau’s claim that 'there’s no such thing as monsters".
In one of the earlier eps, I saw a background person shaving.
Maybe they’re rationing out the razors and soap and stuff. Would explain why we always see tham half shaven, half clean…
I don’t see what’s unreasonable at all about being shaved - I’m guessing half the suitcases or more had razors, and one person can use a razor on an infrequent basis for… well, over a year, probably. Gets a bit rough at the end, but there’s no trouble believing they have enough razors to go around now.
Of course Rousseau probably drinks paint thinner straight from the can, so you have to take what she says with a grain, or perhaps a shaker, of salt…
Not directly related to this episode, but Kate fans might be interested to learn that Evangeline Lilly is apparently looking for a date.
I got this far thinking I’d be the first one to mention this. Just about fell off the couch when I heard it.
Regarding shaving, Jack has had exactly the same hair length (face and head) for the entire show, even in flashbacks. How he keeps the stubble the same length, I have no idea. That, and the hygiene issue, seem to fall under the magic of television.
What if…there WAS NO PILOT? What if the pilot was another of the Island’s visions, telling them something they needed to hear?
What the hell is a Rambaldi device/lab?
Rambaldi is a frequent reference in JJ Abram’s / Bad Robot’s other show, Alias.
He’s basically a cross between Nostradamus and Leonardo da Vinci.
Manya Alias shows center around finding artifacts that Rambaldi made (in the 1500 or 100s). Some of these devices are more advanced than modern gear. There is a picture that looks like Syndey Bristow in R’s journal along with warnings. (will destory the world type stuff).
Syndey Bristow ==> Sydney, Austrialia coincidence??
Brian
This is a reference to Alias, a show created by the same folks who created Lost.
In Alias, the bad guy spent many years collecting pieces of a device created by a guy named Rambaldi. Rambaldi was kind of a contemporary of Leonardo Da Vinci who created some “device” that had modern uses as a weapon, although when I stopped watching it, it was never clear exactly what the weapon or use would be.
It’s a joke about the plot of Alias. Like the way IRL life news says Leonardo DaVinci’s secret batcave was just found – on Alias they refer to a DaVinci contemporary guy name Rambaldi, only he was so brilliant that he came up with a “device” that does “something” and is beyond our understanding and technology today in modern times.
So they’re just jokin’ that the Lost cast found the Rambaldi lab/device.
nyuck, nycuk
Oo-oo-oo!
And Rousseau and Rambaldi both start with the letter ‘R’…!

I also stopped watching Alias around the Rambaldi stuff. Is this common? Have the ratings been really hurting? And why am I hijacking the Lost thread?
Braaaaaaiiiiins! That’s better.
OK… I avoid Alias, so it’s natural that I didn’t get that one.
If Sawyer were to discover this, he could become the island’s resident drug pimp! “Hey, Charlie, try this for your headache.”
What made me believe that Boone was having a dream was that it didn’t fit Locke’s character. I see him as some sort of shaman – quirky, mysterious and sagacious, but not evil. And it would take an evil person to tie up an asthmatic girl and leave her in the jungle along with TCMs, polar bears, and wild boars just so that her brother could have an epiphany.
Re the comment that Shannon’s body looked a lot like the pilot’s had looked even though Boone hadn’t seen the pilot: Actually I thought they looked different. IIRC, The pilot looked like the upper half of his body had had the skin peeled off of it, almost like a burn. I didn’t save that particular episode, though, so I can’t verify.
You know what made me go “Hmmm…”? The pilot also wasn’t eaten. Sure some predators bury stuff or stick in in trees so they can snack later, but first they snack on their prey quite a bit.
Looks at above posts
Okay, IF there was a pilot, and IF the pilot was killed by the TCM, and IF the TCM actually exists… then it’s killing for the sake of killing. Unusual for most animal species.
Or else it’s protecting something.
